Great trails that are easily marked to follow! It has plenty of trails and great views from the top! It is my favorite place to trail run and walk my dogs.
This park is a nice hidden gem in North Haledon. With several access points, the 3 mile loop that takes you up to the top of the mountain is good exercise and peaceful. The view of surrounding NJ is gorgeous. Around 4pm, the park has some hikers but not enough to feel crowded. The trail is shaded as well if you want to stay out of the sun. I would definitely go here again.
Its a Fun and Safe hike for most. My personal belief when it comes to hikes is every hike MUST have a high point. For this hike its when you reach the top of the mountain and you can see the NYC skyline. Absolutely beautiful like always. Paths are well marked and terrain suited for most hikers. There arent any rock crawls here but a few steep inclines to enjoy while making your way to the top are a good reminder you are hiking in the woods. Please enjoy and continuing keeping this place clean.
I’m from out of town and so drove pretty far up here to come to this park and the address led me to a dead end in a random neighborhood. i couldn’t find out how to access this park.. ending up wasting so much time trying to find parking or an entrance that i ended up having to go home
Very nice hike, A lot of small loose rocks on the trail so be prepared. Many options to walk off main trails, but they were not clearly marked. Fortunately we brought a map as wifi was sketchy.
Some of the paths get a little steep, but really beautiful views.
Nice scenic place to view all three states
Great hiking trails for beginners, look up a trail map to plan ahead but expect about 45 minute up to 4 hours of hiking. The top of the mountain has great views of NYC but be careful with your dogs, there is a ton of glass shards up there.
Couldnt find the way to the top and the weather was hot. Great place otherwise.
Beautiful place to a peaceful jog or family walks
This reserve is a very well-rounded hike that is not too intense. The trails are very clearly marked and maps can be taken at the entrance. The yellow trail has the scenic overlook of the city which is a little steep of a hike, but well worth the effort. The red and white trails are beautiful in their own rights, but if you are hitting this reserve for the first time, definitley hike the yellow trail.
We visited during the Memorial Day weekend. It’s a beautiful pristine gem in northern NJ. And definitely worth a visit.
Nicely maintained trails with clear blazes. Trail is flooded out in spots which requires some maneuvering from rock to rock (or nice waterproofed boots), but this is a hike! Can make the hike as long or as quick as you want and the view is so rewarding! Honestly, the reason I took off stars is that the top is trashed! Graffiti on every rock, broken glass everywhere (to the point that I would not recommend bringing a dog to the top for fear of them damaging their pads), cigarette butts, etc. Many times Ive had to share the top with college kids drinking and smoking. Not pleasant. No blame on those that maintain the trails, I blame the ease of the hike and the proximity to a college.Overall, I just use this as a quick after work hike, due to its proximity to me. The views are insane too!
Though the parking spaces are limited, it is well-worth a visit. Love to walk around and explore nature with friends. This a great hike trail!
Great hiking with lots of trails.
Great place to hike and enjoy scenery
Walked along a quiet creek in a valley with Mesozoic basalt walls. Among the tall trees were strange erratic rounded boulders of granite and metamorphic rock transported by turbulent glacial streams from higher land thousands of years ago. Followed the creek as it disappeared as a losing stream then reappeared as a gaining stream. This place is for nature lovers and Geology types!
Great views and nice long walk.
Great place to bike or hike by yourself, in groups or with your dog.
Quiet and peaceful. Almost never see another hiker during the weekdays.
Nice scenic wooded rolling hills. Easy to intermediate difficulty hiking trails. Great views at the top of the mountain. Worth the climb. 11 miles of trails.
Most beautiful setting and great views
Very nice
Great trails, well organized, very well signed. Amazing view from the top of the hill.
Beautiful park for a walk with the doggos. Lots of trails and space to wander.
Excellent trails, but be sure to follow the blazes! It can be easy to get lost on unofficial paths.
Are you open durin corana virus now
Well marked and maintained trails. Mixed surfaces - fine for children but those with bad joints should consider only the red trail. Small parking lot, no facilities.
Beautiful place to hike and get away from it all. Trees are very well marked but be sure your leader stays on the same color trail or you may get.. lost!
Good place, long trails. Biking and hiking.... Picknick area at the nearest lake. I recommend this place....What I like:- Good trails for begginers- Bike trails- Parking lotWhat I didnt like:- Small parking at the south side- No portable restrooms at the parking
Lovely moderate hiking. Multiple trails are well-marked. Parking lot is a little small but some other hikers told me parking is available near the rec center as well. My dog loved it as well! There are no facilities such as toilets, water, or trash.
