Great guided tour inside! My guide, Naomi, had a genuine interest in the history of the tavern and that makes the best guides. Very informative and helpful to a curious visitor like me. The tavern itself really is beautiful. Really gives you a sense of life in colonial times and understanding the day-to-day realities of settling a nation.
Nice history
A great look back in York history.
Super cool historical site
Great historic site. Well cared for historic building with a well informed staff. Fantastic educational experience of the American Revolution and Colonial American lifestyle.
Staff gave great tour. A lot of history in a downtown that is comming back..
Who would know York PA has such an important part of history on our doorstep. The year was 1777. The British take the continental capital in Philadelphia and occupy it. Benedict Arnold wins the battle for General Gates and the continental army at Saratoga. George Washington is preparing to winter over at Valley Forge, and YORK PA is the make shift CAPITAL for what will one day be AMERICA. The Golden Plow Tavern is where the continental congress learn of the much needed victory at Saratoga and any last whispers of Replacing George Washington as the commanding General for Horatio Gates is silenced.
Nice historical place. Good for pictures if you are a traveler.
My Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather Peter Scholl (later changed to Shull) joined the Revolution with COL Albrights Regiment in 1777-1778. This is where he started (York County). He is now laid to rest in White County IL with a marker that distinguishes him as a Veteran of the Revolutionary War. Most likely he visited this Tavern. Someday I, COL Peter Shull of the 75th Ranger Regiment, will visit this Tavern...very cool.
Lovely place to drink
Informative tour guide.
