Excellent Customer service. Young man there with slight Geechee accent is an excellent resource, and gave us great tour suggestions. Highly recommend this be a first stop before deciding what to do.
Had to pay to park??? However, they did offer free shuttle buses to town. So, I guess its a trade off. If you didnt ride the bus, though, you are still paying for parking so, still back to you have to pay to park. Employees were not real helpful but, bathrooms were clean. Nice facility.
Helpful to visitors. The best place to book local tours to fascinating places in the lowcountry.
Very nice facility and a very hospitable staff that is eagerly ready to assist you. We signed up for the Gullah tour and enjoyed it immensely! The tour guide was phenomenal and the 2-hour tour was incredible! The history surrounding Charleston is immense and the incredible depth of knowledge that they display surrounding their history is very humbling. We will definitely visit again.
Great first stop with the free 211 bus route to the downtown loop at the side street with safe parking at $2 an hour. It is also across the street from the Charleston Museum and our favorite house to tour is a block away, the preserved but unrestored Aiken-Rhett House Museum. Discount tickets can be purchased here. There are clean public restrooms and a nice introductory displays on the history of Chaleston.
Excellent people working at the center. They helped us figure where we were supposed to meet up with our tour guide and how to get back to our car by explaining about the downtown shuttle which we knew nothing about. The next day, we went back and the lady there was able to get us tickets that the hotel for whatever reason couldnt print out for us. Very knowledgeable people working there.
Very nice visitors center. Helpful, courteous staff. Currently being remodeled so we had to avoid construction crew. Never been a fan of visitor centers where you have to pay to park. Like paying admission to get information!
Very helpful courteous staff!!! They always greet me every time I come in to use their nice, clean restrooms.
Very helpful staff. One stop shopping for tour ideas, food ideas, lodging, boarding for tours, boarding for free city shuttle, and all other attractions and information about Charleston.
At the visitor center, you can have most if not all of your questions answered about what to do with your time in Charleston. Plenty of literature on hand to take with you regarding any specific interest you may have. Plus, the staff here can probably get you on a tour that you may not have known about otherwise.
Very nice with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great place to start your Charleston visit.
We were sightseeing in Charleston.. It was a very interesting city with a lot of history.. Enjoyed our tour..
Brand new visitor center. Looks amazing and the staff are very knowledgeable. They provided us with a map and explained the city layout and the best things to experience. Thank you!
Remodeled R R warehouse as Visitors Center.Very interesting workers, Randy helped explain places to go and great trip planner. Thank you.
Visitor Center was nice enough, pretty typical. Disappointed that parking was $1 per half hour. A bargain in Charleston, but didnt expect it at Visitor Center.
A very wide spectrum of info. Great help
Under renovation. A smaller version is located across the street. It has a small train museum that is nice. We did obtain useful information there.
The Visitor Center is incredible for information, light shopping and reservations. It should be your first stop when visiting Charleston.
Has everything from history to food to brochures to films. Wonderful place.
Nicely laid out, tons of good info, really like the displays and educational kiosks.
Worth the stop, its in an old trolley building bldg, original architecture.
A surprisingly informative visit plus open as of late September. Friendly folks there who gave us directions on where to go with limited time in town.
Had the best tour that left from here. The Gullah Tour given by Mr. Brown.
Beware RVers, this city does not cut all the trees high enough and you can find yourself in a pinch. I believe a visitor center should be finding parking for RVers. 1 hour non-residential parking in this area. Stay on major roads with stop lights.
Huge, but closed for renovation, although a small temporary visitor facility may be nearby. Find out where before you show up! We didn’t think to check. Google will be very helpful in that situation. Unexpected treat: We found Mid-size Gray Line excursion buses parked nearby. We got a great 90-minute excursion at very low cost. The driver/guide was knowledgeable, helpful, witty, and full of interesting information. So all turned out well, despite no visitors’ center!
I learned a lot when I went on my trip.
I would highly recommend making this your first stop for your visit in Charleston. There is parking available here, I believe 30 mins are free after that $2 per half hour. The tour buses leave directly from here also. We took the 1.5 hour history tour, it was $20 each if I recall correctly. We found this was great to get our bearings. It also was great at giving us an understand of how the city was started and to see all the sights and decide what we wanted to see more of.
Small offering of items for sale and very expensive. Did not use visit planning service.
Place to go for many different tours.
Visitor center for the City of Charleston SC In a centric location, great place to park your car and be to walking distance of all the attractions near downtown area and king street, they have some great art display and history regarding the city of Charleston, there is also a scale map of the city of Charleston and surrounding areas, this is a must stop to find all the attraction info in the city.
