Went here for a quick Sunday evening stroll. It takes about an hour to walk the loop at a leisurely pace. Parking is weird, its $2.50 for one hour but then like $30 for anything greater than an hour...The island itself is quite scenic for the skyline views but the path needs some work. The path that follows the shoreline (east side) is non-existent and consists of mainly large rock barriers. Easy enough to navigate with good shoes but kids and dogs might have a hard time. Definitely no strollers or bikes on that side. The path thats on the other side (west side) is paved and in much better condition. There are also weird run down construction sites for large gatherings (tents or stages?) that destroys the natural beauty of the island.Overall, not too bad but not necessarily a place to re-visit due to the path and abandoned construction sites. The area by the museums/planetarium is much better.
Beautiful views! Foghorns! The Golden Gate Bridge! Lands End checks off plenty of items for a tourist visiting the city. There are easy to moderate options for exploring so you can plan a quick or long hike. Walking through parts of the path felt immediately remote and engulfed by nature steps from our car. At the visitors center there is access to restrooms and a really nice array of touristy items you actually want to buy. We didnt have time to visit all the sites and will come back.
A quiet place, save for the hum and buzz of the local wildlife, and even with the engine noises of boats or helicopters...its still possible to hear your own heart beat.A walkthrough can be done with a little bit of effort, and the views looking out into the middle horizon of the lake versus the sweeping skyline vista are worth the time.
The best hidden park in Chicago, though it doesnt allow dogs...that is most probably to protect the geese. Avoid geese bombs and you will have a magnificent time. A little slice of deep dish heaven.
I remember when this place used to be Meigs Field and we took airplane pilot lessons back there. Of course that was almost 25 years ago and today I went back there for the first time in over 20 years and it actually looks good you could take your family back there or your lady. Its a beautiful scenery!
Beautiful, relaxing place to go for a walk/picnic. When Covid is not around there is concerts and other events
Virtually empty.Dress warm and walk it on a cold winters day.
Eay trail with awesome views. Start from Chicago, IL, end near Golden Bridge
Me and my grandchild love Northerly Island. During this pandemic its just a great place to get awayand enjoy the nature preserves.
Great place to ride bikes! Get away from the crowds and see Chicago from an entirely unique perspective.
Drive in concert, was good. Having to pay a huge tip on Merch was ridiculous.
This is my office. With beauty comes work. There are worse places to work.
Need a bit of help from people to clean up after their pets, but it is great in summer time.
Just had a picnic lunch with this great view!!
Great place to bird watch we have been long time birders and this is a great place
A nice piece of nature south to the Chicago loop. The sight of downton from here, at nigh, is great.
If you have family in town or are coming into town for a long-weekend, try to find a way to make it out to this point on the South-side of the city. Multiple ways to get there: public transport, walk/run, and biking/divvying. The view is spectacular and is one of the great places to watch a sunset over the city. Grab a couple bottles of wine, snacks, and enjoy!
Polar adventure day. It wasnt snowing, so no snow shoes. We saw a pelican, falcons, owls, a wolf and a few other critters. On a quick hike we saw a few birds of prey flying overhead.
NI is serene, soothing and spiritual. When you go there, just take your time.
Really well located just off downtown yet incredibly inefficient ingress and egress plus decision to place it on a Traffic less peninsula pretty much cancels out that benefit. Still better than Alpine or Tinley but when you have a 30 minute walk to get to an uber then something is pretty bad in the design and planning!! Please fix it.
Best secret gem in Chicago, another world in the city.
Not very good for landing aircraft anymore. Its doable though.
Hamilton exhibit in the temporary building. Very nice setup.
Awesome concert on lake shore drive in
Gorgeous views of the city and nice walking path.
Its one of those places ya just have to go to actually appreciate it, we went just to enjoy the beautiful day and ride bikes....weve been there for multiple music concerts as well and everytime we go its an absolute blast everytime, such a beautiful area and so much fun stuff to do and see all in one little area! Go check it out!!
Loved this spot. Im not sure I even want to leave a review, because thats how gems get discovered but this place is nice, quite and beautiful (at least the day I went!) And plan on returning soon.
Northerly Island is a 91-acre artificially created peninsula along Chicago Lake Michigan lakefront. It is the site of the Adler Planetarium, connected to the mainland through a narrow isthmus along Solidarity Drive. Previously, it included Meigs Field airport but since the dramatic airport closure it has become part of the museum campus. Great use of public space in a park like setting, it features various exhibits, amenities and facilities for all to enjoy. Parking, however, is limited.
Great nature experience in the heart of the city
Very nice piece of land reclaimed by the city. Big concert venue but I will hopefully never use the lawn because you cannot see the performance and the sound is delayed. Many tourist boats take a ride around the island to see the wetlands and views of the city.
