The cabin is remote and quiet. I did not stay or visit the Inn. The cabin is an older building, with its issues. If you want a place to look perfect, you will pay more for it. AC took a bit to cool the place down, ( July 2020) no ceiling fan to assist in air flow. Being remote, in the woods, means you have a few more insects than a hotel, but I did not mind getting back to nature. No wifi, no TV, just you, a room, and a bathroom. The porch looked nice, but too hot to enjoy when I was there. Simple stay for a decent price.

Overall it was an interesting experience. The grounds are gorgeous. The main B&B exceptional (for the area way too pricey) The cottage where we stayed was rustic and quaint, however, it was in need of a few minor repairs (sealing wall openings, clearing outside weeds, removing bees nests, cleaning porch furniture etc) Once these minor fixes are done it will be outstanding. All in all we liked it. The Cellar Door (on site wine tasting & eatery) it’s self was relaxed and comfortable, service very laid back (perhaps too much -we said we were checking in cottage they never asked ours names or for ID) We had the cheese board... very nicely done, however, again a slight miss, they left items listed on menu off (nuts & jams). They did prepare us a nice bundle of breakfast items for the cottage. The sourdough bread was awesome and the wines fantastic. My only other comment - while pets are permitted signage asks they be leashed, there were a number of large dogs unleashed roaming from table to table (while eating) - these were I assume management or owners pets as guests had their pets leashed. These few things are why I can’t give it a 5 star review. I would stay here again.

Tara was cute and had a nice view, however, everything else about Tara winery was awful! My boyfriend and I sat at a table for about 10 minutes before even being talked to. The servers saw us, just chose to ignore us. Then the owner came over and brought us water and apologized that they were short staffed. She didn’t take our order or anything. We sat there for another 5 minutes before a server came over to take our order. (Mind you there were about 5 tables in the restaurant. 2 tables looked like regulars as both waitresses continued to only talk to them). When ordering a bottle of wine the waitresses tried getting us to buy a bottle that was $22 more than the bottle ordered. When she brought the bottle she dropped it off and left. Other tables had their wine poured for them. Then 2 more tables came in and the owner complained that tables were coming in. We then waited about 20 minutes to ask for our check. We asked one waitress that wasn’t ours for the check and she replied “umm I’m not your waitress”. We then continued to wait another 10 minutes for our check. The server only came to our table because another costumer noticed we were trying to get her attention. Wouldn’t go back. Wouldn’t recommend. There are other winery’s to try in town. Go to them instead!

A beautiful 100 year old B&B with some updated amenities. The winery has spectacular wines and delicious food! Unfortunately, when we were there the heat wasnt working properly in our room even though the rest of the house was cozy warm during a cold night. I know we werent there to watch TV but it is good for you to know that there isnt one in the room but in a common area. Also, we had a breakfast suited for a King! It was Cooks choice and it wss the morning after Valentines and we had steak and eggs. Since it was Valentines Day and also our Anniversary we spent a lot to stay there but not compensated for the freezing room!

The three stars is for the wine and that’s it. The service doesn’t deserve anything more than 1. I came out here because my parents live close by and had bought me a bottle of their wine for my birthday and I wanted to buy some more for Valentine’s Day. The wine is good and the scenery is pretty but there’s a lot left to be desired. We weren’t really greeted by the lady at the front counter when we got in. She knew absolutely nothing about the wines or their pricing. She didn’t have anyone else to refer us to get information on the wines either. She was very quick to try to sell us on a tasting when I asked if I could taste the particular wine I was looking at before I bought it since I only had an idea of what it was because she knew nothing about it. When we explained that we couldn’t stay for a whole tasting she just got quiet and stared at us until we told her which bottles we would purchase. This is not okay. Anyone who is selling your wines should be able to at least tell you what they are and be able to point you to something that might be what you’re looking for. I wanted to come back one day and do the full tasting but now I think I’ll skip that and find somewhere else to go for that. After reading the reviews I’m so glad the management never got back to me regarding having my wedding there.

We ate at the restaurant tonight, and although it had great ambiance, the service was horrible and food was overpriced and not very good. There was a ridiculous wait to for food, drinks- everything. When it did arrive, if it ever did, it was wrong. The waitress continuously commented on how busy they were, but there was hardly anyone there and most tables sat empty. She said they ran out of wine glasses, they never brought us napkins or water and we had to go ask for silverware. We never received the drinks we ordered and the final bill charged us for 3 items we’d ordered but never received. There are 5 dogs that live on the property and promptly beg at your table once food arrives. The wait staff would stop and pet the dogs as the went in & out and we can only hope they washed their hands before serving food. Another guest brought a small lapdog with her and two of the dogs there were barking and jumping on her trying to attack her dog. It was pretty frightening yet not one waiter or staff tried to stop it or help her. This place has such potential and with a small amount of effort could be amazing, Unfortunately it’s just not there. My best advice is go to have wine and enjoy the atmosphere, but have dinner elsewhere. Whatever you do, don’t order the $26 charcuterie board- it is hugely disappointing.

