This is a wonderful morning adventure for the entire family. $1 an hour to park. The boardwalk trail is about 1.2 miles and takes you through beautiful settings to various points to stop. We saw various wildlife including an alligator and there is alot for little ones to learn about nature and wildlife along the way.

Wonderful day out in nature. Met mom to do some exercise at Six Mile Slough. Not too busy for a Monday which was great. A little warm but a nice breeze going through cypress trees. Walked about 3 miles around boardwalk. Saw turtles sunning on logs, a ribbon snake on boardwalk, an ibis, and cormorant. Thought it was one way still but people walking both ways now. Wonderful area in town to enjoy nature, just hate that you can hear road noise, but still pretty. Great place to walk for exercise, will definitely go back and recommend.

I love Love LOVE this place. Its great to be out in nature alligator hunting. I still havent seen one yet, but Ive seen some other beauties like what I think was a cardinal that flew up to say hi, a couple of huge turtles with shells that looked like old army helmets, and a huge cricket or grasshopper. I dont know. Take a look at the picture. I love that there are benches and picnic tables to just relax and enjoy the sounds of nature. There are inspirational quotes throughout. And there are little quizzes about the animals you may find there. Great experience. Put on bug repellant before you enter and take a bottle of water.

This place was great! We only paid $1 to park for an hour. We went down the boardwalk and the surroundings were awesome! We went in the off season, so there was only 1 gator that we saw. There were more gators there, but due to the heat, they were hidden. We saw other amazing wildlife on the boardwalk though.

Im a local who goes back to this place often. It changes greatly depending on whether its the dry or wet season. I took the guided tour once. Learned a great deal about how a slough works and its importance to the ecosystem. They have a full moon guided tour there. Treat yourself sometime and youll be bewildered by the hundreds of shades of silvery moon that bathes the slough.Restroom facilities, minimal parking fee.

Excellent place to go for a nature walk to see the local flora & fauna in a pristine environment. The all-weather boardwalk is easy to walk & wends its way alongside ponds and through marsh. It’s canopied and shaded by the trees most of the day. I always see a variety of birds and animals, maybe some otters playing or a family of wild pigs. Mute your cellphone so you don’t disturb the nature or your fellow hikers. Plan a few extra minutes to stop into the Nature Center attended by knowledgeable naturalists.Make sure to pay for your parking ticket at the machine near the walkway to the Nature Center. The lot is monitored. It’s only 1$ per hr. to park. Cash or MasterCard or Visa. Display the ticket on your windshield. 2 hours is sufficient for most. You can add an extra hour and buy a 3$/3 hr ticket if you plan to take a more leisurely approach at the vistas and utilize the benches along the path. A very relaxing way to spend a couple of hours!

Not being pet friendly is a no go for me. We attempted to go to the park and unfortunately was immediately met with a sign stating no pets. Therefore, we will not be returning. I see no reason why we should not be able to bring our dog along with us. We were looking forward to a family outing. Again, we will not be attempting a return for this reason.

Six Mile Cypress Slough is a beautiful park in Florida. Start your Journey as early or late as possible (from dawn till dusk) to spot more alligators and wildlife. They’ll be mostly hidden throughout the day.Start counter clockwise on the trail to explore the beautiful nesting areas first. The walkabout is very stroller friendly and contains no obstacle at all. Many different recreational spots and banks allow to rest during the 2 miles journey.Remember to not bring pets (especially dogs) the ground is not suitable for their paws when it’s hot and they‘re easily frightened by the surrounding wildlife.pro Tipp: be smart where you park, if possible (See picture)

On Feb 19, 2019, we struck gold with our first visit to Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve in Fort Meyers, FL. We arrived at ~6PM and for the next half-hour watched squadron after squadron of birds return to the trees on the west side of Gator Lake. It was great as each bird found the specific branch to roost on for the night. We were able to distinguish five different species. Some birds were illuminated by the sunset as they came in. We look forward to returning to this preserve to explore more in the coming days. The board walks are excellent and there are many areas to explore. We returned on the afternoon of the next day to observe the wildlife along the boardwalk and I made the following photos.

Great place to get some exercise and fresh air. Depending on what time of day and year you go, you can spot a lot of wildlife! The boardwalk is small so you can’t be 6 feet apart if someone is walking out to the parking lot while you’re walking into the slough, but it is what it is.

This is an easy walk through a well cared for Florida nature preserve. It is a level raised boardwalk totaling about 1.2 miles from the parking lot, back to your car. We brought our 14month, and she was able to walk a good portion of the trail without help. There is good coverage from the sun and many places to take breaks or set up a tripod and get professional photos of the animals in their element. We saw an alligator, turtle, many birds lizards and squirrels. It is encouraged to remain quiet as to not disturb the animals in their natural environment. We will definitely visit this location again when we next come to visit our family.

I’ve probably been to the Six Mile Slough over 75 times... a quiet boardwalk through a cypress swamp is great for personal reflection, birding, or spending time with family. My kids enjoy walking around looking for wildlife, which is abundant. This is a very popular birding location. Additionally, we almost always see an alligator and a snake of some sort. However, very safe. The boardwalk is just over a mile with shorter cut throughs if you prefer. The slough has 4 swamps and observation platforms overlooking them. Can be very crowded between January and April, so I recommend early morning, before 10am, or after 3pm, if visiting in those months. Parking is $1 an hour or $5 a day. You could easily walk the entire walk in an hour with a steady pace but pay for 2 to take your time.

While it was a lightly rainy day and the birds werent out as much, there was still plenty of wildlife. The rain resulted in less crowds and the ability to listen to the sounds of the wildlife. Its obvious a lot of hard work goes into maintaining this free facility. It was a joy to walk the entire trail and read the stories of different animals. It took us about an hour to walk the entire trail at a moderate pace.Dont forget to donate in the donation box on your way out to help maintain this amazing facility.
