Meridian Hill Park was once beautiful and majestic. But now it is overgrown and neglected. There is no water running at all. It is still a great place to relax and hang with friends. The park is still enjoyable even if the water is off. It sits in a beautiful area in uptown DC.

Great place for pictures and a stroll, unfortunately the fountains are not functional at the moment and looks like its been neglected. Needs some attention but still a decent place to visit if you are in the area.

Great park! Especially busy on the weekends when it’s warm out. It has some formal-ish landscape structures, e.g. statues, fountains, symmetrical stairs. The fountains are usually not operational... but really nice when they are actually operational.

This is an amazing park tucked away in DC. There was live music when I was walking through last. Great place to walk around and its definitely big enough to take a while to explore and find all the hidden gems. There are nice views of the surrounding neighborhood at the front and back of the park. And plenty of open seating area.

I used to be in love with this park, with the flowers, the water fountains and all the activities on the grounds of it. Unfortunately, it seems that within the past couple of years this park has been neglected which I do not know why. The grass on the main plaza, the state of the pavement, the state of the park fountains and gardens all speak of a glorious past only. It is a shadow of its good past.

Pretty crowded these days on weekends especially with current pandemic and very few places where people feel they can safely congregate in a group outdoors. Grass often wet and dogs frequently walked here. Be sure to bring something to sit or lay on if plan to come here to picnic or for a bite with friends. Parking scarce so suggest Uber/Lyft, scooter, bicycle or some other means of arrival. Was so packed last there people were sitting in grass by restroom. Decent sized city park with easiest access from 16th Street side.

Fantastic public space, you regularly see friends hanging out, people reading books, open air exercise classes, and families. Well maintained and clean as well. The benches on the north end sometimes have mosquitos (might be stagnant water nearby) but the south end and the center of the park seem better.

Its a serene park with so many activities going on at once but it was peaceful. I saw dog walking, different weddings, band playing, pick nicking, bike club meet, boxing lesson, gymnastics and tourism. I was in awe that is was so much goimg on but yet everyone respected everyones space. I do not know if a permit was needed to Officiate the wedding I performed but it was worth it to reserve.

Landmark. The story of Meridian Hill Park begins in 1819, according to the National Park Service, when John Porter built a mansion on this spot. The location was named Meridian Hill because it was the exact longitude of the original District of Columbia milestone marker. African-American astronomer and mathematician Benjamin Banneker helped set up that milestone marker.

Meridian Hill Park is a structured urban park located in the Washington, D.C. neighborhood of Columbia Heights; it also abuts the nearby neighborhood of Adams Morgan. The park was designed and built between 1912 and 1940. This 12-acre (49,000 m²), formally landscaped site is officially part of the National Capital Parks Unit of the National Park System, and is administered by the superintendent of nearby Rock Creek Park. Meridian Hill Park is bordered by 15th, 16th, W, and Euclid streets NW, and sits on a prominent hill 1.5 miles (2.42 km) directly north of the White House. Since 1969, the park has been also referred to locally as Malcolm X Park. At the time of Washington, D.C.s creation in 1791, the land beneath present-day Meridian Hill Park was owned by Robert Peter, wealthy Georgetown merchant, and was known as Peters Hill. In 1804, President Thomas Jefferson had a geographic marker placed on this large hill. Centered exactly north of the White House, this marker helped to establish a longitudinal meridian for the city and the nation: the White House meridian. After the War of 1812, Commodore David Porter, a naval hero of that war, acquired the hill in 1816 as part of a 110-acre tract of land that he had purchased; he named this property Meridian Hill. On the brow of this prominent hill on his new estate, and close to the marker, Porter then built a large and famous mansion which he also named Meridian Hill.[5] The home faced south with a dramatic view of the White House and the Potomac River. Meridian Hill Park today shares this view.

A delightful park engulfed with history. Mary Foote Henderson envisioned this location for the Presidents & the Peoples house. At evening, its enchantingly alluring. Discover a statue of Dante Alighieri, probably baptized Durante di Alighiero degli Alighieri and often referred to simply as Dante, an Italian poet. Consider this park as a Divine Comedy and enjoy a stroll through the park.
