A great spot just to unwind and overall relax.I love to walk and jog here, then sit on the bench, or put a blanket on the grass and just enjoy the lakefront breeze.I also love just looking onto the distance and see downtown Chicago on 1 side, Indiana on the other, and then very far in the distance you can see Michigan City on a clear day, and even better @ night since you can see lights very far in the distance looking out onto Lake Michigan.Last time I went there was some sort of video shoot where it was extremely crowded on the street, but not too much crowding in the actual park. But usually its not overcrowded which I love.
A very nice wide open green space with paved walking/biking trail. Reminds me of Northerly Island being returned to nature after commercial use.I loved all the nice informational signs about the old steel mill and Chicago’s Burnham plan for the Lakefront.I also love the irony of old “small” steel mill equipment on display and across the lake in Indiana modern, much larger, steel mills can be seen.
Having visited this area since US41 was re-routed thru the US Steel Industrial District, it has been transformed into a part of the Wild Life Restoration area. Native plants, bird & insect habitat/migration, is gradually recovering. Peaceful bench seating allows reflection. No shelter or restroom facilities. Cell service is good, CPD presence: regular patrols.
First time in this part of the city in ages. Perfect place to walk your dog, jog, etc...and it looks like there are big plans for the area. I cant wait to go back.
A beautiful, quiet park with gorgeous lakefront. Really interesting history and good informational signage as well.
It was scary and misty around 5 pm but good place to fish
A lovely little park on the shore of Lake Michigan. Be sure to visit the information boards before walking around the remaining structures of the iron works and the statue in memory of the workers.
Great parking great fishing well maintained good security presence very well pleased
It use to be great but its blocked off limited access
Unfettered shoreline views of Lake Michigan. A little quiet and solitude mixed into the city experience. Climbing wall!
Nice and quiet... Nice bike trail and rock climbing wall
Love the lakefront. Looking forward to see the outcome of the development to be built here.
I think this park is beautiful & quiet, & ducked off in a nice quiet area.
Hidden away from LSD a great place to walk trails along the lake.
Didnt know it was there live here all my life 59 years
Beautiful views of the water, nice walking trails
Quiet. Fantastic fishing spot with diverse wildlife. Nice place to watch the barges come in and out from the river. Also has rock climbing
Southeast sides best kept secret!
A quiet place to walk along the lake
The city did a great job turning the old steel mill grounds into a beautiful lake front retreat. Nice place for a walk or just sit by the lake. The historical remnants of the old mill displayed like artwork, along with the posted history and waking path is a really nice touch.
Great and peaceful park!! My family and I are here a few times a week for our daily walk. I wish it was more here besides the beautiful landscape.. Shout out to Roman for such a unique statue
Undiscovered gem on the Chicago Southside. Old factories being converted into public spaces. Thrilled to see this developed further.
Beautiful up and coming park.
Beautiful park along Lake Michigan in Chicago.
I pray one day they start developing this area, its really a nice area. It would be nice to have this part of the lake more accessible. I hope sooner than later. Its a very quiet relaxing peaceful area with lots of potential
Beautiful park and views of lake
So quiet! Enjoy this park before the surrounding land gets developed. Great place for a picnic or to just sit and watch the lake.
Kool Park that I didnt see before. Would be interesting to explore in the spring and summer
Peaceful place.
Clear blue water, peaceful area,so much potential!
Wow, what a gem! I decided to change up my bike riding routine and stumbled upon this beautiful park. Really secluded and peaceful.
Quiet and beautiful!
Adrenaline was pumping just from watching people climb the wall
A really nice hidden gem in the city. I recommend biking here by taking the lakeshore trail as far as it will take you and then making your way through the surrounding neighborhoods. There isn’t much infrastructure here in terms of a typical park. However, the ruins of the steel mill are unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. The remaining concrete walls are longer than the Sears Tower is tall and it’s breathtaking to check them out.
I love this park. Rock climbing, bird sanctuary, beautiful artwork. Great space. Great place. Excellent view.
Lovely view of Lake Michigan. Great path to have a brisk walk and benches to sit. Sit, have lunch, and feel the breeze.
Great fishing and cool spot to visit.
Beautiful views of the lake
Serene.
Absolutely beautiful place to walk and enjoy the scenery. I urge all my fellow south Chicagoans and east siders to come visit before the yuppies make it impossible to enjoy it.
Usually not crowded, has Rock climbing with auto belay, but not accessible.
Love the history of this place nice lakefront view
Its a very interesting place to visit. I loved it.
The park was fantastic, and its amazing that the community natives do not take advantage of such an amenity.
Beautiful place for history and romance. A friend brought me there and I enjoyed and relaxed and learned at the same time. Very peaceful. LOVELY VIEW OF THE LAKE AND BOATS.
Very Nice
Most under-known-about great park in Chicago.
Its a really nice peaceful park to walk at and enjoy the scenery
Beautiful and serene
The park is very beautiful. When youre there you can feel the history that made the place what it is today. Ive noticed that especially during winter one can still smell the iron and steel. Its also great for recreational activities.
Really neat place. The wall is so cool to walk on and around, although the constant security is a little weird. Definitely a great spot to explore if you get the chance.
Steelworkers Park is dedicated to steelworkers, who used to be work in US Steel plant. Steel plants former territory is private property, but park is public and small part of plants wall is also public and there is a new climbing infrastructure
Nice but need washroom
Today, August 20th, 2017, Steelworkers Park was, for the third year in a row, privileged to host Chicago Shakespeare Theatre in the Park. With the lake at its side and no playing fields, it is a serene setting for one of the citys most precious cultural gifts. The ore walls shown above, remnants of steel production in South Chicago, provide a protective and awesome backdrop. All that and free parking. Surely, this is bliss.Kevin Murphy
Great view, a very cool idea that they transformed this historical industrial site into a park
The repurposing of the land here at steelworkers Park has been time and money well spent for the south side of Chicago. A park with just as much grass and Beauty as all the others while being bordered by lakefront and the skeleton spines of the steelworkers past.
Very relaxing environment!
Even though its a park, one can feel the history here. I hope there is more to come.
Hidden gem rustic lakefront stroll with a touch of Southside history
Nice park for a walk. They also have a advanced rock climbing wall..
This is a great place to meditate, walk the dog, enjoy nature. Its rarely populated and has great views of the lake and Indian Industrial shoreline. Great for private picnics as well.
Its very quiet. But you can hear the lake sounds when youre close to the water and hear the seagulls too. The birds also sung beautifully. I recommend visiting the park.
A nice relaxing time by the lake BBQ you can also climb the wall
Nice view of Lake Michigan was disappointed no picnic tables or benches to sit on
A must see and do kind of spot. Peaceful. Great place to get your exercise on, or a quiet picnic.
Great place to visit.
Nice and quiet peaceful place for a walk and bike riding looking forward for finishing project on the lakefront
Great place to sit and relax. A little hard to find, but very quiet.
Cool park. The transformation is unreal. Neat urban decay in it.
Its a great place for workouts and pets. Hope it can be kept clean.
Great park to go and get away from the bustle of the neighborhood. I take morning walks that are quiet and peaceful and helps me to clear my mind.
Beautiful outdoor space
Its grate
Lovely place to visit nice walking pass
My mother and grandfather worked here
Wall climbing, events and near the lake, I seen people fishing
Not too many people know about this park so its very peaceful.
Me and my guy loves it there.
Under the radar, under used, under developed. Yet great place to fly kites, RMC planes, walk the dog.
Beautiful and you must see it for yourself. Rock climbing!!!!
I love it! Nice place to get away from everything.
Has a few benches no tables has a climbing wall no one there to oversee it