A great nature/bike trail to the southern end across from McCormick Place. A prairie grass natural restoration is in progress throughout and it is beautiful. A wonderful place to get away from it all. Hamilton closed 8/25/2019.
Nice little enclave within the large city of Chicago. I wish it was still an airport as there was NOBODY on Northerly Island when I visited. The Hamilton Exhibition building was clearly placed to ensure the island would never be used as an airport again.
Good place to teg away for a bit
Amazing place to visit
Peaceful Beautiful Views Of Downtown Get Your Camera Ready
Awesome place
I didnt realize that Northerly Island had so much to offer! Right now they have a Hamilton Exhibit but there are nature trails and its very pretty. My son is there for the park district summer camp. Hes only 6 so I was worried about him but he loves it. They go fishing, field trips, and beach Fridays. Definitely a summer hit!
Awesome place to hang out. Any part of the museum campus really.
Beautiful place
We were there for day and spent good time on the walkways. Though it was cold but enjoyed the time there with family. Parking was available only for eateries we had to walk for while. Good place for day outing with kids and family. Ideal for elderly people too.
Enjoy walking around the waterfront here. There is also a beach and close to the museums.
Movies in the park was an excellent experience. Thank you M&M Mars and other sponsrrs for the goodies and refreshments.
Awsome food and people
Nice to chill out.
The month of February was freeVery friendly staffVery enjoyable day
Place is kind of a mess. Went for the Hamilton exhibition. The exhibit was decent but overpriced. Parking worked out ok although that was mostly luck as they were pretty empty. Didnt see anything else of interest. Liked it better when it was an airport.
Hamilton exhibition was wonderful! All ages should check k it out. So much to know about our own country!Only until 2020.
Love coming here to hang out with good people, good place to find parking as well when going to the museums. beautiful scenery
Northerly Island is excellent!! Nice with great views of the city!
It is a nice outdoor concert venue with awesome acoustics!
Nice little place to go and walk. The entrance I used to use is closed. You have to go around another way.
Very fun place w beatifull views make sure u find ur way 2 very tip of island. Fr hill & best views this is a view from top of highest hill allthe way at the end
Its great for children to sail. I have been here twice and enjoy looking at the many boats that people own.
A peaceful spot, reserved for nature with a nice path for us.
Some of the best memories of my life. Go! Go now! What are you waiting for?
Good view of Chicagos skyline
Ive always enjoyed events at Northerly. Always.I remember when it was an airport and was sad when it closed BUT the venue that is it now is organized, convenient AFFORDABLE parking.I was going to uber to avoid parking and if I had I wouldve ended up paying double.Parking is a big thing here.Staff are freindly and seem to enjoy being there as much as patrons.
Visited the Hamilton Exhibit which was very well done. Parking and shuttles were great.
Nice place to spend the whole day. Public parking $20 for the day. Go to the beach or museums walk by the lake
A beautiful example of Illinois prairie landscape.
Went on vacation with my family and had a great time at the beach and the water was so beautiful and calm. Had a great time noone wanted to go home.
Perfect park for a walk or bike ride.
Had a great day bike riding in here last summer. Hope to again when Chicago has some dry days. :) Beautiful place.
It use to be better before they started building a bunch of buildings and stadiums there. It was so serene now it has kind of ruined the ambience it once had.
The service was impeccable and the food was amazing. They figured out we were celebrating our anniversary so they even gave us a lovely goblet of ice cream for dessert!!!
Nice and quiet of Chicago wonderfull to see the skyline from that perspective.
Very very nice place to visit once
Simply said, beautiful!
A must for any traveler- heres the best place to take a beautiful selfie with Chicago skyline on the background :)
Beautiful place. We had a Special Olympics event there.
Very beautiful, great view of the lake anf the citys outline.
It was better when it was Meigs Field!
Hamilton: The Exhibition was a stimulating, educational and visually playful. A must see for those who enjoy history and Hamilton.
Amazing park, so beautiful to see all the wild flowers and birds/butterflies.
Its nice at night
First time walking the trail! Very nice. Next time, we want to check out the old airport.
Saw a music show here..awesome lakeside setting in the city
I love cruising around Echo Park lake and checking out the turtles, geese, ducks, and other birds.. theres always people watching to be done as well
Amazing view
Nice to hike around right on the lake. Great views of the city!
Very nice area with small beach. Parking is $20 for non Bears game day. There is public transportation. There are occasional weirdos...some girl sat by where we had our stuff and look through our stuff. Maybe not a weirdo but just a thief
HAMILTON THE EXHIBITION!!! Wonderful, great, amazing!! Its only there until August 25 (2019), so hurry & go see it!!!
We were there for the F1 fan fest. It was so awesome to experience those cars.

Nice little general store. Decent food, as well.
