This is a huge beautiful manicured area centrally located in an urban Beach resort. you can walk for blocks through flowers under beautiful trees, cross Kalia Road and there are picnic areas and beach access. Federal property well maintained. Military police patrol.
The beach park is nice, not too crowded. The museum is a great place to learn about the military and its history in Hawaii and the Pacific.
The beach is clean and nice. There are picnic pavilions with BBQ grills. The area is very dirty. Lots of flies but it is right on the beach. Cant find that anywhere else is Waikiki. There are volley courts, more picnic tables and is very shaded through the park area. It is federal property so there arent homeless drinkers or a lot of disturbances here. There is also an army museum here with free admission to the public.
The beach is definitely underrated. It has great views of diamond head and a couple restaurants right by it.
Best place to watch the sunset in Waikiki! I arrived just as the sun had gone over the horizon dipping into the grand Pacific Ocean! Ive also been during the day and there is plenty of lawn space to sit and just relax. There was also a volleyball game going on, as well as plenty of people exercising or just visiting the park. If you like to people watch, this is a good place. People from all over the world! I like to try and guess where people are from. There are lots of visitors from Australia, NZ, Japan, and the West coast of the US.
Good place to go to the beach especially if you dont like sitting on the sand
Every time I go to new location I cant believe what this island has to offer its absolutely amazing individually in there own ways.
Cool hideaway beach just behind the Army Museum. Theres also a few small eateries here too, that have some delicious eats too.
So this place is actually a great beach. Friday nights you can catch a free fireworks show, that lasts about 10 minutes. We go frequently, as it never gets old. Its also a great place to catch a glimpse into the marine life. I witnessed a pregnant Hawaiian monk seal come up to shore here, this morning, and it was absolutely amazing. The two police officers that were there made sure to keep the crowd away from her, which was awesome on their part. The water is usually pretty calm. It tends to get pretty crowded because, well, its Waikiki.Enjoy your visit.
Fort DeRussey Beach Park secludes itself from the jungle of high-rise hotels on both sides. It is well-kept and has a perfect combination of open grass area and manicured trees. It opens up to about the best section of Waikiki Beach. There are a few historical markers along the park edge that help you understand the evolution from native taro farms to military fort to tourist destination.
Beautiful, really enjoyed it ....a lot of homeless people though
Lovely beach, and had a great visit from Rocky, the resident Monk Seal
Very pretty Beach, but it’s crowded. It’s located right behind the Hale Koa resort—this means a constant flow of people. It’s also open to the public. There are volleyball sandpits, beach rentals, a snack shack, and a few concrete picnic table. The beach itself is cleaner than most in the area. However, it can be rocky. Those with sensitive feet should consider wearing water shoes. The water is crystal clear! You can wade out a very far distance without getting above neck level, and the tide is easily managed. There are NO lifeguards, though, so be mindful! There’s a beautiful view of Diamond Head. Sailboats are all over the horizon, and the sunsets are great! It’s a gentle tide that’s great for kids.
Nice beach park. lots of sand volleyball courts.
A beautiful beach-side park with plenty of shade for picnics, barbecues, and fun. A great place to swim and lay out under the sun.
Wide open spaces in the heart of downtown honolulu...beautiful
Enjoyed walking with my family through this park and along the beach
Such a great walk, so much to see on this walk. I took alot of pictures. Theres a museum on the grounds and picnic benches and barbecues there. Beautiful scenery.
Most of the hotels and resorts such as Hilton, Modern Honolulu, and Hale Koa is located within easy walking distance to Fort DeRussy Beach Park and it wonderful beach. Plenty of people are out here most of the popular hours, but early morning is much easier for a run or jog along this stretch of beach. There are plenty of water activities of all sort out here. Stayed at the Modern Honolulu which is a easy access to this beach and park using the walking ramp.
I love it, quite and conveniently located right next to the beach. Great place to enjoy the breeze and watch the sunsets
Great place to bbq and relax with family and friends. I love that they have security patrolling the grounds... feels safe.
Great place to get sunset pictures and pictures of Diamond Head.
Lovely beach with services like surf boards, beds and umbrella rental for 20 dollars for 2 hrs. Cocktail & beer kiosk nearby.
Stayed at the hill in the Hawaiian village and this is just right next door to it. Basically past this beach park every day I went for a walk to go venture around Honolulu and Waikiki. This is a beautiful path to walk especially when the sun is about to set.
