Bishop Museum is a very beautiful and peaceful museum... It is great for quiet reflection. I was often the only person on the entire floor and took my time with the exhibits. I like the room with all the paintings and the big open center gallery was very Night at the Museum cool. There was so much to take in that I know that I have to visit again.Expect a temperature check and masks are required. Social distancing wasnt really an issue because there were only a handful of people there when I went. It is a ghost town right now. I highly recommend it if youre a local like me and have never gone.

Half closed. I like touching things and none of those exhibits are open. They also have fancy thermometers for entry. Full mask enforcement. Basically it is open, there is stuff to look at, and it is one of the safer places to visit right now.

Its an old-fashioned provincial museum that is worth seeing for that reason alone. Its the kind of place that has a couple of chicken bones on display that are labeled chicken bones directly under a suspended skeleton of a sperm whale. You gotta love it.

With the $2 planetarium ticket, it cost about $28 total. It was worth the money; I loved the exhibits and planetarium show. All of the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable with all of my questions. My only negative feedback is that one of buildings clearly labeled on the map as a part of the museum was not open to the public. Even without exploring that building, I spent four hours here so youll get your moneys worth. The gift shop also has some unique, locally made items crafted in old Hawaiian tradition. Definitely much better souvenir or gift that youll get in a shop at Waikiki.

The place was very big. It had a lot of exhibits. Definitely would take the whole day to finish if you would really like to read and learn everything. The people were friendly. There were max capacity signs pero room and available hand sanitizers throughout and all of the interactive areas were closed due to the the ongoing pandemic. I cant fault them for something they cant control, I think they still did a good job making sure everyone can enjoy the available exhibits.

The Bishop Museum is one of my favorite things on the island. I always learn something new when we go. The kids never get bored of the lava pour so we see that every time. The planetarium has some great shows including a really interesting one about how the Hawaiians used the stars to navigate their way across the Pacific. Theres always something new in a couple of different galleries, so youve never really seen it all.

Monarchs Tour: Bishop Museum & Iolani Palace Combo TourPerfect Combo Tour to Learn about Hawaiian History!!For anyone that appreciates history and would like to know more about how Hawaii came to be i would strongly encourage checking it out! This being the only Royal Palace in the US i was very intrigued to see what it was all about. We did a guided group tour and we pretty much went from room to room to look at all of the beautiful artifacts that have been recovered over the years. They do a good job of explaining what life was like then and what the royal family was like by providing ample context. After a lunch of Kalua Pork we went over to Bishop Museum. An Absolute Jewel of Hawaii!! Where we saw hundreds of artifacts that detail the life and history of ancient Hawaiians. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and definitely was a major part of what made the tour go smoothly!

My wife chose this museum on a whim and I’m really glad that she did. It’s located off of the tourist path and doesn’t look like much when looking in from the roadway. When you get inside though you will be pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it is and how many Polynesian historic items and artifacts you will see. There is also a surfing display in the building next to the main museum. It looks closed from outside but it’s not. As a heads up there’s a $5 parking fee that you pay for at a kiosk.

Very interesting place, and you can spend hours inside. However I feel that is a little bit overpriced. And you if you are from the mainland they do not accept student IDs. Meaning you can only get the student discount if you are a student from Hawaii. I thought that was kind of unfair. You can get military discounts though. Regardless the museum is really good. So after a while I did not care about paying almost 25 bucks. By the way the science museum also they have a show about the lava and volcanoes. I would really recommend you to watch. Came to visit this museum for the first time to see the Rapa Nui exhibit and made the mistake of thinking I could explore everything in 2 hours - didn’t realize it was a campus with several buildings housing various exhibits! We only got a chance to quickly peruse the Hawaiian Hall Complex - all that gorgeous wood throughout the historic building would have been enough of an attraction, but you could spend an entire morning or afternoon checking out the three floors of Hawaiian artifacts. The Rapa Nui exhibit was very enlightening - thought I had known the island’s history but I learned a lot. I found the modern artists’ exhibit a little puzzling ... not really enough information to tie the space together into the overall exhibit. There was a pile of postcards on the floor with a discarded sign that said Do Not Touch - couldn’t tell if a table had been taken away and the materials left there or if it was an actual art installation. Will have to come back to explore the rest of the campus!

Okay so Ill be honest it was raining, I developed a cold, so we looked for something easy to do today. The main building with all the artifacts is totally worth the cost of admission and can be done in about two and half to three hours if you are taking your time. I would not recommend this part of the museum for kids under like 10. Its a lot of reading to figure out what things are or what they did; probably just not a kid thing. They do have a nice garden to walk through and a science center. The science center is much more for kids, but we adults were bored senseless by it. Not a whole lot to see or do in that building. Bishop Museum also has a planetarium with different shows. To be honest Im sick and I fell asleep--so at least you know its cozy. My husband and best friend said it was good and alright.
