When you drive to this hike, you will first enter a private community area and the gate guard will greet you at the gate to give you a parking pass to place in your vehicle dashboard. This is a moderate hike and has great views up on the top. Be very careful to wear shoes with nice thread on the bottom because it does get pretty slippery. There are parts of this hike that you have the option of using a rope to climb up or down the mountain. Overall it was an amazing hiking experience if you are looking for a challenge. Stay safe everyone!!! ️

This trail is a treat, it’s well worth the couple hours walking to the Summit. It hadn’t rained so the path was not muddy, though some spots had ropes if you required. We hiked at midday and were happy with a number of covered spots along the way to shade us on the ascent. The lush greens and the gorgeous blue sky led the way with sweeping views down the valley and towards the sea.

Great hike, partially shaded closer to the start. Not very difficult until the end, but I saw children and people of all ages climbing it, so if you take your time and pay attention you should be able to finish it. Bring plenty of water.

AMAZING! the trail gets difficult for the last 3/4 mile up but its worth it. Go slow and watch your footing. Once you get to the top where theres a radio tower, go to the left and continue the trail to the next peak only a little further away. There is a bench to sit down on and you can look over the other side. Also a great spot to watch the clouds roll over the crest of the mountain.

Started off around 730AM, took our time, however no signs at the end of the trail. Please note: When you hit the bench you are at the end. We continued on to the right until we hit the yellow tie down, this was a little sketchy but the views were worth it. My 20 year old son had wanted to do this so I worked myself up enough courage to compete this. I am certainly not the most fit person to do this, 46 years old, over weight and former smoker of 28 years, if I can do it so can you. You wont regret it once you get there, we brought plenty of water and a few snacks, round trip took us around 4 hours with plenty of breaks.

My favorite hike so far! Definitely not a beginner hike but worth the views! Even if it’s sunny at the bottom, be prepared for rain and muddy/slippery conditions. There are some areas where you’ll need to use the rope to climb but not overall difficult. Also not crowded like the other hikes - highly recommend!

Awesome hike. You could do the loop but I just stuck with the access road in and out. Its a straight forward up hill walk till you start the stairs. There are ropes to help at the tricky sections. It can get pretty muddy and slippery in other sections, so be ready if you know it has rained recently. It is a 360 degree view at the top and there is a small bench to sit. Unfortunately the day I went it was way too cloudy but at the same time it felt like I was really within the clouds. Took me 1hr 25mins to get to the top and 1hr to get back down.

This place is so underrated. A moderately difficult hike that does not disappoint on views. The hike starts out tame on a rocky road. The road eventually turns into a red dirt road. The trees start to shrink and you find yourself on a ridge with slopes on each side of you. The stairs can get a bit dicey, so hike carefully. Mahalo!

Review №21

A simply amazing hike! Take a taxi there and you wont have to worry about parking. The hike takes you all the way up the mountain along a ridge, so there are views for days all the way. Bring a jacket or something warm for the top - it can be very windy and sometimes wet too. Prepare for muddy conditions, and some strenuous climbing. Lots of traffic here but worth it!

This is such an underrated hike in Oahu. If you are looking for a secluded, medium exertion hike, this is a must do! The trailhead start point is tucked into a neighborhood up in the hills. You must check in with the guard at the gate first, but there is no fee.

Correctly categorised as intermediate/moderate hike. Small but good parking, well marked, easy incline first half to peak then steeper and some scrambling up ropes for 5-10m, muddy & slippery most of the way, metal brace stairs. Might catch low laying clouds at summit and will see fantastic 360 views. Great hike for a bit of endurance but doesnt require lots of climbing or near death experiences. Well worth it!

Amazing landscapes throughout the trail. It started getting harder towards the end, but there are ropes to help people climb. I would recommend to do it in the morning, but keep in mind there is a gate that wont let people through before sunrise. The view really is worth the effort!

This is the trail head. Its in a gated community, but when you drive up to the guard shack you just tell him you are there to hike the trail. He will need to see your drivers license and then give you a parking pass and allow you to enter. He will even give you instructions on how to get to the trail head, as well as inform you that everywhere else is private property. A lot of very nice homes in this area, with great views. The trail starts out pretty easy, just walking up a dirt road, but youll hit a point where youll see stairs, and this is the beginning of the real ascent up to the radio antenna. It gets pretty steep the last leg, but the view from the top is phenomenal. You can see both sides of the island.

We loved this hike. If using GPS to get to the hike make sure you zoom in and pick the starting point of the hike not the trail it self, GPS will take you to a neighbouring community if you just put the trail in and dont select the actual starting point (which is inside a gated community). The guard at the gate gives you a parking pass, there are maybe 20 we got there around 8:30am on a Saturday in Feb and got spot #8/20. The trail is well marked, and really theres only one trail so you cant venture off too much. The first section is very wide with a few look out points (we were lucky to have a hot day so there were only a few muddy sections), it then does get more narrow and more exposed to sun and wind (but it doesnt feel like a ridge walk), then you get to the stairs (ENDLESS STAIRS). It goes on for a while. A few people had micro spikes, I could see how they would help if it was even just a little wet. A few sections had ropes that were useful. They are steep but there are also sections to step aside to rest/let people pass. Took our slow butts 2 hours to summit. It was pretty windy at the top but its almost a 360 view (except for the power lines). You get a great view of three peaks from here too.We brought our hiking poles and only used them for going down (not up), some of the steps are massive. Deepening on your hiking style, hiking gloves are good too as I had to sometimes grab the upper step to help myself up or on the muddy ropes. In the end it took us 2 hours to descend. Amazing hike! The limited number of parking stalls is nice too as it does spread out the number of people on the trail at a giving time.

