Great fairly easy clean trail with lots of traffic, foot and bike. Seems like itd be a good one to run in the summer with a friend.
Great variety of trails in your backyard (if you live in Sudden Valley ;-), usually not too busy even if the trailhead parking lot is packed, especially on the trails that are for walkers only. The ‘lookout’ part though is mostly in the name. Hard to see the actual lake these days but that’s ok, just setting expectations accordingly. The walk to the falls is a short and easy start but you can expand as you progress. Simply beautiful!
Wouldnt call myself a fan of hikes but the trail was pretty cool! There are a lot of great views including a waterfall and a view of the valley and Lake Louise, depending on the path you take. A nice way to get into nature and see many outstanding sights. Dogs and bikes are allowed as well, I would recommend to avid hikers or families looking for a simple, short walk.
Only went on smaller hike to a waterfall but will definitely come again and hike to the lookout point!
Pretty cool waterfall for a short hike. Some steeper uphill if you want and allot of easy walking to. Plenty of paths to choose from
A great dog and kid friendly hike, close to town! The trails are well marked and easy for young hikers, the parking lots is a generous size and there are clean restrooms at the trailhead. The waterfall overlook is an easy 1/2 mile hike from the parking lot and is a nice spot to stop for snack and a rest. With two young kids, this is one of our favourite weekend hikes.
New backside trail is gorgeous and soooo quiet! Plus a new downhill exclusive for the MTBs, and a connector to Galbraith.
So much fun! Multiple trails to choose from .
Quick 4.5 mile loop with a bit of incline/decline and a waterfall! If youve only got a couple hours and want to see some wilderness and get your heart rate up a notch, this is the one!
I was there this morning with my dog. Always everything in sudden valley is beautiful & peaceful . Wish the trails had signs with arrows which way is which. I had no cell service n could not pull up map. But...lots of ahhh moments.
Great hike. Lots of trail choices. Well marked. Quiet.
These trails are some of the best in Bellingham, they are easy to access and challenging to climb to the top
Nice hiking area just outside the city limits of Bellingham. From a short walk to a waterfall to a extended hike to the top of Lookout Mt.
Glad to discover this area and look forward to hiking to Lake Whatcom Lookout.
Trails here keep growing! Well maintained and signed.
Its a very beautiful place ice for hiking and enjoying nature and enjoying the peace and quiet!!
Long hike to the top, the trail is steady up, but not steep. View of the ocean and islands is rewarding.
Bellingham, WA hike -Lookout Mountain PreserveEasy hike through the green moss covered woods about 1.5 hours to the Watcom lookout and back. First there is initial 1 mile trail to get to the main trailheads then There is a loop trail about 2 miles and another .4 miles to the lookout. The hike gives some shade but not fully covered so if there is rain you will definitely get wet! It’s fairly easy with gentle climbs to the lookout and due to the tall trees the view wasn’t as great as I pictured but still a great hike meandering through the forest. It is very muddy in the wet months with some permafrost near the top.Value 5/5Atmosphere 4/5Service 4/5Quality 4/517/20
Gorgeous view!! Didnt get to do the full 4 miles but will definitely be back!
We started the walk about 2:30 pm on a lovely Sunday. It is every bit as vigorous a hike as any in the Mount Baker area, as it is a perpetual climb, sometimes 45* sometimes less and sometimes level. The good thing is it is mostly downhill coming back. There is no signage telling you just how far youve walked or which way to go at the Y. Aftger a couple hours there is a Y in the road. We chose the left fork because there was an iron pipe gate open on the side of the road. We walked higher and higher and kept going because we were almost at the top of the hill, but the trees were taller and blocked any view. We kept saying, Were almost there. Lets go another .5 miles. Lets go another 15 minutes. which we did and more, but it was 4:45 in the middle of October, and our good sense took over, not to mention our knees and feet. pain. We decided wed have to come another day. Never found the lookout. We kept hearing a snap of twigs, so kept our eyes peeled for cougar... Never saw any phantom cat.It turns out the RIGHT fork takes you to the shorter towers that provide a spectacular view of Lake Samish, Lake Padden, Lake Whatcom and the Sound. Another mile of so on the right fork then. and We were told the loop aroung the mountain is there but long.To do it over again, wed take snacks, more water, and a backpack, just in case. The car was a wonderful sight to behold and provided much needed motivation. Returned at 7. Felt like 12 miles to this body. Pretty sure it was more vigorous than any in the Mount Baker area.
Great short hike!
