A cinema that has alcohol. What more could you want? The movies are weird and fun. Great staff, and the ambience is alluring and comfy at the same time. And I really dig the seating; house chairs and couches! Not your typical big movie experience. The films are presented with Moxy.

Thanks to an edge of your seat film and winter break, the theater was not crowded. This added more viewing pleasure as the hindrance of someone a bit taller in front of you would make you think twice about choosing to see a movie here. I love that you can enjoy a glass of wine or beer while watching, but as previously stated, this was an anxiety ridden film, Uncut Gems. Last thing you want is a sudden shattering of glass on the floor behind you, which seems inevitably to happen each and every time Ive been here. Perhaps a lighter movie??? I cant imagine theyd serve wine in a red solo cup, lol.

Great place. Wonderful atmosphere. Just a word of caution. The sofas are super comfy but we had neck strain because they are so close to the screen. We will try the seats next time. We will definitely be back!

Ragtag is the best cinema Ive been to. The people who work not only know all about the movies showing, they clearly care about the art.The drinks are great, wide selection of draughts and mixed drinks/wines. And yes, you can take them in the theaters. The biggest seller of this joint is that Uprise Bakery operates out of it so you can get great cookies, pastries, sandwiches, the works.I had my first kiss with my wife here

Wonderful local cinema that features indie and small showing pictures. The atmosphere is so cozy and its really awesome to have non-traditional seating available during movies. Make sure to check out Uprise Bakery located inside for an amazing treat to enjoy during the show.

We are from Ohio and have family in Kansas! We have found Columbia to be a convenient and charming overnight stop when we travel to visit family. The Ragtag Cinema has now become a must whenever we make the trip. The selection of movies is incredible! The food at the adjacent bakery is outstanding, and everyone we encounter - employee or townsperson - is friendly and helpful. A great tradition for our travels has been born.

A wonderful little theatre. Heres hoping it will receive enough funding in the future to add more screens and play more films. I do miss the selection of Plaza Frontenacs theatre in St. Louis and yearn for an independent theatre of similar size here in Columbia.

Wonderful theater showing independent films. You can buy food and drinks from Uprise Bakery and bring them into the theater. There are normal theater seats as well as couches at the front for you to choose from. Ticket prices are fairly standard, but the experience is better than a chain theater. And its a local non-profit!

Jo
Review №24

The fact that Ragtag doesnt show up as one of Columbias best sandwich shops is practically criminal. Every component of the sandwiches are fantastic. Fresh, crunchy, chewy bread, great blends of spices, plentiful portions, and a creative menu make this my absolute favorite place to get a casual meal in the city. Throw in an indie movie theater, a record shop, a cafe, and a bar with a solid, yet small selection of beers and youve got little reason to go anywhere else on the strip. Theres even plentiful parking at the triple deck garage on Hitt street. Whats not to love?

Ragtag is one of Columbias hidden treasures, with indie movies as well as offbeat mainstream films. Plus, if youre so inclined, they offer drinks and real food and you can sit on one of the sofas in the theater and enjoy your show. Great place for a casual or formal date, or just to impress someone whos a little on the artsy side. Five stars.

Very cool joint! Weve only seen movies in the smaller theater but its comfortable and the sound is not too loud. There are a variety of seats, some single, some love seats, the seats on the end have small tables attached so you can BRING YOUR FOOD IN and eat while youre watching the film! Awesome right? The next best thing is the bar and the in house bakery/Cafe where you can buy bread and goodies to go with your fancy cappuccinos and lattes :-) In the small theater the way you come in is the way you exit, so if you are sitting on the far wall and have to go to the bathroom, you will have to cross through in front of the screen.Service was professional and friendly but not overly so.Parking is across the street, the entire place has a hipster vibe, at least as hipster as you can get in Missouri! A+++

You can see films here that you cant see anywhere else. Very thoughtful documentaries and many award-winning movies before they come to the regular outlets. With the uprise bakery in the same building, you can bring drinks and meals into the theater with you. The seats arent quite as comfortable as other theaters, but where else can you sit on a couch at a movie theater?

I would like to be able to see the best movies:a) on any given night as opposed to them showing on intermittent nights.b) in a clean, modern setting, as opposed to a seedy porn theater motif.c) eating high grade, tasty, fresh popcorn instead of a poor qualityproduct.d) without having to search for a place to park my car.Instead, every time a really good flick comes along I have to go to Ragtag because they are exclusively showing it.Almost as irritating is the theaters self-congratulating air of a superior intellectual appeal, as if without them we peons would never get to view quality films. Im sure that in other cities most of these same movies are available to be seen by a wider audience than here in Columbia. True cinema lovers, it seems to me, would want that more citizens would be exposed to the best of cinema, rather than hoarding them just to themselves. On the plus side, its nice that Columbians have the chance to see smaller budget films that otherwise might never make it to a town this size. I understand its necessary for Ragtag to exhibit some of the more lucrative films for financial viability, but I am sick and tired of having to accept the deficiencies set out above every time a good movie comes along.
