Adorable! Definitely worth a spin around inside. Really unassuming from the street but really lovely. Great gift shop too, especially around the holidays.
Very interesting for those of us with swedish ancestry. Lots of Swedish artifacts and memorabilia.
Great place to learn about the heritage and history of the Swedes who emigrated to America, during the turn of the century. A place that not only offers a good cozy little museum but also a nice couple of stores that celebrates the rich heritage of Scandinavia as a whole.
Fun and safe place for children to play. Great exhibits and space for community gatherings.
Saw A Little Night of Nordic Music here. It was amazing! I cant wait to come again next year. The venue is lovely. The performances were breathtaking! Youve gotta check it out!
A small, but very well put together museum honoring both the Swedish culture, and the journey the Swedes took to the New World. Very educational, and had a great time. Excited to see the remodel this upcoming January!
I and my little ones love it--local history, a place to play and learn, great events.
Stopped by for a visit, small but interesting museum to learn more about the Swedish emigration to this part of the US. Friendly staff and some areas for the kids as well. Can recommend a visit if youre already in the area.
We visited during the Saint Lucia festival for our nieces program. It has a great meeting/program room and we learned a lot.
This place is such a gem for families with small children. The play area reminds me slightly of WonderWorks over on North Avenue, but its so much closer to our house and just the right size for a long lazy afternoon. Its always so delightful to see children engaged in imaginative play, a great place for parents to chill out while we smirk watching our children plant, farm, and tend to the homestead.
We were greeted by an super friendly and helpful lady at the front desk. The exhibits and their descriptions were very well built and maintained. It amazes me how well the space was used to convey a story that dates back a 100 years or so. Thank you for the hospitality!!
Very nice and tidy place. The lady at the front was very helpful and it was very nice experience. Would visit again and recommend to friends.
I would have loved to see the swedish bakery added as a part of the museum
It was a nice stay I was there for a while but they lacked having much things there it would be better if they had more exhibits it was very small but it was a fine stay.
Childrens museum has excellent hands on learning.
It tells a very compelling story of immigration to Chicago. Great gift shop too.
This is a great facility. I was there for a book reading, which took place in the main gallery. The current exhibit includes some terrific large paintings, art that I look forward to revisiting. The museum offers some lively activities, targeted to both kids and adults. While many have a Swedish theme, others have a broader focus.Im looking forward to becoming more actively engaged in the museum - and to seeing more of what is offered.
The heart of Andersonville. Always something fun going on.
The best thing was that one of them could speak Swedish (good cuz then I could speak Swedish with her)
A cute museum with interesting history and culture. Spent a short time in this museum exploring the immigration history of the Swedes moving to America. This history is detailed on the wall and displayed with a wooden boat to represent their voyage to America and the farms and houses they built while they settled down. Besides tracing a history of how they immigrated here, the ship, the houses, the farm wagons and etc on display are available for the children to explore and play on. I especially love how this museum is rich with history of years gone past, and it recaptures how lives used to be. This is a great place to bring your children here to have hands on fun and also educational at the same time, while also exploring a migrants history and culture!
Grat place to visit for all things Sweden. Check out the gift shop. Superior neighbor to andersonville allowing townhalls, voting and a host of things to go on in their main hall. They keep Andersonville honest to its Swedish heritage
A great institution to visit, explore and cherish, for those with Scandinavian heritage or those interested in exploring the history of immigrants to Chicago and America.
Loved it. Anyone who has a chance to go and visit this place the entrance for adults is only $4. There are usually exhibitions of Swedish artists as well, entrance is included in the price.
I stopped in during the Midsommarfest to check it out. Its a small museum with gift shop, but the information feels relevant and personal. If your family is a swedish origin, and living in the United States, it is an interesting stop.
Great museum for kids. Friendly staff.
This place is remarkable. Took a group of middle school students (90% boys) there and they adored the experience. Then took the nieces and nephews (ages 3-6) and they adored it too. Its a fantastic place!
Employees so nice and helpful. Clean place and interesting displays. And they have their own parking lot across street and around corner ! So nice!
Great for its material, its a nice thing to stroll through on a cold weekday.
Brought back all the stories my Swedish immigrant grandparents told me. Great shop, too!
When voting at this site, there was no soap in the mens room.
What a cool place. Small but full of sceneries.
Had a wonderful time here touring the museum and having breakfast with Tomten. The upstairs kids area is fun!
Great staff (Karen is the most dedicated and hard working currator youll ever meet) with dedicated volunteers who are so helpful. The museum offers great neighborhood events, Swedish language classes and really help define the attitude of Andersonville. A must visit for anyone exploring this awesome neighborhood.
Ive walked by the museum so many times and I want bother to go inside. However, exhibits are both factual and fun. Id completely recommend visiting
Was able to go for free through the Smithsonian Museum Day promotion. The museum was a beautiful, informative installation regarding the Swedish immigrants experience in America and Chicago.
Great, cheap and lots of information about swedish culture and scandinavians.
A great place to spend 30 minutes. The immigration museum is an Andersonville must-see. However, theres not really enough to make this a destination all-its-own.
Great museum to learn Bout Swedish heritage and historically important dates.
Great little museum, the swedes have a really interesting history in America and Chicago. Some nice exhibits. Went on a free day - they have quite a few of those - but it would actually be worth the money to see. Cute little gift shop. Also they have some nice Christmas events there.
