When you step into this memorial, you are blown away by the sheer size of the statue. You often see this tourist spot on movies or tv programs but you can’t really experience the magic of this place without being in the presence of this great space.It was on my bucket list and I truly am happy that I was able to tick this off.You can not come to Washington DC and not visit this historical memorial site. If you are looking for souvenirs, their is a shop just inside where you can find some great gifts for family and friends.
Very much like a Greek temple. Some of the pics head on look like pennies. As you walk up the steps you notice the distinct change in quality of building material. The statue of Lincoln is huge and looks like he is about to step down and walk out. The view across the reflecting pool to the Washington monument is great especially early morning.
It was beautiful and there weren’t a lot of people out so I got really great pictures. The only thing I’ll say is they need more handrails. My dad is visually impaired so sometimes he has a hard time walking up stairs because of the lack of depth perception. He likes to use handrails to steady himself because of that and there’s like... two out here on opposite sides of the steps. So if you’re in the middle, you have to walk all the way to one of the ends.
How can you do DC and not hit this glorious spot up? Based on the Greek Parthenon, youll get winded going up the steps. But man, its worth it for the views.Easy parking on Constitution or West Basin drive. Theres a lot of 2 or 3 hour parking.. Bathrooms are on the bottom floor behind the stairs. Closest metro is the Smithsonian. For handicap access, head to the south side and go up the ramp past the bathrooms for the elevator.
How could I not give this Memorial that is a tribute to our freedom 5 stars? It was my first time there and Within three minutes I saw a guy get on his knees and propose to his girl and then the beautiful couple in the photos who were getting their engagement photos taken. The whole thing was glorious!
Its big! If youve never been, give yourself some time. I recommend visiting an hour before sunset. Youll get great photos, youll get a good view of the murals inside, and youll get to watch the lights come on illuminating the National Mall. Its also one of the best places to be stuck if theres a storm.
Memorial site honoring our 16th President of the United States. The Lincoln Memorial was designed based on Greek architecture modeled after the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. Step around the back-side of the memorial at night to see a glimpse of the JFK Eternal Flame located across the Potomac River within Arlington National Cemetery.
So so so beautiful to see and experience this monument up close. It is quite impressive all the work that went into the stairs and the statue.
We visited this monument while participating in the 2020 Prayer March. While there were more people there than I had ever seen in my life, this monument was absolutely breathtaking! It was a dream come true to be able to visit and take a picture with. Go see it... it is absolutely worth seeing!
If you are in DC this is a must visit spot not only because its cool, iconic, and educational but because from the Lincoln you can visit five other memorials within just a few steps. Facing out of the Lincoln to the left you have the Vietnam War memorial and to the right you have the Korean war memorial. Straight ahead you have the WWII memorial and the Washington Monument and across the street off to the right you have the MLK memorial. So if you are in town make this a stop but you can see so much in small area.
Worth visiting at least once in your life. The reflecting pool is beautiful and serene. It was larger than I expected.
Beautiful! It was especially Beautiful at night! Love the writings and the artistry above them. Dont forget to look at the spot where Mr Martin Luther King stood. He gave the I had a dream speech there.
Most of the parking is blocked off during the pandemic so park far and expect to walk a lot. Some of the bathrooms are locked and people have left some messes outside. Once you get past that problem youll see the memorial and reflecting pool are truly breathtaking. The World War II memorial is nearby. The Washington monument is within walking distance. Its a popular place for running, renting a bike or scooter. Inside the memorial it is solemn. It has the feeling of a Cathedral and people are required to be quiet and respectful of the memorial. There is a small area below with many Lincoln quotes.
Lincoln memorial is located behind the Washington memorial. A humbling and awe-inspiring place to be. You can sit there and admire his greatness all day. Parking is difficult. Rent one of them scooters or bicycles laying around with your credit card for about a dollar a mile. It was worth it.
We visited there in the morning. Chosen a weekday visit to avoid crowd and I was a good hit. We faced very less people. Lucky to visit this since it was one of my bucket list trip.You can get a great sight of the Mall and it’s reflection. The memorial was worth a visit .
Architecture, lighting.. a total breathtaking site. If you come to DC you must visit certain landmarks, certainly the Lincoln Memorial has to be in your list. He represent many things in the history of the U.S.A, therefore you need to understand it and visit. You may take a cab or depending on the time of the year is great to walk.There is easy access and the view of the Mall and DC is great.
This is my favorite Memorial so far. If you care about our history theres so many things that have happened here. Its very surreal to be standing in the same spot that many important people have come to visit or pay homage to as well. Theres something very special about Washington DC and this Memorial in particular. Its beautifully preserved and a must see on your list.
History! If you go, actually read his words written throughout the memorial. The Gettysburg address on the left, take 5 minutes, read it start to finish, and think about what those words mean. Really reflect on what it means. Its an important exercise for any American right now.
Ill be honest, it took sheer will and determination for me to walk up the steps. But once I got to the top, it was definitely worth it. Its one of the best spots to visit if you ever come to DC...until you have to go back down the stairs.
Ive waited my whole life to see this. It was even better than I imagined. Though, the night life gets a little out of control when it gets dark out. Some teens were twerking to music on the steps and its supposed to be a quiet place. But all in all, the photos and movies dont even do it justice. My friend and I sat on the steps last night. I just appreciated the view of something so monumental. Cant wait to come back.
I came to Washington earlier this year for the day. The memorial and statue itself is exeptional, its better than the pictures. It was great looking down from the memorial and seeing the reflecton of the monument in the reflecting pool.I would recommend not missing out on seeing the 16th president, along with some other must see sights.
The magnitude of this in person is amazing. Just to see this up close will stick with me forever. A must see but when you go make sure you get plenty of photos for lifetime memories

