Early in the morning lots of homeless people sleeping on the benches. Mid day it is a nice park with lots of shade. When the sun starts to go down the homeless numbers start to go up and hangout in groups. Was never bothered by any of them or asked to give them money. We did stop to watch this band Chilltonic play for the park and they put on a great show!
Good place to hang out and get to know other unique people. Easy to get to but very limited parking ( got a parking ticket). Park is so so clean but the people there r very entertaining and spontaneous music circles are not uncommon. I highly recommend this place if u r not afraid to mix with people of all walks.
Beautiful place during the day. But be careful at night due to the amount of homeless people in the park. Advice to go in day. The puzzle walk was fun.
We really enjoyed this area of town .So many restaurants to choose from .Great stop to sit for coffee, desserts etc.friendly and safe environment. We ate at Jersulem Med.Restaurant and it was the best.If you are a fan of middle eastern cuisine, then you definitely want to try this authentic foods.Lamp chops were the Greatest, serving 3 w/hummus and pita w/veg.salad.Wait staff was very attentive and served us with minimal wait.
Do not get within 100 feet of this cesspool. The City should do something about this public space. My wife and I were quite uncomfortable walking through the park due to the adjacent sidewalk being closed. The whole park is essentially a homeless community. Definity keep away while in the downtown area. Totally ruined our experience.
Fantastic park. I was incredibly apprehensive as this is the first time Ive been in Asheville proper for close to a decade. A lot has changed, for the worse. Too many sweater vests, designer dogs, khakis, etc. The last time I sat in this park I had the pleasure of drinking a cheap hot coffee from Firestorm books, then located within sight of the park. A dude bro in shades asked where he could score some dope to which a park inhabitant alerted me and everyone else that it was a nark asking.Fortunately today the park remained how I remember! It seems whatever culture, eccentricity, excitement this downtown area has to offer was distilled and following the sunshine around the park. Public toilets are a great addition, outlets for charging ones phone and a working water fountain. Small man riding a bike in circles with a katana in his backpack. Someone playing spoons. No pigs in sight, by far an oasis in an otherwise whitewashed eyesore of a town.
TOURISTS BEWARE! On the plus side, I hear this is a great place to score drugs. One the negative side, I decided to venture in to see what it is really like. It is terrible! It is a hang out for people who I found to be very scary. I spoke with one person and he told me he is schizophrenic. Good luck finding a seat on any of the benches. Mostly men just sitting around staring like lost lambs . I cant believe the local businesses dont complain or if they do, why doesnt Asheville do something about this. Asheville seems to be a magnet for homeless people and Pritchard Park seems to be their headquarters. Make it into a real park for everyone or let someone develop that area.
This whole area is getting worse and worse every month. My family and I would come to Asheville several times a year. We will definitely be getting away from that. The park is basically a headquarters for the homeless and panhandlers. Their numbers are increasing, asking for money as each person walks by. When they’re wanting a break from trying to get money from tourists, they will be taking a nap on about all the park benches, with all their backpacks and baggage sitting all over. The money the city receives to build the city up comes from the tourists, to the businesses to the city, not from the people asking the tourists for money. I’m very surprised the city allows this.
Asheville is suppose to be a tourist town, who would want to visit here and ride thru Downtown Asheville and All you see is shopping carts and homeless people laying All over Pritchard Park and on the streets of Downtown in the middle of the city,,, Clean up Asheville, it could be so beautiful...
Depending on the time of day, its a great park or a shady drug ridden den.
Awesome, fun, ratchet and hippy all at the same time! I enjoy sitting with complete strangers in the park listening to all kinds of music. Always fun
Nice location and plenty of shade, could provide more shelter for the homeless that spend the afternoons here to stay out of the rain.
I try to clean it up and keep it up sometimes it get pretty busy there. Tupelo restaurant is across the way. Got excellent biscuits all throughout the day. Drop by sometime.
