Mill has undergone a fresh $3 million renovation. 4 floors of history. Museum guide gave a helpful (and free) talk about how the mill worked. Take a step back in history to explore this gem. A visit takes as little as 10 minutes. You can also learn more about Rock creek there as well.

Nice little spot just outside of downtown DC. Good access to rock creek park, right on the water. Has bathrooms and water as well as an open grassy area and picnic benches. Very small parking area but can park further up along the road. All in all decent place to enjoy the outdoors

Beautiful place that seems to take you back in time. I was hoping to take a tour of the inside but it was closed. Although i was disappointed I got to sit down and watch the stream and enjoy the moment. There are also some informational boards that give you historical facts. There is a parking lot right across the mill and its conveniently close to the national zoo. I parked my car at this parking lot for free and walked to the zoo.

I nerded out way too much here. Well-preserved (and in some areas restored) mill house complete with diagrams and equipment to illustrate their process. Great learning experience for all regardless of age and, naturally, right by the water :)

The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, the premises are dog friendly, and the building itself is kinda neat.We were actually waved down and invited into the building by a park ranger who wanted to pet our dog. Once we got inside we were invited to cool down in front of a large fan, play checkers, and talk about local DC politics. I cannot say enough nice things about the rangers who were there and I wish I could recall their names, they deserve praise. They were knowledgeable about the area but didnt force a message down your throat if you didnt want to talk about a mill.Personally, I didnt find the mill that interesting, but the staff really made it worth a trip. Looking forward to stopping by next time Im walking along Rock Creek.

A hidden gem if you want to add a unique stop to a day in Rock Creek Park. The park rangers and volunteers are welcoming and knowledgable, and theres plenty of posters, books, and photos to help visitors learn about the interesting history of the building. Check their website for occasional special events including a bi-monthly running of the mill. Bonus: its dog-friendly!

A great place to meet up with a running group. There are several trails to follow from this starting point, from easy walking and biking trails to more rugged trail running. Theres also a decent amount of parking spaces and an open lawn for picnicking as well as activities like frisbee or ball tosses.