We went just to grab a wine tasting and a quick bite to eat. We brought our dog who was on a leash like the sign said. Immediately he was surrounded by three growling dogs. We took him inside and were greeted by a less than enthusiastic employee who was unconcerned about the dogs. One of the waiters was trying to be helpful and offered to bring the dogs inside but we didn’t want to cause trouble so we brought ours back outside and sat down, about two minutes later he was surrounded again. So if you have a dog, don’t bother. Also it’s overpriced.

My wife and I look forward to coming out to Tara Winery every time we visit Athens. The setting and outdoor seating are wonderful, especially coming from Seattle’s cold spring temps. Our idea of wine tasting has evolved into finding beautiful wineries, tasting something we like, and buying a bottle to enjoy on the property. Of course we add a good cheese plate/appetizer for pairing. The staff is great too. So, with these things as our guide, Tara is a 5.

The concept of the cottage was great. We watched a thunderstorm from the front porch but that is what we like. The cottage is cute BUT there is no ceiling just bamboo curtains nailed to the 2x4. There is insulation hanging between the bamboo. The shower is cute but so uneven standing on the tiles is uncomfortable. The reason we wont go back is the mold in the bathroom and the smell of mold and mildew is bad. Also the smoke alarm has been removed. The water was fine, clear and no smell.

The cottage wasnt ready because they didnt book our reservation. We were understanding. Went into town for dinner and came back to settle in for the night. We were surprisingly taken off of the vineyard and thats where it gets sketch. The cottage aka shed was in the someones back yard. The surroundings were not tidy and put together to say the least. My heart sank but I put on a happy face. We walk in the shed, and it smells of old mold, the furnishings look like it came from Goodwill, the shower had a clump of hair, stale coffee in the pot, trash on the floor. Absolutely stunning place...but the three stars are for the complete lack of service during the entirety of our weekend staying at the inn. From the very beginning we were out of towels and toilet paper. Couldn’t get a hold of the maintenance staff. In fact, they locked the room to the extra supplies so we had no options. Don’t get me wrong, it’s well worth staying there for the privacy and beauty of the - but the service left more to be desired. We had different people communicate different things to us about how full the inn would be. The main lady was very short and not helpful. To top things off, I’ve been without a purse-(ID, cards, money, and the rest) for two weeks now because they haven’t returned it in the mail. All in all, I think for the money, we were left disappointed. Hope that if we ever choose to stay there again, that it will be a better experience!

The property is in a beautiful private setting with vineyards and a winery bar/patio for tastings and a small restaurant. Down the road is the big house with rooms. It is beautifully decorated. Yet, when you stay there, you are on your own to figure things out, if you can. Bed was so uncomfortable and lumpy it took until 4am to briefly doze off. The room was stiffling hot. Yet the control outside didnt help. The only solution would have been to sleep with door wide open which we didnt want to do with others in inn. The lights were on in the landing outside our room and we tried every switch to turn off but couldnt. Our door was glass covered with a curtain so light shining in room all night. There was not a single cup or glass in room..and no bottled water anywhere. So if you were thirsty, you had to use your hand as a cup in the sink. Way over-priced for such negatives. Food in restaurant mediocre. $45 for waygu filet that was dry and grainy.

The property is definitely beautiful and we very much wanted to like this place. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a strange hostility when inquiring about doing a tasting on the patio. They let us do this but it turns out, a tasting (which was 5 wines and 1-2 sips worth) was $20 a person - they had bottles for sale for that much. The tasting did not include any description of the wines but was just 5 pours and honestly that price is quite steep. The server acted a bit unfriendly and each pour was put in the same glass without a rinse and she grabbed them off the table by the rim with her fingers. We also ordered a cheese board which came with a very large serving of cheese and no bread which seemed odd. It was also not what the menu described it as (they described pecans and jam and neither of those were on the plate) I am definitely not picky when it comes to cheese but eating a scoop of pimento with a spoon isn’t that appetizing. All told we had 2 tastings, a cheese board and a small side salad and the bill was $70. I feel a bit ripped off and the price tag with the poor service ensures I won’t go back, unfortunately.

This hidden gem is the perfect east Texas weekend getaway. We sampled several wines, both sweet and dry, and they were excellent. Some varieties of grapes are harvested right on the property. We had dinner there one evening - I had the filet and my wife had a burger. Both were delicious. We stayed at the Inn one evening, and found the Victorian-era home to be beautiful and very nostalgic. We stayed in the Gone With the Zen room, which is one of the smaller rooms, but was perfect for the 2 of us. The matress and comforter were so comfortable. There was a balcony adjacent to our room that overlooked the property, and a game room across the foyer. The staff was nice and so helpful. Well definitely be back!

So far right now I’m very disappointed in the inn. We wanted a fun place for a thanksgiving get together for my family, so we rented the whole inn. When we checked in we went to eat and we were told to come back in an hour or so because they already had a party. So we just had pizza in the inn. However, when we were walking around the inn, there was empty beer cans and bottles and wine bottles all over the place. There was food in the fridge from who knows when, and there was about a roll and a half of toilet paper in the whole inn. For the amount of money I spent on the rooms, I can only say that I will not be returning to this place. My sister loved it when her and her husband stayed previously, but even they were less than impressed this time.

