The Duke Paoa Kahanamoku Statue seems to get its fair share of the attention, even when hes having to compete with so much of Waikikis commercial and natural features around it.

This is a large and beautiful statue of Duke Kahanamoku. We didnt know the history behind him but fortunately some locals took the time to explain. The statue is well looked after and looks new. Apparently the leis on his arms are replaced often.

Pretty cool - on our second trip back through Waikiki they didnt light the lanterns at sunset which seemed odd. Not sure what time they eventually lit them but it was dark when we left all 3 nights. Glad we caught it the first time through.

Fantastic statue of Duke Kahanamoku! The society does great work with keeping the statue well preserved and beautiful, plus there is no shortage of leis adored around Duke’s arms and neck. It’s a beautiful reminder of Duke Kahanamoku’s legacy and his representation as an ambassador to the island’s strong surfing culture. An absolutely wonderful must see location.

A trip to Waikiki Beach isn’t complete without stopping by the Duke Paoa Kahanamoku SHRINE without paying homage to the GOD of surfing. This man surfed his way to FIVE Olympic medals, mastering his craft on a board that weighed 114 pounds.Locals and visitors stop by daily to adorn his outstretched arms with leis to pay homage to a master of his craft.Time it just right, and you can enjoy a world famous Waikiki sunset on the iconic Kalākaua Street.ALOHA!

I am glad to be able to stand in front of this tasteful statue of Duke Kahanamoku who was an idol of my youth. His life still inspires me in these ways: to stay athletically active all your life, to be an honorable role model, to put energy into public service, and to have a sense of fair justice.

Everybody loves Duke to this day. He was a real person of amazing warmth and character. An Olympic champion many times in swimming, introduced surfing to the world outside of Hawaii, and a certified hero who rescued many people in Newport California from drowning. All hail the Duke. I think he would like that so many people want to be photographed with him

This statue is in the center of the Waikiki Beaches. Duke is a historic figure in Hawaiian culture and the worldwide leisure and competitive sport of surfing.