Always enjoy visiting the Lincoln Memorial and admiring this amazing work of art. It is a timeless reminder of true leadership and hope. An absolute must-see if you are only in DC for a day or two. Even during the pandemic there is usually enough space on the National Mall leading up to the memorial to have a socially-distanced run, jog, or walk by yourself or with a couple of friends.
Sit and people watch day and night. Night is better (and cooler.) I could sit on the steps for hours chatting with friends and enjoying the evening. The back of the Lincoln has a neat view as well, and tends to have fewer people.
The grandeur of the memorial is emblematic of the high thinking of President Lincoln. All the monuments in Washington in honor of the founding fathers are impressive and awe-inspiring just like their words and deeds. Lovely place.
Love it... its a must visit when you are in Washington. You can feel the peace and the respect for this monument.It was raining and my 15 months old baby got soaked but she didnt care. We all did.So much fun and it worth the travel from NYC to DC in 1 day roundtrip. I will love to do that again with my family. Place was not crowded. But I cant say in a sunny warm day but it Must be a different story.
How can you review a place like the Lincoln Memorial? Over the past several years, my wife and I have been on a mission. The purpose? To visit all 50 states with our children. We only have one left. The District of Columbia is on the list as a must visit. There are so many monuments and statues, and museums. Where do you begin? The Lincoln Memorial is historic and beautiful and inspiring. Weve visited Gettysburg, so my kids have a grasp of the history. Seeing this monument to a great man is awe inspiring. If you have the chance, you must visit. Its that simple.

The matter lay dormant until the start of the 20th century, when, under the leadership of Senator Shelby M. Cullom of Illinois, six separate bills were introduced in Congress for the incorporation of a new memorial commission. The first five bills, proposed in the years 1901, 1902, and 1908, met with defeat because of opposition from Speaker Joe Cannon. The sixth bill, introduced on December 13, 1910, passed. The Lincoln Memorial Commission had its first meeting the following year and United States President William H. Taft was chosen as the commissions president. Progress continued at a steady pace and by 1913 Congress had approved of the Commissions choice of design and location.There were questions regarding the commissions plan. Many thought that architect Henry Bacons Greek temple design was far too ostentatious for a man of Lincolns humble character. Instead they proposed a simple log cabin shrine. The site too did not go unopposed. The recently reclaimed land in West Potomac Park was seen by many to be either too swampy or too inaccessible. Other sites, such as Union Station, were put forth. The Commission stood firm in its recommendation, feeling that the Potomac Park location, situated on the Washington Monument–Capitol axis, overlooking the Potomac River and surrounded by open land, was ideal. Furthermore, the Potomac Park site had already been designated in the McMillan Plan of 1901 to be the location of a future monument comparable to that of the Washington Monument.
I found a convenient, walking-friendly, paid parking space. I wanted to recreate a photo from my youth, but their were too many people. Might try again when it is colder. It was difficult to get a shot alone without people crowding your space.
It was wonderful to see. It made my Heart feel Great that I live in this Country. 1st time I have seen it in 75 years and it was well worth it.

Perfect reflection in the pool with Lincoln Memorial lit up in clear evening sky. Maybe a hundred people milling around at 8pm. Very exciting to see the diversity of faces and rolling transport. More important than ever in these divisive times

An amazing testimony to our history and a president who changed the course of history. Please dont just look at the wonderful statue of president Lincoln, but take time to read his words engraved on the walls. His look over the mall is inspiring.
It was a really beautiful place, nothing compared to pictures. No pictures I took did any justice. I loved how it wasnt crowded at all and everyone was either distancing or wearing mask when going inside the memorial.
The essence of this man is too great for this building but it is a fitting tribute to a president who fought to save the Union.

