One of the best views in town. Entrance is from the back of the building by Starbucks, directly across from the Metro elevator on 12th Street. There is an exhibit on the lowest level telling you about preservation in Washington, DC. The first level you exit for the tower is the bell ringing floor and there is some information there to look at but you mostly have to ask the Ranger to tell you. The topmost level is the viewpoint. 360° open air on two sides but contained with bars. Signs tell you what you are viewing. In the winter, around the Solstice you can watch the sun set. Note: the viewing platform closes at 5 but last entrance to tower is at 4:30, though you may be able to view the preservation exhibit at this time.
The Old Post Office Museum was purchased by Donald Trump, as part of a bid to use and revitalize the historic building. This review is used to rate only the visit to the bell tower view. The view at the top was nice and boast a 360 view of many DC attractions. The view is obstructed partially by wire shielding over the opening at the top. One side has plexiglass which is marred with stress points and scratches inhibiting the view. This is not a great place to grab pictures but the view is pretty nice. (I partially stuck my phone through the wires for some camera shots)Be prepared to walk through a few hallways and use 2 different elevators to get to the top. The hall ways have some interesting historical facts that visitors can read. Staff is very enthusiastic and will talk to you about anything. My favorite part was checking out the architectural features of the building. The bar and open area at the bottom would be a great place to meet a date.Overall, I rate this 3 stars when comparing the amenities and convenience of visiting to other historical sites.of the area.
After adventuring all through DC and checking out the monuments this had to be one of the coolest spots! The Old Post office is now intertwined with the Trump International Hotel.Key Notes:- To enter the museum: looking at the front of the hotel the museums entrance is on the right side past the hotels side entrance on 12th ST NW, next to the Starbucks. You will need to go through the black metal gate to get into the museum right next to the hotels sign.- Once you enter you will walk down a short hallway for the self guided tour. There is a security guard who checks bags before entering.- Its free to get in since its part of the National Parks.- The stamp for this park is not located at this location. I believe its at the Washington Monument store under the name of Pennsylvania Ave. You can also ask the rangers where to find it.- After passing the guard there is a small Trump gift shop to your left and to the right is where you enter for the tour.- The tour is one hallway with lots of pictures and readings about the old Post office.- Once you finish reading you take an elevator up to the tower, this is a must! The elevator is all glass, you can see inside the hotel itself.- Within the tower you can see so many monuments, its like the second greatest place to see this view them since the Washington Monument is out of order for now. There are plaques that tell you where the monuments are from where youre standing.- Word of causing, its SUPER windy up here so make sure to take a jacket if you get cold easily.- There are National Park Rangers to answer any questions you may have.
Very interesting visit. The museum is rather modest, but it explains the entire history behind the venue, starting with the LEnfant plans for Washington city up untill the leasing to Trump corporation. The visit to the clock tower is a must, since it gives a 360 degree view of the city from 275 ft above street level (highest point in the surrounding). Youll get to see all the famous monuments of the National Mall as well as farther away.
Not a museum! Just an elevator up the clock tower. Great views
Good place to get aerial view of Washington DC monuments and buildings.A little hard to find. Its been converted to Trump international hotel. But there is a path way that leads to the elevator that takes you to the top floor. Entry to that corridor is next to Starbucks. Its right opposite to the subway station
The museum and tower entrance are a bit hard to find but, worth the effort. Around the side of the building is a Starbucks and, the entrance is right next to it. The museum is mostly pictures but, the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. At the end of the museum is the elevator to the tower. The first 9 floors offer a view of the old post office hotel.
The view from this place is lovely. I didnt even know it was a place, I just stumbled upon it by accident. It is the third tallest building in the city, and its free too. A must see️
The views from the Clock Tower are worth the stop! Elevator is located by Starbucks on the backside of the Trump hotel, or you can cut through the hotel bar to see the original Post Office steel beams arching overhead. Great way to take a break after exploring the National Mall.
This place has potential, great place to bring the kids. Lots of space for the kids to run and guess whats its indoors. No food available, Museum shops, Shops Etc, Minor DC info. Kids seem to love it! There is a fee. Very clean and spacious restrooms. Separate large family area. Overlook areas available relaxing.
An absolute hidden gem and also the next best public vantage point in the city. When you exit the federal triangle Metro stop, its straight across the street.
If you want to see the city from up high this is far better than the Washington monument. There is a small museum which is really a hallway with pictures of the history of the old post office. Then you ride up an elevator to the top and get to look out onto the city. They have helpful signs that point out landmarks in all four directions. No, you dont have to go into the Trump hotel to get to this although you will walk through a hallway that is technically part of the hotel. Enter at the door next to Starbucks.
You can see the view of Washington D.C. And The staffs are kindly and organized well ~!!
One can enjoy a 360 degree eagle eyes view of Washington DC from the top of the tower. The staffs are very kind and polite. They ensure the security of the people.
To get to the bell tower, walk behind the Trump hotel to the Starbucks on 12th street. Next to it is the door for the elevator to the pavilion. Great history and photos when you first enter telling the history of the building. The views are great, and there werent many visitors here. Its worth a visit.