Very informative gentleman working there
Very thick and dry biscuit!! Just kept on falling apart!! Not enjoyable!! We tried different ones and all of them just fell apart!! I don’t live in the state, we were just here for a cruise!! I found this place online few months prior, so we were excited about trying this place!! Very disappointed and $20 was wasted!
Well done. Friendly staff. Clean and interesting. For first timers, make it your first stop for tour advice and tickets to attractions. Took an air conditioned van tour of the city. It included history as well as pointing out points of interest you might like. There is a free shuttle thats easy to hop. So, if you want to hop off your tour ride early, you can, then catch the free shuttle back to your car at the Visitors Center.
Staff very helpful! My mom is handicapped and they were helpful finding great places for us to go that were easy for her to access.
Whether its your first time to Charleston or youve been here for years, youre sure to benefit from a visit to the Visitors center. First off, its a beautifully designed, open and bright, and very adequately air conditioned building, which can be a life saver in the heat of a Charleston simmer day. Theres parking here, and its a great place to begin a tour of the city. While youre at the centre, theres plenty to see and learn about the great holy city. Take in a free historical movie, or watch one of the local sweet grass basket Weavers ply their trade and skill. They have a nice display of items for purchase if youre so inclined. Overall, just a real nice place to visit.
Very nice modern facilities.
The Charleston Visitor Center is beautifully laid out with various types of art. The information counter is always occupied with the nicest folks you would like to meet! Restroom are available for both genders. The signage was clear to see from the from the roadway. Handicap restroom are accessible. When visiting Charleston, a beautiful city, you would be disappointed if you did not visit The Charleston Visitor Center.
Poor parking options for RVs, even a small one.
They’re in the middle of a remodel right now (early 2020) but everyone has been great here, the restrooms are clean, people are helpful giving visitors local tips.Vacationers to Charleston should stop here first to help plan their visit.
Met here for a gullah tour which was awesome
Helpful for visitors.
Lots of tour information. Clean bathrooms in a city that has few public restrooms. Large parking garage nearby with reasonable rate.
New facilities with knowledgeable and helpful staff
My experience wasnt great....Its really hard to find. Since its under construction there is a temporary area in the back. You do have to pay for parking $1 for every half hour, not very welcoming if you ask me. I finally find the joint and the employees were loud and obnoxious. Laughing and carrying on like it was some sort of social gathering. I didnt get asked once if I needed some assistance. That ticked me off because thats the point of a visitor center to help people in your city.So after grabbing some brochures I asked about the plantations. Which one would be best to see if I could only do one? I got they are all pretty good, pretty much the same type of thing. Thats all I got on that. Restaurants? I got. It depends in what you like to eat, she started to list off names but, I had no idea where or what any of them were. I gave up and left. The local people have been more helpful than this place. Wish I could have my $1 back. Worst visitor center by far that I have ever visited.
Everyone there was very friendly. When someone else was waiting, they would yell, I can help you over here. I thought that was great, since I work in customer service. Plenty of brochures on food and things to do. Plus a lady working gave us a map and told us where we could park, of where we wanted to go!
Very helpful staff!
Extremely personable & worldly concierge!~Judgy Joey~
Excellent service and customer service
They offer a variety of tickets and tourist activities. There are plenty of brochures and maps to use and take for free. Inside its air conditioned and there are restrooms and water fountains to use freely. Also, there was a steam powered train on display where you could do a free self guided tour about its history.
Great, friendly & knowledgable staff who will help you cut through the barrage of options to what best suits your fancy & budget. If visiting Charleston, do yourself a favor and be sure to stop here first!!!
Temporarily located next door while they renovate their building. Once the main center is open again back to 5 stars.
Phenomenal information and excellent customer service
The Gullah tour was delightful, enlightening, informative with lots of sights to see. I would recommend it anyone looking to learn more about Charleston.
Great experience at the visitors center. The tour was interesting but not enough stops or information on the city tour. Would be wonderful if they established a hop on, hop off system. Ask lots of questions & definitely plan on two or three days for sight seeing.
Everyone was super helpful and nice.
Friendly & helpful. Made visiting easy. Great ambassadors of the City.
Still under construction, but a beautiful building.
Good customer service when we asked for a map and some directions + opinions.
This is a really nice visitors center. Pretty large, lots of brochures, and a few people who can help you with planning your trip. Look out for brochures from restaurants, as theyll often include a decent coupon
Informative, kind employees, clean.
