Beautiful grounds. I would love to come back and actually explore more - I was only here for a pop-up wedding in the garden. Definitely a must see in Georgetown!
Lovely grounds and probably a nice event space. Interesting history, but a pretty quick visit
Went to a wedding here and it was a beautiful spot. Easy to get to. Great photo spots.
Not much there. Just a few downstairs rooms are furnished. Not worth $10.
Love this place! Full of American allegory. Our founders really thought they had come up with a new goddess, Columbia
Was very excited to go on this tour however could not have been more disappointed. We saw nothing of the original home and only stood the entire tine in an addition with windows and artwork with the docent showing us pictures from a binder.
Beautiful property in nice neighborhood. Perfect for an hour visit to take in some local history. Friendly staff.
Great museum with many artifacts of pre Columbian cultures. And their museum store has a lot of cute things.
The staff there were very friendly and knowledgable. It was interesting entering a house that was so significant in the birth of the American Republic. I was fascinated by the fact that NSCDA or the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America bought the property and made it into its national headquarters. I did not have cash and wish I would have to donate somethibg although I got in for free because of my college id. I would suggest a small donation which the place would greatly appreciate.
Current art exhibit on second floor is simply FASCINATING! Covers so much DC area history that you will NEVER find in a history book! There are so many accomplished women in the DC area (in the past 100 years) that you had no idea ever existed. Small exhibit, but you will read EVERY word beneath the canvases and photographs. The space now has A/C so a slow, casual perusal of the entire Dunbarton House is now possible in the summer. Families: there is generally an admission charge - not a free museum unless you are a member.
Small but enjoyable bit of history. This is a a small historical home built in 1799, which has been restored with furnishings, wall paper and other period pieces. The docent, Dwayn, was knowledgeable and gave an excellent tour full of information and ready to answer questions. Upstairs was a special exhibit on the way they used science to determine the composition of the paints, flooring and to produce the replica wall papers, and information about the National Society of Colonial Dames who bought the house in 1928 and restored it to its federal style origins, opening it to the public in 1932. As a plus, the azaleas were out, in the small garden outside.
What a wonderful house and tour. Had a great time.
Nice venue for an outdoor performance. Sit in the middle - it can be challenging to hear the performers if you don’t.
While once a lovely house and one with ostensibly rich history, the tour of the house itself is brief and scant, though the exhibition the timeline of slavery in North America was significantly more engaging. I would love to see more information on the house and its contents both in the future.
Beautiful historic house. It has three rooms (bedroom, breakfast room, and dinning room) representing three different eras. Gardens are pretty. The Upstairs has an interesting exhibit about slavery.
Wonderful home and gardens and the staff was fantastic. Someone has mapped all the garden, area so you can ask what plant is,what and they can tell you.. great job! We found street parking fairly easy too but its not walking distance to any places to eat ..
Really lovely gardens. Does have rest rooms. Recommend the place have water for guests visiting the building ... important on a hot day. A bit out of the way if you do not have own vehicle ... need public transport (bus) to get you close then walk up to.
Have you ever been here? Then come, take it in, and tell me what you felt! Thanks Dames!
Our company had the privilege to work at the Dumbarton House this past weekend and we loved it! The house is so beautiful and well maintained. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. If your looking for a space in DC that is unique, but also intimate then we highly recommend the Dumbarton House! - Romin (Owner & Professional DJ of Zandi Entertainment)
Beautiful historic home in the heart of Georgetown! I enjoy the outdoor theater performances held there in the summer. You can bring a picnic and purchase wine that goes to an amazing cause!
Great piece of Georgetown history. The guide was a PhD and knew a load of local lore. Its worth a quick trip through if youre in the area.Always feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @joerazz
This is NOT Dunbarton Oaks, which we though it was, but it was nice enough. Its a bit small and not the first muesum Id recommend in DC, but it is interesting.
Stepping into Dumbarton House is stepping back in time to a true Federal Period house. One that is decorated as it was during the owner Joseph Nourses time. The colors are eye-opening to say the least! The docents at Dumbarton know their subject. I have been there multiple times and am always impressed by the knowledge that is possessed by the volunteers.
Excellent tour in the middle of Georgetown
Such a fun place! The house is well-maintained, they do great events and the gardens are lovely!
Our doc ent was wonderful...the house is beautiful...well worth the visit...
Not really worth the effort to get there
Attended a wedding and managed to take in the grounds beforehand. Beautiful gem nestled into Georgetown with a cool history.
I found a snake here. No harm done.
The museum shows how people lived in their daily lives in their homes.
Great house in the federal period.
Beautiful gardens!
Friendly staff and informative exhibits. Worth a stop for sure.
Visited for a friends birthday party. Very cool venue.
Closed when we were there but the gardens were open which made it not a totally wasted trip.
This is a very cool space and a great place to have a wedding
Lovely small historical house and garden that recalls the early days of Washington DC. Not to be confused with the nearby Dunbarton oaks gardens, which is a much larger affair.
Absolutely stunning. Went here for a wedding and I was blown away.
Dont go, dont waste time and money, really not worth it.Be ware.
A wonderful museum and event venue, but most importantly, Dumbarton House is NOT Dumbarton Oaks. The confusion is understandable, but Dumbarton Oaks is different.
Be nice if they updated their Website to indicate they are closed until April for Renovations. Wasted my time going there to find out they are closed.
Beautiful setting, a perfect place to celebrate any occasion. Take your date, walk around.
Dont confuse this place with Dumbarton Oaks
Pretty!
Nicely restored house
Wonderful place for a wedding.
Rich in local history.
Very interesting place.
Thank you Dames!!!!
