Love, love, love. This space is just beautiful and so multi-purpose. If you havent toured the site in person, DO! Their website photos dont do it justice, the location is gorgeous in person and right in the heart of DC. The DAR has several spaces that rent by the hour so you can mix and match your spaces to fit your event. The portico is a fab covered space for an outdoor dance floor (even into the late fall!). Plus you can dance under the towering Washington Monument (Doesnt get much more DC than that.). The event staff at the DAR are very responsive and are delighted to have you. We loved having our wedding here and the ability to come back and visit the historical site whenever we want for years to come. (We even had DC food trucks pull up right outside which made for great catering.)

The Daughters of the Revolution (DAR) Museum on 17th Street is a very good attraction for those with an interest in American history. Opening Hours are 8.30am-4pm (M-F) and 9am-5pm (ST). The museum is closed on Sundays and Federal Holidays. Here you can explore three floors with 31 rooms, each individually decorated by DAR members from various States. Each room focuses on a designated time period and includes furniture and historical items of that era, allowing visitors a glimpse into the American household past, across the country. Rooms come with panel information and brochures pointing out important items you can view within. There is a collection with revolutionary war items at the DAR as well. One of the most interesting things to see at present is the rare Broadside of the U.S. Constitution (until 9 July). Of the approximately 200 of these documents which were created back in 1776, only 26 are known to have survived.Surrounding this Broadside are drafts of the constitution with side notes. The condition of these drafts is superb, penmanship and ink are easy to read. In all, the Broadside of the Constitution and the various drafts are remarkable items to see if you have any interest or even a mild curiosity in the founding of the United States as well as its early history.I very much enjoyed the 90 minutes spend at the DAR Museum viewing the many State period gallery rooms and Declaration of Independence document that were on display. This was a surprisingly high impact (and free) museum, a place I look forward to visiting again during future visits to D.C.

The DAR Museum is open during the week until 4pm and worth a visit. Its free and the museum gallery itself is tiny. Its two rooms mainly telling the story of DAR and showcasing a few historic quilts. You can breeze through it in minutes. The real magic is outside of the actual gallery. On several floors, there are 31 state period rooms showing what homes looked like a long time ago. Each room explains the state that sponsored the room and how its set up.Leave at least an hour to explore the massive library. It room itself is stunningly gorgeous and houses thousands of books about US history, genealogy, etc. Its a hidden gem of the city!

I worked two blocks away for years and never knew there was a museum in the DAR, and I wish I had known sooner! There are a lot of cool exhibits, including a bunch of rooms decorated from different historical periods and exhibits about the history of the organization. The building itself is also really beautiful inside and out, and they have a library where you can research your genealogy. Also it’s free! They have special events and Christmas activities too, so I’ll definitely be back.

In security, a security officer named Bryant intimidated us by yelling at us, and he continued acts of disservice by opening our bags and proceeding to empty the containers into the conveyer belt. When we reached the other side of the metal detector, Bryant wouldn’t allow us access to reassemble our bags on a chair, so we had to organize our bags on the floor. The other two workers did nothing the whole period of time, and both of them were on their mobile phones during working hours. Bryant continued to harass us with words, and we therefore decided to leave the museum without entering, because of the horrific behavior of the staff. Long story short, Bryant was rude and ruined our time at the museum.

This is a museum that should not be overlooked on your trip to DC. I stumbled upon it during a trip here and ending up spending hours. Its fun and educational. Explore the entire building.

I was just in there to visit the museum. I walked in and the security guard was rude and hateful. The lady standing by the front desk was rude. Didnt even great me. I was asked what I wanted. The guy behind the reception desk was nice. But there are no signs or anything to help you guide yourself around. I heard a tour guide that the museum was in another building. I asked for help and was ignored. So I just left. If this is how you treat people then that is disgusting.

There are more than thirty meticulously furnised period rooms to view, bringing American history alive in the halls of the DAR museum. A map is available, so you can go at your own pace, and booklets are available in each room in case youre curious about an individual object or piece of furniture. The current exhibit focuses on how quilting was transformed by new technology and imports between 1820 - 1920. The beautiful quilts and other objects make it worth seeing, even if youre not a quilter.

A magnificent Hall with balcony seats and standard seating, in addition to the standards floor space. We went there for graduation, and getting in early, we sat on the upper left, behind the band, on the third row, and got a spectacular view of the proceedings on stage. As graduates got their diploma, they came towards where we were sitting... great spot 4 photos too.

They have over 20 period rooms with a brief story of where they come from, very interesting and well organized, once you understand how the floor map works and where to go (you are basically walking around the outside perimeter of 2 or 3 floors). Not crowded at all. We visited them by ourselves and it took us about an hour.

I offered to volunteer at the DAR Museum and they told me in person they needed volunteers really bad however I received a email today from them saying that they don’t need me as a volunteer. I feel discriminated against because I am a man offering to volunteer at a organization ran by women.

Visiting the DAR Museum was a pleasant surprise for many reasons. If you’re visiting Washington, DC and looking for something a little bit off the beaten path, then go visit the DAR Museum and Library. Not only will you find it less crowded than many of the other museums in the area, you’ll also come across some interesting bits of history. The DAR Museum is setup where you can look at many different rooms that accurately show how they were decorated in different time periods, showing the fads and what was popular during varying times in US history. The DAR Museum Hall also has a very ornate library where you can look up ancestors and family tree connections to the DAR.The staff was also courteous and helpful while finding our way around the museum. You don’t need a DeLorean to step back in time, just visit the DAR.