Lived in Chicago for 10 years and never went to this museum. Finally made it during a trip to visit my sister and was pleasantly surprised. Very cute museum, good history of Sweden and the immigration to Chicago. Loved to exhibits and the docent was very friendly
The museum is a great reminder of what it was like at the beginning of Chicagos history. Contributions by Swedish immigrants to the making of the midwest region are many. This is a beautiful small museum that is well organized and nicely staffed. I will visit again.
This is my favorite place to take kids. The Brunk Children Museum of Immigration provides the best hands on experience for children to visually and physically learn about the means and (albeit romantic) realities of American immigrants to the Midwest. Get the family pass for the year if you live in easy driving distance, its well worth it and you will find yourself going more frequently than you think
I adore this place and come every time Im in Chicago.
Really good experience. Great for kids too.
Everyone is so friendly and knowledgeable. Great place to visit
Upstairs is immigrant themed kids play place, excellent for young kids.
Great Museum!Im glad I went. The exhibits were done well and were interesting, I loved seeing the Christmas folk art! Great Location on Clark in quaint little Andersonville.Parking of course was a little challenging and surrounding sidewalks were slippery, but at $4 per adult its a fun way to spend a afternoonA must see for all Swedes!
The childrens museum on the third floor is great on a rainy day. Friendly staff and interesting rotating exhibits and programs.
Very helpful knowlegable staffWorth seeing
Excellent place to bring the kids to learn about sweedish culture and have fun. They can sail on the boat, farm in the fields or visit the moon. Everything swedish and everything fun. Plus theyve got a parking lot.
Definitely more interesting than i thought it would be. Great kids museam on the top floor. Might become a go to spot for us on bad weather days.
Cool little museum. Some nice art, learned about the history of Andersonville and the swedish population in chicago. Worth a visit.
The children’s museum on the third floor is a hidden gem. Never too crowded and my toddler loves exploring all of the different areas/activities.
Great for kids stepping back in time
Be sure to check out the art gallery and the childrens museum!
The Childrens Museum of immigration on the third floor is an amazing Play Place Hands On Learning Experience.
Wonderful place and organization. A real staple of Andersonville and a wonderful place to visit. Become a member and youll have discounted events and a plethora of options.
Pretty unique. The mannequins upstairs are great!
The staff here is super friendly and informative. I would definitely go back.
Very informative. Staff very friendly.
THere is an excellent childrens museum on t he top floor. My daughter likes that you can dress up and pretend that you are coming across on a ship. There are several different things to see and do. I recommend this museum for everyone with small children.
Brilliant cultural center full of information on Swedish immigration to Chicago. The gift shop has Swedish candy!!
Located in a busy Andersonville neighborhood, this small museum is surrounded by small retail shops, eateries, and bars! Ive always passed this establishment up partly due to all the meter parking vs free parking in the area. I was told this museum has its own lot and have to register the car in the front desk. Well if its free, its for me I always say!Upon entry, the museum store is to the left and pay admission fee. We passed up in buying trinkets, makes sure you check out the Christmas clearance rack, dalas, peppi longstockings, and chocolates! The 2rd floor is the exhibits section. I love the replica Viking ships, and the life like mannequins. Too dark and creepy for my 4 year old, she believes these were real! I also love the religious section that has the wedding crowns. The 3rd floor is a interactive part of museum, better known as Brink Childrens Museum of Immigration, where we spent the most time. My daughter opted out wearing the old fashioned Swedish costume for her pretend play. The props I found cute were water pump, washboard, cream separator, fishing poles with magnetic fishes, gardens, and Dala horse! The 3rd floor is divided into 5 sections: 1.) Swedish farm 2.) Ticket booth to a steamship 3.) Viking ship 4.) Inside a Apollo 11 space mission. Wait, what?!?! I thought the space mission section was pretty random until I found out that the 2nd person to set foot on the moon (Buzz Aldrin) is the grandchild of Swedish-American immigrants.I applaud if you read this far of my review: Other random facts about Buzz Aldrin: he was the first to urinate on the moon and the first to perform communion on the moon-at least according to the Swedish American Museum brochure.
The museums main display is the story of Swedish immigration to America, it highlights why Swedes made the trip. Its moderately interesting. The current rotating exhibition is Skal
Neat museum. Lots of interesting artifacts. Explains background of Swedish migration well.
A wonderful museum of Scandinavian culture with the first Childrens Museum in the US dedicated to immigration.
This is an excellent museum to bring your family and learn from...this museum gives back to the community which I love and admire...
Very interesting and everyone was so nice
Pretty sizeable space. Decent exhibit and friendly staff.
Great exhibits, a hidden gem in the city.
Very informative.
I was at a wedding a the Swedish American Museum. The gallery space was beautiful. I went into the kitchen just after the dinner and was really shocked to see how dirty the kitchen was. It made me worried about eating food from the kitchen. The caterers said the kitchen was in bad shape when they arrived with dirty counters, and tables, and with really, really dirty trash cans.
Had a lot of fun with my 2 boys
Meeting with alderman. Waste of time.
Love the childrens museum!
Lovely little museum, and a wonderful showcase of the Swedish heritage in the US, and Andersonville.
Beautiful place with a nice little area for kids to play
Great and fun place for the kids. Hidden jem.
Great place, lots of original items, cheap.
Wonderful gift shop with great service
Great area for kids to play!
Nice place, lots of good history.
Always a great place to visit
School!
Best Swedish Museum not in Sweden!
If your forbears came to the US from Sweden, The Swedish American Museum is a must visit.
I got married here. It was great!
Great museum