If you like hiking, this is a great spot
Nice place for hiking
Great place to hike, lots of trails
A nice close to home spot to hike. Certainly not the most exciting but theres a decent little climb to the peak and a good view. Good for a pretty quick hike.
I live close by and its a great place for a quick hike. Great views of the New York city from the summit (yellow trail)
Lacerated my chin after impact with a rock face first... on my way back to the parking lot after shredding (never again)
Its a nice hike
Beautiful park for a walk and good environment.
Beautiful setting with extensive trails. Just very rocky.
Great hike. A out 4 mi
High Mountain is a great place to escape the congestion of NJ. It offers great hiking trails that are fun and challenging. The ascent to the summit is quite steep but the view is well worth it. There is a great view of the New York skyline. Its a great place to spend an afternoon in nature!
Its a very nice place to hike..U get to see the NYC skyline..but u have to take the yellow trail for that..
CLEAN OUTDOORS FUN AREA FOR THE FAMILY.
Nice trails. Parking was easy.
I live next to the park and so I walk my dog Mickey there almost every day. We meet and greet lots of friendly people and their dogs. Over the last 20 years I have walked almost all the trails from easy to challenging depending on my mood. The mountain bikers have added many new trails over the last few years. It is a friendly community of people here.
Great place to hike on the double track and mountain bike on challenging single track.
Fall is coming!
Beautiful and quiet with long trails
Good hiking trail to visit with family
Nice hiking park, about 5 miles, 2 hrs.
A nice, quiet place to visit to get away from the craziness. Beautiful views especially when the sun shines after it rains. Highly recommended.
Park at 100 University Drive, We did the red trail into yellow trail and got lost. nice view at the top of the Summit.
Fun place to hike and bike!
Nice hike through the woods slowly leading to a lookout on the yellow trail(see my pic). Not too crowded and not as much trash as I thought there would be. Lots of chipmunks, squirrels, and blue Jays(I think) out there. May not be great for mountain biking since there are areas with larger size rocks, but there may be paths branching off for bike.
Lots of glass on the trail. Not well marked. Easy to get lost. Quite rocky.
Love it. Got to follow the trails, you can easily get lost.
Love this park!!! Great trails. Dog likes it too!
Nice trails and woods
Nice hike beautiful views
Good hiking trails with a great view of NYC. Follow the red trail from the parking lot by William Patterson about 20 minutes until you can turn right onto the yellow trail and then follow that to the highest point, about 45 minutes to the top. Lots of rocks on the trail, watch your step and beware of rolling your ankle. Plenty of deer to be seen on the way up.
Easy to follow trails
First I thought the reviews of people saying the trails were poorly marked were wrong. I was able to get to the high point with no issue. However, beyond that I saw what people were talking about. I used all trails and was able to manage luckily.
Great place for hiking and biking
A great day on the trails. The temperature was great for a January day. The trails were from dry to muddy to slushy to icy, all in just a few turns of the trails. A nice amount a people on the trails, and a few mou rain bikers.
An easy hike.
Not too difficult.
Pretty good hike with a bit of variety. We parked in red trailing lot and took a loop going to red-white- yellow-back to red.
Great local hike. 4 different train to challenge you. Good for a quick Day hike.
Great nature reserve, so close to the city! Well marked trails, beautiful
One of my favorite places to hike! Lots of great trails through different terrains. Plenty of abandoned cars hidden in the woods and quite a few geocaching sites.
Beautiful hiking trails and a huge bonus at the top of the hill where on a clear day you can see the manhattan skyline Hike isnt terribly challenging which is what we were looking for
NYC skyline
Nice views
Great place for hiking with multiple fitness level trains to enjoy! Recommend printing a map from on-line!
Cool place to hike, I did take my Mountain Bike but it was rocky like a mo - fo and had to walk in parts. There are people with motorcycles back here. Take the Yellow trail to the summit! Enjoy the views, Newark, and NYC skyline.
Great views
Well blazed trails. Provided maps were a good plus. Great views of NYC and valley.
Poorly labeled yellow and red trails the further north you get. At one point I had to bushwack from the remains of the yellow trail back to the red trail. Most of the trail was intermittent stream bed with loose rocks and running water.
Great place just to go for a walk go kayaking paddle boarding fishing
Beautiful hiking trails and views of Manhattan skyline. Lots of wildlife. Deer, turkeys, bears.
Really nice hiking trails that are clearly marked. Fantastic views
Very hard to walk half mile
I would call this more of a woods walk than a hike. Walked the whole Yellow Trail with my dog. You can just barely see the NYC skyline, if you stand on a big rock at the very top.
Its beautiful! In natures lap. Trails are not conducive for cycling.
Great trails, not too rough and just enough of a good height for a simple hike on a sunday afternoon.