View is magnificent, sand & surf are great!
Pristine blue water. Oahu is truly magical.
Despite its popularity this is a very peaceful and tranquil place as are all the Hawaii islands. Honolulu is a modern vibrant city so I have included other photos, not just the Waikiki Beach area.
Nice clean beach. Even has an area for kids to swim.
Beautiful place to watch fireworks on Friday night, and to enjoy a calm Beach area. Very clean. Very well maintained.
This is a nice park with a nice beach. You can walk from here all the way past Waikiki, then down to kuhio beach. Its a nice walk along the waterfront.
An amazing place to enjoy the beach at especially the beautiful sunsets!!!
Wonderful place!
Beautiful beach and well maintained beach park. I have been to many awesome beaches in mainland USA, hardly a few of them are so well maintained.
Touristy spot but sun is good, water is great. So many places to buy drinks and eat food!! Even rent all different kinds of equipment! Lovey spot
Unplanned trip... so surreal to be visiting a place of such significance and loss of life. Recommend visit highly and if planned properly self tour best option.
Beautiful area..lots to see...wear comfortable shoes for walking around
Suns Up offers shaved ice and cold drinks to keep u cool while u r on the beach
Fort derussy Park in Waikiki is a staple for me every time I visit and when I Lived there. The beautiful park with luscious grass and tropical plants greet people with a beautiful area of Waikiki Beach where there are tables, grills and seating with shade where you can enjoy the wonderous oceans activities. The military museum its a must-see to understand our history. It is a place where locals and tourists mingle and meet. it is also a place where filming for many of the Hawaiian TV series Hawaii Five-O chutes and used tourists and locals as background extras. There are bathrooms, Beach showers for the swimmers and surfers.
We watched the fireworks here and it was a perfect spot! We got there about 20 minutes early and had a really nice place to view the fireworks. About 5 minutes before the show the beach filled with people. I would suggest to show up about 15 minutes early.
Great beach if you are military
Very nice to walk around with this beautiful scenery. Great sunset, a must see.
Love it! Definitely a great Beach. Unfortunately theres no parking anywhere near here.
I love it . Nice Beach to get a tan. Or just hangout.
The beach is quieter than Waikiki, which in my opinion is a huge plus. Also, for people with strollers (like us) its great to have a boardwalk to stroll with baby, especially during sunset. There are a few restaurants along the boardwalk. Also great people watching! Beach volleyball, racket ball, etc. These are 4 sunsets on different days, and different parts of the beach.
Nice spacious and clean. Bar b sue grills installed on the grass area
Great place for sun bring your own shade lots to do and water toys to rent have fun thats why youre there
Very nice! Great views & hotels near by with restaurants close to sand as well!
Came here on a Friday night to watch the fireworks coming from Hilton. Great spot, and while it is packed, theres plenty of room for even large groups. Seating is available in both the grass or the beach. Highly recommend to come here for Friday nights at 7:45 (Sep-May) or 8:00 (Jun-Aug) to catch the short but sweet fireworks show.
Great little museum. There is no admissions price, and the location is both historic and beautiful. Worth exploring for an hour or two. The gift shop has nice souvenirs and the staff is friendly.
Great place in Waikiki to enjoy beach, watch Sunset, play volleyball or just simply relax and make your BBQ party with friends!!!
Very popular beach. We saw Hawaiian Monk Seals sunning on the beach!
Very laid back, fireworks at night, plus white sand beach. A real vacation paradise!
Beach volleyball court. Right on Waikiki beach. Just a couple hundred meters away from Hilton. Fireworks display on Friday evenings towards the North West.
Great place to play beach volleyball. Thats the main reason I was there:)
Chill, clean but freaks come out at night so go inside after 7pm
Perfect ending to Mothers Day 2019 with a wonderful sunset from the park. There is so much to do at the park from the beach and ocean activities, to volleyball and BBQ pits with picnic tables. Finally, the park is clean and very well taken care of!
Beautiful scenery, Rocky beach so bring your shoes. Very relaxing and peaceful! Definitely need a strong umbrella because the flimsy ones from the store wont cut it.
Lots of activities. Great places to grab a bite or a drink. Beautiful, clean, and clear water/sand.
Huge beach that is very well kept. The grassy areas are nice too when you want to enjoy the heat but be out of the sand.
Great park right on the beach.
