I visited when the visitors center was closed, so I was only able to walk around the outside of the buildings. However, the interpretive signs they have are excellent and very informative. This is worth a visit! Beautiful grounds and well maintained historic buildings.

Wonderful place to visit when they have a living historian presentation. They were there the entire day with temps in the 40s. Dedicated and knowledgeable folks who truly care about educating and helping the public experience local history. If you attend an event they accept donations so please contribute.

Right next to the Texas Ranger Heritage Center. Tells the history of the first US fort build in Texas. They are in the process of upgrading the site with more history exhibits. The manager on site told several interesting stories and knew a lot of local history. BTW if you hear the bells ringing at the Texas Ranger Heritage Center at 4:30 it means that they are getting ready to close the gates and you need to get your car out of the parking lot.