We traveled from Cincinnati Ohio to experience the drum circle in Ashville, North Carolina. It was everything that we expected plus some! We read reviews about the location being unsafe but we did not experience that. In fact, we experienced the complete opposite! Everyone that we encountered was extremely friendly and helpful! We will definitely be back!
We went by the park during a scavenger hunt. Clean. Small. Good location with stuffnin the area. Lots of homeless.
Great spot to picnic but unfortunately, too many people
So we were traveling through late at night. We stopped in town for gas for our truck and to find restrooms. There were public restrooms right by the police dept. There was a sign posted saying Public Bathrooms Closed untill further Notice I knocked, loudly, repeatedly at the police dept door to ask if my kids could use the bathroom. I know they heard me, but they ignored me. We had to use the port-o-pottys in the park and they were fithy. I told my kids mot to touch anything! And later we washed their hands in sanitizer. The park was so dirty and filled with homless and strange people. There was a public wash station but clearly it had been vandilized. For being a Pandemic right now nothing was clean. It looked like the whole town was shut down. This maybe normally a nice park. I wouldnt know, But dont visit it at night. And not with kids. :(
Homeless hangout & drugs! My toddler desperately needed a place to run and get energy out but after 5 minutes we felt unsafe.
Its more of where the locals will meet up and hang out. So its always rather busy.
Its a very busy place! All kinds of people and entertainment alike. Stay there for a few minutes or hours, your choice. Theres good food around as well as shoppes of all sorts. Come check out downtown Asheville if all the crowds pleases you. ENJOY!
Cops are or way too heavy, and mostly going to find trouble but if you in that lifestyle theres money
Asheville is a great town, but Pritchard Park is not a safe place to visit. What a shame the police dont clean the place up, its a blemish on Asheville.
Nowhere to sit. Homeless people was scattered all over it.
The Bohemian lifestyle seems to rule at this place.
A lil homely but over all a be a spot
It was nice till all the meth user and trouble makers showed up the the park go down hill
Good place to meet cool homeless people
Sat in the sun and enjoyed the last of the morning
Not a pleasant place to hang out these days. Used to be cool spot, mostly just covered up with combo of tourists and addicts. I dont stop there anymore.
Friday nights are such a unique experience! Come ready to dance and participate with the locals! This is a must-do when visiting the city.
Great spot for events (drum circle... etc), but the cleanliness is a big issue. A lot of homeless people hang out there after hours and trash the place out and in turn it attracts roaches. It’s quite disgusting at night. Daytime is ok though.
The hyatt is elegant. I was extremely satisfied with guest services...
This use to a real nice park and still is to a certain extent, but its now more like a hangout for Ashevilles homeless folks they dont bother you much but will ask for money occasionally or cigarettes. Its quiet most of the time so just remember Asheville has a high population of homeless.
Definitely improved since last tine I was here. Still a bit trashy but the city cant control the ones who leave their trash behind. Plants and outlets now its looking much better. Way to go city of Asheville!
The Friday night drum circle is just amazing. The people and positivity warm my heart!
Awesome place to visit on Friday evenings. They have a drum circle anyone is welcomed to come and join
If you like hippies and homeless folks, ladies and gentlemen, I have found your Mecca! It is well kept and the police are always present. So theres that.
Way to much homeless
Fun place. Drum circle Friday night. Hard to get seats so get there early, like at 6pm.
The place is wild
Awesome fo travelers, lots of cool hippies, yuppies a plenty, good food nearby, lots of people without permanent domiciles, selling art and tarot readings and such.
Great place on Friday drum circle Tuesday girls dance with hoola hoops
This ideal little space is right at the heart of Asheville. Watch the pigeons!
Great, open areas. Beautiful places to enjoy anything outdoors.
Drum circle is lit. Raskolnikov the friendly boa is dope. Id give 5 stars but for some reason, there is always at least one person s#!% talking the local homeless. They got it bad as it is, live and let live!
