When we want to feel sophisticated, we head to the Nick, get a craft on draft, and watch whatever is on.My favorite movies are ones where I have the LEAST expectations beforehand.
Every time I come to the Nick, I have a totally positive experience. There is never a wait at the box office or concessions. Tickets are reasonably priced. The memberships are a great way to support the theater at whatever level you are able, and you save at the box office and receive other small perks with your membership. The theaters are never crowded, and the overall experience provided by the staff is friendly and welcoming. Though they only have two screens, they cycle quickly through various films which always keeps open my options to view something new or old that I have not seen yet. Beer and wine along with popcorn and candy served at the concession is all reasonably priced in stark comparison to big chain theaters. I love the Nick!
Such a great.local movie theater! Im so thankful Columbia has the Nick to show independent films and documentaries the love and attention they deserve. Great place for a date night or even just a night to yourself. The staff are super friendly, the premises are clean, the movies are great, and the concession options are above and beyond. Overall a treasure for downtown Columbia!
My favorite little theater! Much respect to the curators for bringing so much great art to Columbias film lovers.Beautiful interior, great concession stand with some proper snacks and refreshments including craft beer, and staff thats passionate about cinema.
Im gonna be 100% honest here, this was my first time watching a film at the Nickelodeon. Ive casually stopped by and peeked in while strolling Main Street. Heres the thing, I frequently hit Main Street and wander up/down the street and hit the shops/restaurants/museum/Tapps but never slowed down to catch a film until yesterday. Instantly, I fell in love with warm, quaint, and welcoming atmosphere of the Nickelodeon. I didnt feel the haste or corporate overhangings of a traditional commercial theater and it felt pretty darn good. The lobby was creatively decorated, staff was beyond personable, and facilities were clean and comfortable. Ive kinda gotten used to reclining/heated/cooled seats at the commercial theater but the seating here was quite comfortable without all the fuss. Screen quality and audio were great and I had the most wonderful afternoon spent with a dear friend at the Nickelodeon. Im finding more and more amazing places in Columbia, some old and some new but all deserve our support!
From beginning to end, this theater was great! An employee personally came into the theater, announced the movie showing, exit rows and snack bar. It was a very refreshing visit!
“I love the Nick” is what I hear all the time. I’m a sponsor and board member, and proudly share my time and money with them because I believe in their mission, adore their staff, and think that they are a vital business in the heart of downtown. They have great selection of movies, ranging from the weekly additions and also their special screenings. I enjoy when they not only screen a movie, but when they have someone speak about it later. They’ve even had film directors contribute. Indie Grits has become one of the top festivals in the southeast and is a blast from start to finish. Encourage people to support the Nick and become a member if possible.
Had an amazing time last night with friends at Columbias very own Nickelodeon theatre! It is an absolute gem. The staff is great, the atmosphere is both parts modern and nostalgic. We saw Downton Abbey and it was probably one of the best movie experiences I have had in quite some time. I cant wait to go back again.
This is Columbias independent theater as opposed to AMC or Regal. It will run some of the lesser-known but quality films and also sometimes nostalgia reels. The people that run it seem nice and friendly, so thats a plus. It makes it more enjoyable if the people working there like it too. You can drink a beer (or not - I hate beer so I check the not box), have some popcorn, and chill. Its a fun place to go.
Great atmosphere. Comfortable seats. Always unique movies. Friendly staff. They also have classes and instruction on movie making. A truly great asset to Columbia!
This was our first trip to the Nickelodeon and we were very pleased. Good seats, nice refreshments that are reasonbly priced. Very good experience overall.
We love the Nickelodeon. There is a great local feel that you dont get in other places, and they do a great job of screening the films so you dont walk away disappointed.
Amazing place, independent movies and fests too!
This venue is SCs only independent movie theatre and has a convenient downtown Columbia, SC location with restaurants as neighbors. Offers eclectic array of independent and foreign language films with many featured during the films opening weekend. Best prices in town for concessions. Many patrons enjoy sipping a cold beer while viewing the movie.
Great movie offerings, friendly staff, relaxed, homey atmosphere. Love the Nick!
Really cool little Theatre that I like to check what is showing every now and then. They often have unique and lesser know showings as well as smaller events at times. One of the best places to check if you are looking for weekends plans or just are around downtown Main Street with some time!
Excellent popped corn with a wide variety of seasoning salts, essential of course since a movie without a popcorn is like a breast without a nipple. Bravo as well for the Nicks new petting zoo, especially the koala bear with the Brando tattoo, and the ticket taker in the Lady Gaga mask cracked me up. Only criticism: ye who pop in live to address the audience before the trailers: its all about the movie NOT ABOUT YOU, get in and get out AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.
Wonderful selections of films. Always enjoy going here!
Such a great experience. Not even remotely pretentious if youre scared of hipsters. Awesome theater and a terrific staff. We will absolutely be back!
Columbias independent film theater is a true gem. A few years ago The Nick moved into its current, beautifully renovated space, which includes includes two theatres. Serves beer/wine. Constantly providing educational opportunities for young and old alike.