I really enjoyed the experience this museum offered.
Bring the family for picnics, grilling or fun in the sun its a popular spot for a good reason!
The hot spot in Waikiki. A great spot to get a beach front view of Waikiki, and you can sit on the Jeti and watch one of the prettiest sunsets youll ever see. We also watched a large sea turtle mulling around near the Jeti popping up for some air every few minutes.
A beautiful park area located on Waikiki beach with expansive views from Diamond Head to Hilton Hawaiian Village. This is an ideal location to view the magical Hawaiian sunset.
Wonderful Beach Park with walking Path
A nice place to walk around and to enjoy nature. It’s also a great place to catch a view of the sea under the trees.
Met my sister, Lt. Michele McCarthy U S A in Fort DeRussy in 1972 while she was R&R from Viet Nam, we spent that week enjoying Peace and Fun!! Then Michele went back on Duty. I went home. Our stay was a beautiful and delightful. One I will treasure always.
Great spot chill.
Very busy, crowded beach the day I went. Very young crowd mostly, too. (20s). Good energy and nice dining selection including an outdoor venue with live music. Calm, flat water.
Love this park soooo much its very nice and spread out and well maintained. The trees and flowers are beautiful
While the beach is nice, the rocks in the water are less so. The shelters are reasonably shady. The restrooms have no doors.
Stumbled across this free museum during a rainstorm. It has great information about Oahus role in WWII and is inside a former gun battery part of which had been restored to show how it operated.Very cool.
Great location. Not as crowded as some of the other areas. Sunset Yoga!
Great local park in the midst of Waikiki. Local stretching class 6 days a week in the morning. Gourds and breadfruit tree. Next to the beach wlak and US Army museum.
Convenient parking easy access to beach, food and shopping.
Beautiful park, not nearly as crowded as Waikiki. Id highly recommend it for all of your floating in the tropical sea needs.
A great place for a walk, kids friendly, military discount for rentals.moo
It would be 5 stars if the barefoot bar was opwn
EXCELLENT..EXCELLENT..EXCELLENT very clean and well kept.Nice walkways and Amazing trees plants and birds. Very well groomed area leading from the busy hotels and the hustle and bustle of everyday life to the barefoot tranquility of the Pacific ocean and its maintained beaches. Definitely a must see if you can, Waikiki can be a busy and loud place, this is the perfect unwind before hitting the beach
Good place to go to the beach if you choose not to have a hotel on the beach. There are tables and benches to sit on. There are occasional homeless people who walk by but otherwise, it feels safe during the day.
Its a beach in Hawaii, is there anything more that needs to be said? Seriously, though, its a nice beach, there are bathrooms strategically located for convenience, and a few places along the path to grab food and drinks. We took part in the 2019 Na Koa Wounded Warrior Regatta, which is a an event recognizing the sacrifices our wounded warriors and Gold Star families have made and continue to make in behalf of our Nation. We had an amazing time competing, and took third in both of our races. Best of all, though, is our team, the Rowed Warriors, placed best out of the teams that represented our unit!
Excellent park without all the crowds of Waikiki.
Nice display of different military styles
We LOVED this beach, it is a little rocky so I would be careful and maybe consider some water shoes. But the water is absolutely stunning and warm! There are large grass areas to sit and have a picnic. There are quite a few people but everyone is so friendly and enjoying the beach you do not even notice. There is also a great little drink shack as well if you want to enjoy something fruity while you lay on the beach.
Beautiful beach. Plenty to do.
Great sunsets and your kids can play on the beach while you have a few drinks just a few feet away!
A beautiful little place. Great place to hide from mid day heat. Has a few picturesque corners-great for pictures
This is a smaller beach, really tame water, and not packed like Waikiki always is. It was a very short walk from our hotel. I would recommend it if you are staying close to the area.
Beautiful ocean blues, beach space is limited but with the park right here, who needs the sand!
Great Waikiki park to BBQ and steps from beaches, hotels, and Waikiki! Come grill with us!!!Public grills and benches make it easy to have get togethers or impromptu picnics/dates. Trees provide ample shade.Parking can be found at the nearby museum parking lot. (The museum itself will be a separate review)Closer to the water are volleyball courts, and a concrete walkway that lines the beach for a nice long stretch.Peddle “bike boats” for rent near the beach.Snack bar is right next door to that. Public seating and shade is provided nearby also.