Excellent place! Thank you Trump for turning this VACANT mess into a beautiful museum for the PUBLIC to visit for FREE! He didnt have to do that but its beautiful. Excellent views from a historically significant landmark thats now saved for generations to enjoy.
Its very nice and cool when you get to the top. The only issue is that it took almost 15 to get to the top. You need to take two elevators. But, totally worth it the wait.
A great museum that is attached/inside the trump hotel. Dont worry if you dont have to actually go inside the Trump hotel to get to the viewing platform of the tower. The museum/tower is just a small and quick trip through history, and then your at the top of the tower with a great view of the city. In addition, the staff and national parks workers are very helpful and nice! They are more than willing to answer any questions about the different buildings that can be viewed from the top.
You can visit Trump Hotel and the Old Post Office at the same time! The clock tower view is awesome. I recommend visiting at the beginning of your DC trip to get a birds eye view of downtown and The National Mall.
Beautiful overhead views of Washington. Be sure to get NPS cancellation stamp and all the photo opportunities available. So much history leading up to towers and the overhead views in glass elevator within Trump hotel is fabulous. Happy to see building structure remains as close to original to former glory days.
No need to go up the Washington Monument to get a 360 degree view of DC.
Trump has turned most of this into a hotel, but it is still worth going up into the old bell tower. This is free and gives amazing views of DC with information.
Go up the tower operated by the National Park Service if you get the chance! Take a camera because the views are awesome!
As others have pointed out, it’s not a museum but a history gallery along the hallway leading to the elevator for the clock tower. The vintage photos are really neat. You’ll also learn about the post office building’s design and efforts to prevent its demolition. There are also exhibits on the master plan for Washington DC and why the site was selected to be the nation’s capital. Stop by before or after visiting the clock tower.
If you like history and the USPS
Great view, but there are wires on the windows rather than glass
Fantastic views! All park rangers and hotel staff were super-friendly; we really felt welcome here. Remember to enter at the rear of the Hotel (beside the Starbucks).
People are friendly and you have a nice view even if it is obstructed
Fascinating historical landmark; loved the view from the tower!
Go to the back of the building and enter next to Starbucks - spectacular views of D.C. The Tower is managed by the Park Service and access is free - with elevators to the top. The hotel itself has beautiful marble floors from Italy and stunning crystal chandeliers - if you dont want to pay $3 for coffee at Starbucks - go have a cup at $10. Champagne, meats, cheeses, etc...
Historic 1899 building where visitors can go up to the clock tower for dramatic views of D.C.
Really great place, offering good views over Washington DC. It also explains the history of the site, as it evolved from being a relatively unsafe neighborhood to the construction of the post office.Up to the tower, there are 360 views over Washington. It feels a bit empty, though, so unless interested by the scenery that can be seen from above it is better to avoid.Personally, I recommend going there.
This is our go to spot to take out of town guests—it’s a wonderful 360 degree view of the city!
This was such an unexpected surprise! Had heard some excellent reports but the actual experience was fabulous. Easy to find, unassuming, educational, with views to die for! A “must see” stop on your D.C. trip. Run by National Park Service. MAGA !
Great views of Washington, and theyve really done a nice job with the small museum leading up to it. The whole building is far less depressing than it used to be.
Beautiful views, not busy at all, seems to be an underutilized attraction
Very cool building, one of the best views around.
Nice informative posters on the history of DC and the Old Post Office on the way to the tower. Great view of downtown Washington once up. Bonus view of the atrium on the way up. Oh and free admission!
This museum was a little hard to find. You have to come in through the back of the Trump Hotel near the Starbucks to find the museum. I put it in quotations because its mostly just a hallway with some history of the city on the walls. The best part however is the elevator ride up to the tower with views of the hotel and D.C. I highly recommend finding your way over to this lesser known National Park site and get some great views of the city!
It was great to have access to the top of this tower. And it was free! The views were spectacular. My kids loved it.
Great view of the city.
Great views of Washington DC
A great view of the city, and always relatively less crowded than other museums. Itsa go-to place for me to bring visitors
Highly recommend. Great views from the tower. As an aside, its now owned by Donald Trump. Also, its in the national parks and monuments passport. Dont forget to get your cancelation.
Hidden gem in DC. The tower offers great views of the town without the Washington Monument waits and crowds
Great view of DC. Trump did a great job of saving and restoring this historic landmark. One step in MAGA.
Until the Washington Monument reopens the Old Post Office Tower offers the best views of D.C.
Must see destination when visiting DC or if you live in area. Best views of DC other than from Washington Monument. Recently reopened after renovation.
Amazing a
This was a really neat, off the beaten path museum when I visited a couple years ago, especially for those philatelically inclined. Regardless of your politics, its sad to see it gone.
Great views of the city. Should be better advertised!
Great place to look at DC.
Nice museum. Visit it please.
Big disappointment that it is no longer open at night for one of the most spectacular city views available to the public!
Beautiful view of the city.
Great view
Hard to find entrance. Its right next to Starbucks.
So beautiful place
Beat views in DC
This is not old post, it’s trump hotel !!
It was a post office n now a hotel
Awesome view of Washington!