Nice and friendly employees.Very clean and meet people for the first time seams like I knew them for ever. Best Thursday Night Ever.
Cordial employees, tasty popcorn, very clean and well kept. It would be better if the staff gave the no talking no cell phone rule after ALL patrons are seated. It was still an outstanding excursion for my first time visiting.
Awesome and comfortable place to catch foreign movies in a cozy and clean environment
Located on Main Street, it has kept care of this beautiful vintage building. Been coming for years to this theatre. Very affordable prices all across the board.
Columbias choice for cutting edge movies. Youll find shows that last only a few days and are out of the mainstream but are artful, thoughtful, and in a great veiwing venue. Excellent popcorn, wine, and treats. Professional staff and live introductions to each show.
The popcorn was tasty. Loved how the theater was small, it gave me the feel of only a select few can watch a movie at a time. Staff was very nice and curtious. Would love to catch a foreign film there one day.
I love the Nick! Shhhh...dont tell everyone. Its nice to watch a movie in a clean theater, enjoying wine with your popcorn.
Great place for Indie movies, some of the best movie popcorn Ive had. No bad seats and you get tickets online with no convenience fees. Will definitely be visiting again.
Columbia is very fortunate to have an art house movie theater of this quality.
Theres a special charm to this place. Many of the folks who work there are volunteers, there for love of it, rather than money. I think that shines through. It is the only theater in town him Im aware of where I can get a cup of hot tea, to sip during the movie. Not a perk for everyone but, I sure enjoy it!
Awesome theatre always showing great movies.
A fantastic art house theater with 2 screens, and a wide variety of movies shown.
Our showing was full of bright, courteous ppl; good concessions; a great film we could only have seen in an art house. The theater and restrooms were clean. Friendly, professional staff.
Love Love Love this place! Great variety of films, super staff, popcorn and drinks are the bomb, have some wine or beer and enjoy!
The Nick is one of the best parts of Columbia. Grateful to see a community that cares as much about the art of filmmaking as the staff and members of this theater do. Please support this place!
Love this place! Beautiful intimate theaters with great staff and a beer with your show... All-around winner!
Very nice experience at The Nick.
Support this theater, go see a great film from another country, or a documentary that might shake your foundation. Also, ginger ale is sold there.
Lovely theater. Staff are pleasant and professional. The entire place is immaculate.
I just love this little local hang out. My husband and I make this a regular date night. The staff is so friendly and caring, they make a movie night unlike any other! The nick always has interesting shows and seasonal events and they definately have the best popcorn in town!!!
Awesome arthouse theater in downtown Columbia. I wish they did get more mainstream arthouse films, but its the only place in town to see smaller release films. Their concessions are delicious and reasonably priced.
If i could see every movie here I would! Cannot beat the atmosphere, the membership, and the popcorn
I love this place. It is one of the most effective places that pulls creative people who appreciate art and film together. The inside is very clean and comfortable. I attended during the Indie Grits Festival and now I want to return to see more movies. The theatres are smaller than normal ones, but they are nice in the intimate feeling.
Nice theater. The movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, has to be the worst movie ever made but the theater was nice.
Always super nice employees. Can see hard to find and unusual movies here. Always enjoy ourselves when we visit.
The Nick always has great films and an amazing space
I love the Nick, my favorite theatre. Staff is great.
Lots of films that showcase diversity and great movies that show the true art of making movies. Such a delightful staff and beyond perfect customer service!
It was nice inside, the lady in the box office was really nice. I did an instacart order for them.
My favorite place to watch a movie by myself. Best popcorn, always a great movies to watch, craft beer. Even if you havent heard of the movies, just pick one. You wont be disappointed.
One of my all time favorite theaters!!!! Feel like Im going back in time whenever we go there. Great movies, service and quality!
Love this theater. Just like being a kid again. They show movies that the big box theaters do not. It is friendly movie to go to.
Wonderful place to see movies and to take your out-of-town guest.
Was my second visit. It was great. We took students for a field trip, and the staff were sensational! Its such a quaint venue.
The Nickelodeon is a classic Columbia establishment offering indie films and tasty treats. There are two screening rooms with the upstairs being the most newly renovated. The theater was built in an old downtown theater which gives going an old school vibe that cant be replicated. Beer, wine, popcorn, fancy chocolates are some of what youll find for concessions. Prices are reasonable and membership is worth the value if you attend frequently.
Love going here for movie night with my wife.
Great place catch an interesting movie!
This theatre was recently redone and I was pleasantly surprised with how nicely it was decorated. The seats are very comfortable and I like that it is a small theatre- just 2 screens. The cost of the ticket is slightly above average price from other theatres but the concessions are much more affordable so it evens out. The staff were very pleasant and professional and the theatre was clean.
Popcorn flavors are amazing. Friendly and courteous staff
Great facility to watch a movie. Both theaters are intimate with good seating, audio, etc. Concessions have the expected items (great popcorn with several do-it-yourself toppings) as well as beer and wine. The best part is you can see films here that arent going to play elsewhere oftentimes.
