This is an ok spot to camp. We ended up not staying here because there were really deep ruts and it was supposed to rain. But there is a really cool lava tunnel you can explore. It goes about 2 miles
Stayed here on our way to Yellowstone during the eclipse madness. Its right on the edge of BLM land and was a great spot to camp for the night. No facilities.Check out the large lava tube on site. It runs for about a mile before you run into a pool of water. I read it is (or used to be) 17 miles long. Just a quick 15 min drive from Idaho Falls. Elephant Hunters Historical Site saved the day.
Kinda hard to find but well worth the hunt
A great place...off the side of the road, in.the middle of nowhere. A great place to stop and think
I was directed by some locals to this place: 17 Mile Cave (approximate distance from Idaho Falls). Evidently, a lot of high school kids use this as a place to party. Theres graffiti along every inch of of the walls within reach and sporadic trash along the way. BUT it just adds to the feeling of a hidden treasure. Bring a jacket. You can feel the cold air blowing out of the cave before you even enter. And some good flashlights! Its pitch black by the time you reach the first bend. Youll have to experience this for yourself. My son and I loved it! Recommend you try this after taking the Hells Half Acre North Trail
If there is no fire smoking you out its kind of cool. Big party spot for locals I think only been in it smokeless one out of three times. Would be way cooler without all the graffiti. Bring a coat way way cooler in the cave. Definitely worth a visit !
Fun place to visit once in a while. It used to be much deeper when I was a child but now it is full of water so you can only go about 1/2 mile down. The entrance opens into a huge cavern which most people will find amazing. I do recommend good shoes as the moisture makes the ground slippery. Bring good flashlights too because it is dark, and has large rocks everywhere. If your lights go out it would be very difficult to find your way out without hurting yourself. It is sad that this cave gets so much graffiti as it was once very beautiful. People also camp out inside the cave and do not respect it so it can sometime have lots of trash laying around. I still think it is fun to check out if your not from the area. Pretty cool that such a cave can be created by an air pocket within Molten Lava when it cools.
Fun lava cave! The kids love it. Wish people would not spray paint it though.
Neat location. Decades worth of jerks ruining it with graffiti and littering really bring it from a 4 or 5 to a 3. A good cleaning crew could bring it back to its former glory.
Pretty sweet cave located behind the sign. The water inside is reminiscent of Harry and Dumbledores horocrux excursion. Filthy and creepy. The cave is easy to navigate, smooth ground, wide, tall, etc. Lots of graffiti.
Gotta check out the caves
Cool experience I guess. Every square inch of the cave was tagged with graffiti
Very interesting and sad. Didn’t like all the graffiti but still really cool.
I didnt visit here but points are noice
So gross. Pools of stagnant trash infested water, graffiti everywhere.
Cool lava tube to explore
