I am a geologist and am still blown away by the feature here. Easy hike down a hill to Dinosaur Tracks!
I am amazed at how many different people and modes of transportation are out here. On our way, we saw mountain bikers, and people on horseback. The trail was not bad at all. There were plenty of markers guiding you the right way. It would be easy to lose the correct trail. And there are dinosaur tracks to enjoy as well. That makes this a great trail for my family. And dogs are allowed as long as they are leashed.
Beautiful hike! I was hoping to see more dinosaur tracks along the hike other than those that are at the bottom of the first hill. The scenery is gorgeous and worth hiking the full trail out and back. I did this hike in January and started hiking at 10:30am. The weather was a little cool to start but it ended up being a perfect day.
The spot where the dinosaur tracks are is not easy to find. There are no signs on the road. If it wasnt for a blog online about the trail detailing how to go, we wouldnt have found the tracks. The tracks are only in one spot on the trail, not in various spots like I expected. The path is very steep and sandy. We had 9 kids age 1-7 with us and a pregnant lady in our large group so it was difficult getting everyone back up the hill. Would be a good hike for teens and adults.
New dinosaur TRACK Found!!! Bigger than a DINNER Plate. The track is the largest carnivore track here by a lot around 7 Inches deep and 2 to 2.5 feet long varies due to the depth of the track. I use to come here every year and take pictures of the tracks and this year I noticed a large land of dirt has been removed from a river that passed through from the rain recently. Reveling this new track. I was sceptical at first if it was even a track due to its size and how much dirt and rock there was in it but I chipped and swept the whole track for an hour to confirm 100% that it is a track. P.S. size 15 shoe in mens to compare. Possibly full grown adult Dilophosaurus if not maybe Allosaurus, torvosaurus, or ceratosaurus.
See actual dino prints in the rock at the bottom of the hill! You may want to take a travel size broom to gently brush out the sand/dirt for a better view. Steep sandy hill to get to the prints, no railings. Continue the trail back uphill for pretty views and a feel of being away from the population while right next to it.
Very cool place. You have to really pay attention where the tracks are.
The dinosaur prints were kind if a let down. Not prominent and took a while to figure out that they were prints. Overall fun and beautiful, but hard to see the prints
Ive wanted to go here for a long time. Their website boasts 17 large and easy to see dino tracks. The map on Google is accurate. It looks like the road to the trailhead is quite a ways from the place they say to stop. This is because you need 4 wheel drive to make it the rest of the way. I drove a 4 runner and was fine. The actual hike to the river bed was very short. We saw some prints, but have no way of knowing how far to go or what to look for. We sure did not find 17 distinguishable prints. A local couple that was leaving told us that vandals and time have caused a lot of damage. The grandkids enjoyed hiking in the red sand. It was a very short drive out of St. George. I liked being there with just us.
Wish there were markers to know where prints were, but my kids still had a blast
Beautiful views and lots of dinosaur tracks. Need a 4-wheel drive to get to trailhead. Climb back up is a challenge, but worth the effort
Fun and very interesting.
Awesome to see real dinosaur footprints up close and personal!
When combined with Chirch Rocks, this is easily one of my favorite mountain bike loops. I usually start at the Grapevine trailhead, ride Church Rocks in either direction, and then finish off with Dino Cliffs and loop all the way back around to the car. There are several technical sections and a few really deep Sandy hills.
Located off Hwy. 15 at exit 13, the views in this area are spectacular! The trail is between easy and moderate and is around 2 miles in length. Elevation change on trail is under 650 ft. and is used for hiking, biking and horses. Not much shade so be careful in the summer and carry water with you. PLEASE do not destroy the dino tracks...they are irreplaceable.
We didnt find the dino tracks, there wasnt any markers to actually tell us where to go. We walked on a few trails with marker on them, but nothing to point us where the tracks were. We will have to try it out again.
Its a short Trail but its fun and theres access points to other trails if you want a longer ride. If you ride just the dino Loop youre going to end up having to jump a fence and then stay left all the way back to where you park your car
Short, easy hike with kids. Wasnt surr what to expect as far as the dino tracks. Actually past them and had to backtrack. Takes some imagination but fun to see.
Its got a nice view, but too difficult to find dino tracks.
Its great to drive a four wheel drive vehicle up this bumpy graded dirt road. Beautiful views and red rock cliffs! Park just south of the water tower; there is a sign for the trail. From Dino Trailhead, walk to the east on the dirt road and through the walk-through in the fence to the left (only a few hundred feet away from parking). Then go down the red sand path, and the dino prints are there! Very short hike, no more than a quarter mile. This is an easy trail, great for families with kids of all ages. But there are some downhill/uphill parts that would be hard for those whose knees both them.
Great hiking and recreation area. Plus, dinosaur tracks!
Better tracks in moab
Not as good as some other dinosaur track trails in the county.