Review №27

Just accept that you will get plenty of mud on your shoes on this trail. Then, you will find a truly awesome 3-4 hour hike that takes you up along the ridge. Bring plenty of water and maybe a snack. Also I recommend going on a dry day to at least make the hike a bit easier and less muddy. A clear day would also provide a much better view since its usually foggy. There is parking at the trail head and you will have to present ID to get in to the neighborhood. However, its worth it, because this is one of the coolest trails Ive hiked.

Incredible hike. Took us about 3.5 hours, with stops. Every turn brings a new view and it just kept getting even better. The trail is steepest towards the top, but it’s worth it - on a clear day you can see from coast to coast, and there’s a fun little bench to rest on if you go to the very top (just past the radio tower). Ropes on the way up are helpful, and the mud would be tough on a rainy day.

Not the toughest hike but it can get real slippery and muddy on a wet day. Speaking of wet days. The two times I tried this hike were on wet days (just my luck) and my view was pretty much clouds both times. Bummer... But I will definitely be back on a dry day, as I am sure the view is very nice without the clouds blocking everything!

Amazing hike, its not technical at all. You start out in a neighborhood, walk up to the beginning of the trail. Beginning is paved, then later its red sand. You start climbing pretty fast. After a while you see stairs, this is where it really begins. There is a nice bench next to it to rest. The stairs are tough. You pass electrical wires and then walk up to the radio tower. From there its just a 3minute walk up to the top. It is possible to do a loop with the trail next to this one. However, the walk back is really amazing. Especially for the photos the walk back is awesome.Bring good shoes, clothes that are okay when they get muddy and at least 2 bottles of water. There are ropes at places to help you up the muddy parts, but its not really necessary.Easy fun trail with amazing views. Good alternative for the forbidden haiku stairs trail! We walked slow and took a lot of water and photo breaks and it took us almost 3 hours to reach the top. The walk back was just 45 minutes.

4 mile round trip hike located at the top of a private neighborhood. Youll have to show your ID at the guard shack and you will be given a pass to display in your car. Be sure that you park in the designated parking areas indicated on the pass. Took about 4 hours to complete with picture and snack breaks. This is one trail that youd want to check the weather, couple days before and the day of the hike. It can get pretty muddy. There is a section towards the top where youre scaling a mud slick wall with the use of a rope. Once you get through that, youll be rewarded with views of the Koolau mountain range and the east side of Oahu.

One of my favorite trails in O’ahu. 5 miles round trip. Allow 3 hrs for this hike. There is a guard house about 1 mile before the trailhead. Let them know you are going to hike and they will ask for your driver’s license to write the number down and give you a parking pass. Trail is well maintained by the Sierra Club. Nice vistas from the ridge on the way up. The last 1/2 mile to the end of the trail has lots of steps. It looks steep but don’t be intimidated. Once you get to the antenna tower, keep going another 100 yards to the end, marked by a bench. Enjoy your snacks and the view at the top for a while before turning back.

Pretty trail with lots of stunning views of southeastern coast of Oahu. The first part is not that hard (but sometimes quite slippery). The farther you get, the harder it gets. The latter part is full of steep steps and inclines, in some places with steep drops adjacent to the trail on both sides. If its windy or rainy - possibly dangerous. If its hot - dangerous in a different way. Bring enough water! At least one litre per person, better more! In some spots it was unbelievably hot because of the sun, warm winds and the heated rocks. We didnt make it all the way up to the top because of the heat and lack of water, but we were told that you have a fantastic view from up there, of the southern coast as well as of the eastern.

First of all, this is a long hike! My brother, my sister and I are fast hikers and this hike took us approx. 4 hours. The location of the starting point is quite bad but once you get there, the path to the summit is made clear so you dont have to worry about this. I would highly suggest you bring water and sunscreen. Gloves could help too because there is ropes im certain places to help you climb. The hike itself is not that hard but I would not say that it is easy. The hike can be very muddy at the start because the path is full of trees so the sun can not dry to way. In my personnal opinion, the view on the way to the summit is more beautiful that at the summit itself. We went on a cloudy, so that might be the reason why! In general, I would say it was my favorite hike on the island. Mahalo!

This trial is much harder than it seems, but is definitely doable. Bring plenty if water and hiking boots/shoes are definitely a must. Bring enough water and go early. It gets muddy even when it hasnt rained for a while, so probably not advisable if it has rained recently. If you have hiking gloves I would recommend it as there are some ropes to aid in your climb. It was painful at the moment but felt really good about it in retrospect.

Amazing trail! Not a lot of people on the trail given the way you access the trail. Access through a gated community. The guard at the gate will provide you a pass. They only have 8 passes once their out, no entry until someone else comes out (if youre doing the right thing) .The guards are hilariously disgruntled with their jobs . The trail is amazing, everytime we stopped for a picture the view was better and better. A few slick spots but nothing too crazy. Im sure during or just after the rain it gets pretty slick throughout. Trail is well maintained and has steps in steep parts. Theres a rope in one of the slick spots. Overall great trail, able to run in spots, amazing view, just over 4 miles in all, challenging at some points.
