Do not miss out on the central hall of the bird house. It is easy to miss out the ground level door into this huge hall where you can walk around among unabashed peacocks showing off their lush colors.

The bird house at the National Zoo is currently preparing for an update - so many of the animals are off-exhibit, and the free-flight area behind the house is closed for renovation. The animals surrounding the bird house are still outside, however.