Its a cool place to sit awhile and rest. A good place to people watch. However, if you rest too long there, inevitably homeless or panhandlers folks will ask you for cigs, cash, etc. I, for one, dont appreciate aggressive strangers
Love the drum circle during the summer months
Had so much fun playing the drums, cow bell and shakers Dancing with the people of Asheville. Lovely, kind spirited Town.
Great just a morning walk.
Homeless park. 9/6/2020
Music was uplifting enjoy seeing different people come together
Was a nice looking park. We went to see the drum circle and it was interesting at least...
Nice pocket park in the middle of Downtown Asheville, is home to the Friday Night Drum Circle and occasional arts and craft events. Well worth a visit.
Should be turned into a parking lot, IMHO
I watched a drum circle here for about an hour or so. If youve never watched a drum circle in a park in the middle of a city on a Friday evening, you should add it to your bucket list. It seemed as though people from all walks/stations/ages gathered here, percussion instruments in tow, and created something that is simultaneously modern and primal. The people watching was many-layered, and I am richer for having experienced this.
Drum circle on a Friday night is a blast!! This cute park is in the center of downtown Asheville!! Great place to hang out, get food and drinks! Love Prichard Park!
I love the drum circle. Asheville at its best. Makes no difference if youre a Trump lover or hater, long haired, tatted, sexual orientation, everyone is grooving.Great energy as 30-40 people drumming. Anyone can sit in, dont even need to bring a drum as many people bring extras.Nothing but smiling faces.
We arrived in Asheville and found a place to park, which is not easy. We wanted to park near Pritchard Park to go to the Drum Circle later that day. As we got to the park we felt like we were invading the homes of, it seemed, dozens if people who live there. They all were planted on the benches with their sleeping bags and one man was out cold in the walkway. We quickly left and didnt come back. Asheville appears to have a serious homeless issue. Doesnt make for a pleasant experience. Avoid Pritchard Park.
Not clean and didnt feel safe in this park.
Friday night is fun drum circle people are fun to watch
Needs to do more stuff for the homeless
Cute little park ! Very clean!
Great little public space for community gatherings. The drum circle nights are really fun.
Nice park for the downtown night life
I liked that they leave a box of fruit or collection of foods in a box for the homeless.
Friday Night Drum Circle... Awesome
Staff was nice & the food was Hot & Fresh. New bacon 1/4 lber is really good for a QSR burger . It was not packed like Chicfila across the street. It was peaceful and relaxing. Easy return to I-81.
Nice park right in the middle of downtown Asheville!
All different types of things here. You will be amazed with peoples talents
Most fun Ive had in awhile I love the drum circle
Wonderful location beautiful views in the heart of down town. A lovely place to sit and sketch
I like going to park.
Fun little space for drum circles in the heart of downtown Asheville! Keeps the city unique!
Cute and quaint and always have live music at night time on the weekends atleast!
Interesting characters and musicians on certain evenings
Nice park, but with a lot of homeless people...
Loved everything about our visit to worship at Land of the Sky UCC this morning.
Great group of people. Homeless people hang out their
Lots of Street people but a nice place for a short sit during exploring
Live music and dance, one of the good ways to explore Ashville culture
Theres a lot of different people that comes to Prichard Park. Some come to rest, while others may come to either get some entertainment or to be the entertainment itself. Others just walk through. Theres also a variety of cultures, and from rich to very poor. A person is likely to find someone they can be friends with if they so wish to.
Great atmosphere. Something for everyone. Lots of restaurants. No playground but welcoming to kids. Come on most second Saturdays (of each month) to hear the gospel of Jesus from various Christians.
Nice park, some buns and grifters though
Pretty interesting but it was under construction. Good place with some interesting people
Drum circle is awesome every Friday at 6
So glad I spent the day here!
Interesting melting pot of nationalities and cultures.
Nice Place to meet many Local People and Multiple Entertainment Venues from my experience so far. I look forward to see it & more of Downtown Asheville. Ill be updating more as I go.