Memorial honoring a deserving President who abolished slavery and united a nation. His legacy should love for every. Sheer size of statue is quite impressive but it is an incredible piece of art. Amazing building with great view down the national mall of Washington Monument and the Capital building behind it.
President Lincolns monument is much larger in person when you visit. My brother and I took time to sit on the stairs and reflect on life which is exactly what the reflections pool is meant for. Iconic time in history represented here and would highly recommend taking time to enjoy what this symbol has given us as American history grows. PS - One day my brother and I plan to come back and play chess or checkers on the stairs all afternoon to enjoy the simplicity and good nature this symbolic structure brings.

We were in Washington DC during cherry blossom season last March and the city was amazingly beautiful.Lincoln Memorial Hall is one of the most famous and must visit landmarks, which is in lots of movie scenes.The stoned building is classy, elegant and magnificent. There is a statue of Lincoln in the middle of the peaceful hall and you can feel the mighty greatness while standing next to it.
It is a great monument. Historical and beautiful. You get an amazing view of the Washington monument with a reflection on the water body . Beneath the Lincoln memorial, there is a small museum. Dont forget to visit that. A must see for all.
Truly majestic in scale, the Lincoln Memorial is an iconic part of a DC visit. In light of the current divisions were facing in our nation, his words were a poignant and timely reminder.
Nice place. I was there during second week of August. It was freaking hot. A good time for visiting would be the last week of August or may be starting from September.
Lincoln. An American icon and one of the greatest presidents. The monument only solidifies his stature as a great man who brought the country back together. The sheer size of the monument is breathtaking and while very busy with people it was still enjoyable to take in his two most famous speeches and the view from the front steps. Dont forget to stand on the place Dr King gave his own speech I have a dream and look out to the reflecting pool. A monument to history that continues to take part in history is Stark reminder of how far our country has come and how far it still has to go.

I have wanted to see this monument my whole life and I finally was able to. There is so much history in this monument and you can definitely feel it just being there. One of the greatest experiences of my life to visit.

Its gigantic. If you look from the right direction, you will feel like in the Athenian Acropolis. No offense, Greek brothers. An amazing impression. The Linkolna monument is also huge. Great view of the Reflecting Pool and Washington Monument/Memorial.
Who doesnt feel something profound from visiting this site? We walked the Rock Creek Park trail to get there along the Potomac from Georgetown then sat on the benches and watched the people. A must see when visiting Washington.

One of my absolute favorite places to visit in Washington DC. If you haven’t gone it’s a must see. The view of the lawn all the way to the Capitol is absolutely breathtaking. It’s a beautiful place to sit and think. The reflecting pools are unreal too. It’s amazing to think about how many times this great area has been full of people fighting for what they believe in. So much energy, power and beauty. If your in our nations capitol be sure to take the time to go see Lincoln.

The Lincoln Memorial has a nice & big infrastructure! With a statue of Abraham Lincoln inside .You can get inside for free and it has a-lot of space.A 360 walk around the infrastructure with a beautiful view which you can see the Washington monument from a different perspective!Many historical facts on panels.You can sit down and relax on the staircase outside with no issues!make sure to check it out if it’s your first time !

One of the most seen and important memorials in Washington. Shown on many movies and videos. Very Very busy during veterans day. There truck for food evry other step. Very interesting pictures. And there are commercial planes flying over the monument every 2 minutes. Its a must see!
So much history happened at this spot. If you stop and hold still for a moment you can actually feel the energy of the space. Standing on top of the steps imagine the people protesting as you look down the pool. Look for the stone showing where Dr MLK stood.

Why is Lincoln enshrined? History is a reflection of who is telling the story. Im not sure this memorial is telling the complete truth.

Its as awesome as you probably think it is. Sometimes it can be tough to enjoy, because all the people are there. Every single one of them. At night, there are less people, but still quite a few. It is a much cooler experience at night, though.
Rich in American history and a display of our national spirit. Just being here revives ones patriotism.

We came here for the National Sunrise Service on Easter Sunday. WOW!!!I recommend putting it on your bucket list. Im not sure if any members of Congress were there, but I would vote to make it a requirement.The memorial is beautiful and so very well maintained considering it is open 24/7 year-round. Sitting on the steps and looking at DC is a great treat.

A MUST Visit when in Washington,DCTry to visit at night if you can, the view is Amazing and it has a different feel about it! There is a ramp for those who cannot climb stairs & Don’t forget to take the elevator to the bottom floor for information on how the Memorial was built & other interesting info. The reflecting pool is beautiful at night & is very popular for photo ops. During the day they have a snack stand not far away that is open as well. The tree lined path way on either side of the reflecting pool is a nice walk to the WWII MEMORIAL as well.
An awesome tribute to a stunning American president. Dazzling spot to home base for a couple. The perspective on the reflecting pool is marvelous. The pool mirrors the Washington landmark here! The name of the 50 States on the top are so wonderfully composed. Nightfall is an incredible time to catch some wonderful photographs. There is an open bathroom and little penny exhibition hall at the base of the structure left the side of the staircase outside.