Great experience! First time going and they have a clean facility and comfortable seats. Best part, you can drink beer while watching the movie!
The film choices are the best in Columbia...unique, cutting edge, and diverse. Wine and beer available for enjoyment during the feature. I enjoy the introduction to the film by the knowledgeable Nick staff. All around- cool place!
This theater is definitely a classic! I love the authenticity of an older movie theater! Excellent service and a great experience!
I like it because they play a diverse selection of movies. The staff are friendly especially Deb.
Great staff and wonderful films!
Such an amazing place and experience. The mission of this theatre to give back and get kids interested in performing arts is fantastic. Must go!
Its a small theater, but thats what youd expect from an independent theater! I love their film offerings, its so nice to have a place to see special showings and indie films. The location is perfect and the price is too--$9 for a movie!! I want to go every week.
Always good. Mary Queen of Scots well done. Acting, cinematography beautiful.
The best movie theatre in Columbia. The concession are cheaper than big chains. The popcorn is great. They also have beer and wine if you are into having a drink during a movie. This is place to come if you want to see an special screening of an old movie or the latest indie film.
Greatest art house theater!
Great movies..seating kinda tight!
It´s really one of the main attractions in Columbia, SC. The movies are usually great and the Indie Grits Festival is excellent, thanks to the vision of Larry Hambree and Andy Smith.
GREAT theatre! Love the quality of movies they show and also their work within the community hosting various events! Highly recommend!
Great small (2 show rooms) local movie theater! Wine, beer, popcorn... Yearly memberships with great benefits. Street parking. Love to come here!
Great programming. You get the opportunity to see things here that you cant see anywhere else. I love it every time I go.
Great Art House theater, the only one in SC. They get all sorts of indie films. They let you bring in Ive cream from Sweet Cream which is a few store fronts up Main. Easy parking either on the street or in one of the Taylor Street garages. If you want a drink with your movie, they serve beer and wine, plus popcorn, candy, and baked goods. Get your tickets early as the theater is popular and may sell out. Always a good time.
Great selection of films that arent playing at the bigger theaters.
Best Theater in Columbia SC. See what you won’t at large theaters. Perfect spot for movie and drinks.
We love the Nick. We have been members for a few years now and a trip to the Nick is always a favorite date night. They show great new movies that you wouldnt see in the big theaters; have special events with local filmmakers; and do great educational series with speakers from USC. The popcorn is always tasty and they have a nice little beer and wine selection too. The matinee price is great too.
Great small, local theatre in downtown Columbia, SC showing different movies. Wonderful atmosphere.
Great documentary on the Carolina Chocolate Drops! Thank you for bringing it to us.
This is a beautiful old movie theater that has been restored. It has a large screen very comfortable seating. Its more like sitting in the balcony then in a regular theater that you see today.
Super friendly, helpful, diverse staff. Clean and niche. Theyve never shown a movie I wouldnt want to see! Best place to see independent films in Columbia. I also love that they serve local beer.
Best movie house in the Midlands for independent, novel, local and timely movies. Wonderful community member!
Great place to catch a movie and have a glass of wine with fairly priced popcorn. Very considerate clientele and WONDERFUL staff.
My go to theater in Columbia. Only two screens, but they pick their movies really well. Hosts loads of special events and has great food and drink options.Staff is super friendly and the crowd they draw is wonderful. Never had a phone interupt a screening, never had much chatter.Absolutely recommend seeing a film here, even if you dont know what youre going to see. You wont be disappointed with what theyre showing.
Wonderful art house theatre. Modern and comfortable.
One of my fav places in Columbia! Enjoy the best movies in a cool atmosphere with a glass of wine! Staff is great. Get the membership to enjoy discounts and support the theatre. I Stan the Nick!
Outstanding. The only place to see the movies if you dont want to hear chatter.
Great movies and outstanding events that add culture to the city.
A fantastic local theater that shows an array of film genres - Oscar-nominated, foreign, artsy, indie, documentaries, LGBQT, dance, low-brow, etc. The entire staff is amazingly knowledgeable about film and so friendly. Refreshments include beer and wine in addition to your regular movie theater options. Oh, and they have the best popcorn (free on Wednesdays for members)!
Love the mission of the Nick. Plus beer in a theater rocks
This private local theatre in the heart of downtown has its own charm. Small theatres with a flexibility of having a drink while watching a movie. And those special screenings of documentaries, short films and of course regular ones too.
A wonderful quaint theatre! I love their variety of independent films and the local offerings at concessions!
One of the best things in Columbia. Crowd is hip, beer is cold and the films are amazing.
I love the Nick. The staff is always so friendly and the movie experience is top notch.
Greatest movie theater in Columbia. Two screens. Fantastic popcorn. Exceptional movies. Sponsors a movie festival every year. Concessions offers special craft beers and a variety of wines. Short films, animation films and many other theme based nights and series are offered, like the Jewish film week, horror genre late night, erc.
