For a town the size of Idaho Falls, its quite a treat for them to have a zoo (and its pretty good sized, as well!) The animals were all out when we were there, and my kids wanted to see every single exhibit. Plus, they love the little play area. Weve been to Tautphaus Zoo several times when visiting grandparents, and will definitely go again in the future! Support this small business AND have a great time!

What an quaint little zoo. It is very enjoyable to walk through. The animal exhibits are natural and provide easy viewing of the animals. There is plenty of shade and beautifully landscaped grounds. The animal exhibits are unique. We learned of several new animals during our visit. This zoo is smaller then out one back home but it is well worth it. I highly recommend visiting.

Overall recommend but my daughter and I won’t be returning more than once a year.Zoo was crowded, masks required. Litter could be found along the paths. Animals were in pretty small enclosures and due to the zoo size, you could easily get through the full zoo in 30-45min when the animals are mostly asleep. They did have a variety of animals - a huge plus. The paths and regions were theme decorated and made it more interesting going from animal a to b. Although, I was shocked there was little to no flowers & other plant life.Food was available as well as ice cream. Pricing wasn’t too crazy; maybe a little under what you’d expect to pay.Recommend scoop ice cream, chicken strips, and definitely the fries...the batter they use is awesome. Hand sanitizer was made available. Though, no staff cleaned the sit down tables between use.We didn’t use it but they also have a toddler play area near the petting zoo (closed).I think our visit was a bit of a let down because I saw the animal list and assumed it would be much bigger and resemble some of the larger zoos I’ve attended.

Funky little zoo that I really enjoyed for an hour or so. Some of the exhibits were closed due to colder weather, but there were still many animals to see. Only $8 for an adult. Good fun. If you have kids, you might want to wait to visit until warmer weather. Still, it was a nice afternoon.

For the price of 8 bucks, this zoo is amazing! When we went the lions were awake and running around which I have never seen before! The otters are always a treat to see and it’s a great little zoo. I would suggest going later in the day when it is cooler and when the animals are more active. Such a cool place!

Cute little zoo! Be aware that masks are technically required, but most people took them off after entry since most of the exhibits are outdoors. There’s normally a petting zoo and a bird show, but both were closed due to COVID. My 3 year old and 1 year old had fun! We stayed for about an hour and had seen everything twice. It’s pretty well shaded, but it was still really hot when we went. It would be nice if they added a few misting stations throughout the park to cool people off since guests are expected to wear masks in 90° weather. Overall good experience for the price.

I really enjoyed this zoo! I was happy to see the enrichment in the exhibits and most if not all of the animals seemed to be happy and healthy. I also greatly appreciated the amount of signage throughout the zoo giving answers to questions and concerns that Im sure the staff have heard a million times- like that the tiger is a slender lady. It would have been nice to have individualized information on some more of the animals. Im curious as to how old.the tortoise is and didnt see any info on that. All in all awesome zoo. Especially for the price. The aquarium in town should take notes.

We have a membership to the zoo and visit regularly with our 2 & 9 year old girls. Theres always something new to learn and the keepers are informative and friendly. Today was Carnivore Craze where they feed the animals on exhibit for everyone to see. The different kinds of enrichment they do with and for the animals to help them use their natural instincts is super interesting. You can spend as little as an hour here if youre there for a quick trip or find things to do that lasts for a few hours.

Great range of animals for the size of the zoo. However, we did notice that there were only 1 or 2 of each kind, for most of the species.. Im sure they are well-taken care of but the animals do look kinda lonely. We didnt get the best weather during our visit, so that probably affected the number of animals out and about too. Also, there seems to be quite a bit of renovation happening around the park now.

This zoo is perfect for little kids. Its not a huge zoo, and some of the bigger animals were hiding and not visible, but it was really fun. My only complaint is that I belong to a reciprocal zoo and the website clearly said that I should get in free to this zoo (some are free, some are 50% off, so I always check before I go), but they would only give me a 50% discount. I probably could have pushed it and shown them the website, but it wasnt worth the effort. I just think they should probably train their employees a little better on how to tell which ones on the list are free and will ones are half off.

This is a really cute little zoo, where we got to see some interesting animals and birds we hadn’t seen before, and also got to see things closer than we had before. The landscaping is also really nice. The loss of stars is because the entry person (a blonde middle-aged woman) didn’t understand that our AZA-reciprocal annual pass from another zoo was worth free admission, trying to charge us 50%, and then said “that’s why I don’t like these passes, people want to argue about them all the time.” We wouldn’t argue with her except for it clearly says that when your home zoo has “100%&50%” and the zoo you’re visiting also has “100%&50%” then your admission will be free. As opposed to the ones marked just “50%”, where you will pay 50% off the admission price. Both our home zoo pass (Asheville) and this zoo are in the 100/50 category. So in the end, after we “argued” with her she very rudely said “fine, just go in”, as if we were getting away with something, instead of it just being how it was supposed to be. We really enjoyed seeing the zoo but the rude encounter made us anxious and kind of left a bad taste in our mouths. Maybe people argue with her about the passes “all the time” because she’s doing it wrong. Also, she didn’t have her face mask on, if you care about that kind of thing.

Oklahoma native here, in Idaho Falls for a summer internship. The zoo, as many have already stated, is small, but well maintained. Even coming from a state with larger zoos (OKC and Tulsa), the primate exhibits was probably the most diverse Ive seen. And their snow leopard breeding program is one of the most successful in the country. They also have a grey gibbon exhibit with a full family, which Cosette, an education assistant at the zoo, told me is not the case anywhere else. They truly deserve their AZA accreditation and have purchased land with the intent to expand. Definitely a great spot to see!

Tiny gem in the Gem State! It’s a smaller zoo, but you can’t beat $5 admission for adults! (Check out Groupon for discount deals.) The twin baby sloth bears and their mama were a hit! Super cute and so much fun to watch.I knocked off a star since the zoo is not requiring guests to wear masks, even though the indoor exhibits are open. We did not see anyone disinfecting high-trafficked surfaces, but there are many signs reminding people not to touch the glass and to remind six feet apart. We would have stayed longer, but we left after an hour because there were too many people, making it very very difficult to socially distance.