The Visitor Center is your first stop in Charleston. From inside you can do a little local shopping, speak to a professional on best places to visit, pick up a guide book, and hop on a shuttle that will take you just about anywhere you want to go. People are so nice and friendly!
No information on local entertainment? Asked woman at the information desk that was busy looking at her phone. She told me to look at their one of 4 racks containing hundreds of brochures. When I finally found the theatre I was looking for, it mentioned that I could purchase tickets at the visitors center?! Dont waste your time at the visitors center. Instead go online and search for what you might want to do. These people are not interested in assisting you
Excellent visitor center. The staff is super helpful.
Everyone who works here is amazing and very knowledgeable about everything that is going on in Charleston!
The Visitor Center is undergoing renovation, dont know why, it looked fine the first time I visted a few months ago. They are now housed in the Train museum. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The signage is not as helpful and the parking garage is not easy to find.
Friendly personnel, they helped us quickly book a walking tour and were very helpful. Cute train inside.
They are in a transition process. Very little information is available to take with you. If I could give it negative stars I would have. The two girls there were not too helpful
The staff were so helpful. They helped us book a beautiful room and gave great dining suggestions. So glad we stopped in.
Charming city with lots to do, great parks, restaurants/ bars and shopping, RV parking garage in downtown, bicycle friendly. This is one of our favorite stops.
We picked up visitor guides/brochures in bulk to give out in our welcome bags for our wedding. We called ahead and they let us know we could come in the week of to pick up a couple boxes. I filled out a form for why I was getting the books and they handed over two boxes. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
Stopped in around 2:30 PM July 12 to find out about nearby distilleries and places to eat.Was asked if we were interested in a time share or a cruise. We said no and the person working the desk just left!! Just walked out, gave us the name of a distillery and left! While we were standing there.!!!
With hardly any idea of where to go or what to see upon arriving into town, the local experts here provided great suggestions within a few short minutes!
Friendly and helpful staff
Easy to get help planning trips and sightseeing tours, great reference, should be everyones first stop in the city!
A great place to start out. Centrally located and parking available. You can walk, ride or both and have a safe and fun day. Easy access.
Glad this place exists. Not a whole lot of information as far as history is concerned, but theres comfy chairs, bathrooms, shelter from the weather, plenty of sightseeing/activity brochures, maps, small gift shop, and nice employees to help however they can. Also all the free buses and the airport shuttle stop here. Definitely a good home base for any tourists. Would have appreciated an area with plugs to recharge my phone.
Good people
Great place to start if youve never been to Charleston. its just a bummer though that you have to pay to park. But I understand there would be no parking for those who really needed to get info there if parking were free!
Nice but under construction now.
Closed, open across the street but no signs to indicate that.Terrible publicity for tourist town!I was hosting visitors from Cali and we circled the building in the rain. No only were there no signs, not a staff member was in sight! BAD Charleston!
Very helpful people. Great place to decide what tours to take. You can pick up buses right there!
Excellent visitor center to set you off. Parking provided and tours start from here plus historic house across the road. History exhibit inside too.
The main building is under renovation and so it is around the corner in the railroad museum. The folks were great at providing information.
This was a beautiful space that was easy to navigate and provided a lot of information about both Charleston and the larger area. There are areas of brochures/pamphlets, map guides, helpful staff onsite (one member even helped us book our walking tour), and a welcome video. There is also a gift shop in case you need to pick up a locally made item to take home.
A good mix of exhibits and information on the history and cultures of Charleston SC with a helpful staff to answer your questions
Very helpful center. Discount tickets to many attractions. They can book a hotel. Free bus rides around town. Parking. Free bus rides
Clean bathrooms, first 30 minutes of parking is free, and they have a wealthy of printed and personal suggestions for a great stay in Charleston. The sweet water grass baskets, some created on site, and artwork are beautiful. One day I will be able to afford one of those baskets. It is hard not to want one.
This is the place to go in Charleston for info. Lots & lots of info. Lots of posters, artwork & the such. You can purchase attraction tickets. A lot of tours leave from this location too. Plenty of parking available, restrooms are available & very clean. There is a small gift shop.
Great info and help. Nice people and helpful.
Handsome visitor center in the historic district. Staff was cheerful and helpful. We boarded a bus tour of old Charleston which was fascinating. Lots of college students about. Had a good lunch at the Brick which is in the same complex. Fun stuff.
Took bus tour of the city. Very good
Very good information regarding things to do, tours, restaurants, shopping and hotels. Highly recommend this stop.
I highly recommend going here before touring Charleston. They were very helpful!
One of the easiest spots to find parking around town.