My husband booked the cottage for a romantic weekend getaway. I was so excited! Its a rare thing. We get to the vinyard at 2.30pm on Friday 5/3. It was a ghost town. One lady was there running around answering phones and totally seemed like things were out of control. We quickly find out the cottage wasnt ready because they didnt book our reservation (even though we had the confirmation thru Expedia) and wouldnt be ready for hours. We were a little put off but didnt let it show. We had a glass of wine, enjoyed the views and then decided to go into town for dinner. We returned around 7ish. Surprisingly, We are taken off of the Vineyard property and into the woods next door. THIS IS WHERE IT GETS SKETCH. We drive up to someones house and see behind it, a shed. The grass all around is knee high, there are some window screens and what looked like a lumber pile in the front yard of the house and another pile on the side of the shed/cottage. Was not inviting to say the least. TIP TO OWNER: Someone who can afford a weekend getaway at a Vineyard expects more than this. Anyway at that point my heart started to sink. We walk in the shed, and it smells of old mold, the furnishings look like it came from Goodwill, the shower had a clump of hair, stale coffee in the pot, trash on the floor. The place legit looked like a 20 year old guy lived there, complete with electric guitar and amp. Thats when I start crying. Our credit card was already charged $385 at this point. We were told the owner or someone related to the owner lived in the house. How deceiving to pay for a secluded cabin in the woods and it end up being a shed in someones back yard.I call up to the cafe and a gentleman (the chef/manager) was quick to get us into the main house which was great. He had some choice words about the shed saying he is sick of this happening and its just not worth it, etc. Anyway, we go back up to the vineyard thinking we will take the opportunity to first, thank the man that upgraded us and in return get an apology for our inconvenience, then have a glass of wine and dessert before going back to another room. Disappointingly the man must not have seen the importance to greet us because he was long time during the 5 minutes it took us to drive back to the vineyard. During the HOUR we waited for the room to ge ready, We had to go inside and ask the 3 staff that were chatting to eachother every time we wanted a glass refill, were never asked if we wanted a menu, or even water, which is ridiculous since there was literally 2 other people there and they were already done with their dinner. TIP TO OWNER: The staff really need training on how to serve a guest, explain the wine menu (do you have a wine menu cause I didnt see it), and make a patron feel special.9.30pm, and we are finally shown to our room by a very nice young lady who apologized and said this happens a lot. Everyone always gets upgraded to the main house. So, the room was nice, but hot and overpriced, but waaay better than the shed. We specifically wanted privacy (hints why we searched for a cabin) but ended up sharing the house with another couple (awkward).Saturday morning comes (5/4/19), and we are both refreshed from a great nights sleep. The bed was super comfy. Online it says breakfast is included but we were told if we wanted something, wed have to wait til noon when the restaurant opens. um no we are not going to wait that long for breakfast... Anyway she left us a plate of 2 slices of bread, 2 huge chunks of bleu cheese (yikes), and two hard boiled eggs in the fridge. Sweet thought but seriously who is going to eat that? We are gone pretty much all day (9am-7pm) Saturday and get back to the room expecting turnover service considering we paid almost 400 bucks. Nothing was touched. No fresh towels, no bed made, nothing. So we packed our stuff to leave cause we are just over it. We absolutely didnt get value from this experience. If anything, we feel like we were lied to and stolen from.

My wife and I stayed at the house a couple of years ago and we enjoyed it immensely. In fact we wanted to setup a weekend for us and two or three other couple friends on Valentines day 2016. I called and spoke to a gentleman (I believe Patrick) in the spring of 2015. I informed him of my plans and asked to make a reservation. He informed me that they were hoping to get a wedding on that weekend and asked me to call back in late Sept. or early Oct. I was disappointed but agreed. Upon calling back at the end of September (just a few weeks ago) I talked with a woman who informed me that they do not reserve for the following year until after the January 1st. I explained my conversation with Patrick, she agreed to have him call me back so we could discuss it. A week and a half later after no call I once again contacted Tara Winery, the lady seemed to remember me and assured me that Patrick would call me back that very day. Now, two weeks later, no calls or emails I am reviewing your business. This is idiotic to ignore people who have already payed to stay at your facilities and is excited to spend even more time and money there. I do not know who is in charge there, but there needs to be some changes. I will DEFINITELY tell all my friends here in Dallas to stay away.

There is a beautiful antebellum style gone with the wind B&B house adjacent on the property. We did not stay, but walked through the house and it would make for a terrific get away. The food (the owner acknowledged issues a year or so ago and indicated those have been resolved) was quite good and reasonable. Dogs are VERY welcome and ours had a blast running free. Nothin less than a love affair. As a native of Clifornia I was home sick. FindingTARA, well it made me think of Temecula, Cal. It also had a taste of nothern Cal in her, yet it is all TEXASOur anniversary could not of been spent in a more romantic and beautiful place.
