Ive never been there before. The seats were great. The room is big, but small enough that wherever you are sitting youll have good seats. Its a two items per person minimum, which is most comedy clubs. And absolutely no cell phone use. Which was refreshing because everyone is paying attention and are present. Plus it helped seeing Michelle Wolf whos absolutely hilarious. All in all, a pretty awesome experience.
Good drinks and good laughs. I went there a week ago and they are definitely taking precautions for COVID-19. The waitresses were responsive, drinks were ready quickly and the popcorn is good. Overall I enjoyed myself. There’s also a really good Mexican restaurant next door incase you want to get dinner first.
First time attending. Food was way better quality and bigger portion size than what I was expecting! Venue had a smooth check in process. We were seated promptly and a waitress came over almost immediately to take our order. Food came out quickly. Talent was too notch and worth the price of the show. The staff even went above and beyond when I forgot something on my table after the show, they helped track it down and get it to me. Will definitely be back!
Went here for my sisters birthday. Had a great time the atmosphere was great. D C is fun. Aries Spears is very funny he has a humor that makes you think then laugh. The show was about two hours long. And they have others coming in the next year prices very. Also drinks where served, along with water. And they have a good food menu as well. I had the root beer float and the chicken salad, with their house dressing a honey lime dressing, guacamole and sour cream, the chicken was grilled. Others has quesadillas and fries hamberger sliders pork sliders with fries the list is endless. The comic started to mess with the crowd, which by the way if you do not like close spaces or being close to other people who are strangers then this is not the place for you. The crowd was mixed and sophisticated. Young and old. A beautiful fun time to be had. Parking was taken care of by the place right next to the hotel where the event took place. And was a good price for parking.
It was a fun experience. We went for a private corporate event. We had both appetizers and a meal, and each course was good. Especially for a comedy/improv spot which you would expect to be closer to bar food vs restaurant quality. The staff was friendly and helpful. The comedy was pretty good. They did a great job engaging with the audience. There were laugh out loud moments, and some dry jokes, but overall a really good experience hence the 4 stars.
The will call and line situation was surprisingly quick and easy. They have the logistic process nailed. While tight seating is expected, its way too tight. Servers could barely navigate the space, pillars were in the way, and lighting was so dim it was hard to see our bill. Speaking of which, not only did our server mess up the bills with the couple next to us by mixing up our orders, she also messed up who paid for what. Great comedy and an average location.
Great venue! Staff is super friendly, food and drinks are great. Our server, Will had a great personality and was all around amazing. We attended the live taping for Paris Sashay and she was HILARIOUS! Everyone must check her out. Anthony Oakes opened for her and I will definitely go see him again. He is just awesome! I mean, pee in your pants hilarious.
I went to the Improv last night (12/17) and had a BLAST. I went only to support a friend who was performing. My expectations were pretty low, but everything was wonderful - easy walk from Metro, friendly staff, good beer selection, plenty of seating, and the performance was very, very good. Good enough for TV? No, not that good, but sincerely funny the whole time, there was no forced laughter at all. The instructor, Chris Ulrich, did an outstanding job and really was a facilitator - he made the show work without ever stealing it away from the performers. One final comment - the show was *free*, so this has to rate as one of the best entertainment bargains in the city. Ill be back for Februarys graduation. Nothing beats an hour+ of laughing to reduce stress!
I dont think Ive ever been to a 5 star comedy club. This one is not bad. The food and drink selection is decent although the DC burger gave me some serious indigestion. The comedians were very good. Id say above average on this particular night. Its worth checking out.
I wish I could give 4.5 stars. The -.5 is because they are going to pack you in...tight. I guess thats just how comedy venues go.The 4.5 is for: the great, courteous and professional staff. Its also for the fair price to a great head lining act with 3 superb opening acts (2.5 hours worth of quality comedy for our experience). The DC Improv Comedy Club has its act together and it shows. We had a great time. Bought tickets online with ease (gotta get em quick) and were seated promptly (with a bit of options...). The food was decent too.Would highly recommend attending when your favorite act is in town or for their variety of other features. With anything in DC, research your parking. Went on a Sunday and most parking garages near the Improv are closed....Will be going back.
Great service. Went for open mic night on a weekday. Garage next door closed at 8 so parked on the street. Bathrooms were clean, food was good. Arrive when doors open to get choice of seats. I had a great time. Show lasted 2 hours. Good variety of comedians. Pretty big room. If sold out, Id imagine seating would feel a little cramped but we were good for this night. I will be returning
Great place. Seating area is good. Not a bad seat in the whole venue. Strongly suggest parking in their garage and not on the street. Recently, the neighboring streets around the venue where cars are parked had their windows smashed out.
The food was as expected, the drinks came on time, and the comedy was hot! Great place to treat someone for their birthday. It was mine and another guy who got swayed with us. We did have to wait outside much longer than expected, so maybe dress warmly in case the doors open late. That was just a hiccup in an otherwise perfect night :)
Went here to see Ali, the host and the opening comedian were absolutely hilarious alongside Ali. Really yummy food and great service. Super organized. Highly recommend!
Seriously, amazing service and great small intimate atmosphere. DC Improv is known for major headlines and rich history. Its only a few blocks from the nearest Metro station. Get there early, at least 30 minutes prior to when the doors open, to secure best seats. Your seater will greet you at the door and walk you to your desired seat or available seat. The drinks and food are standard. I recommend the Chipotle black bean burger with honey mustard on the side, YUM!
The comedians were top-notch. I was rolling in stitches the entire time. The food was very good and the wait staff was attentive and always had a fresh drink. I hope to make this a regular part of my DC experience every time Im in town
Saw a premium episode of Doug Loves Movies on 6/9/2019. Guests were Dale Cheesman, Geoff Tate, Rob Maher and Mo Amer. It was a fantastic show! I was very pleased that I got a picture with the guests after the show (except for Rob) and they all signed my nametag for free (including Rob)!My friend recommended the BBQ wings and she was correct, they were very good. If youre looking to get a large amount of food for your $, I would suggest getting the nachos. A person near me ordered them and the pile was like 8 inches tall in the center and it covered the whole plate. The bathrooms are small but clean. If you are fortunate enough to get a seat in the center of the stage, you will be eating and laughing at very close proximity to other pleasant folks that youve never met. They really pack that zone tightly.
Love this place. Always good service. Had first opportunity to see a comedy show in the lounge room which is separate from the main room. It is smaller room but the table setup gives you alot more room to be comfortable.
While the comedy was great, the dining experience was not.First of all, they turn the lights down so low you cannot see anything you are eating, or if you drop some salsa from a nacho. We were not given silverware. Cocktails, while cheap somewhat, were mostly ice and mixer/soda.Overall not bad, but I probably wont return for the dining, just the comedy.
I have seen countless shows here and I absolutely love this place. Quite literally my man and Is favorite thing to do! Wish there was a smidge more room around the tables but other then that this place is amazing.
Had a good time with a good line up, which makes the experience better. But they try to pack the room like sardines - tables and chairs almost on top of each other. Round table made for 2, they seat 4; square table for 4, they put 6! Not comfortable and the room is jacked up on the layout. Obstructed view to the stage from many spots. So get there early to get a decent seat.
I had such a great time going here to watch Dan Cummins perform. The venue is small and intimate which I certainly prefer over a large auditorium. I arrived early and was able to sit right in front of the stage. The servers are attentive and took excellent care of the table that I was at. This was my first experience at the improv. I have already purchased tickets for another show in March.
This place would be so much better if they didnt try to pack so many people on top of each other. Why dont they just charge more per ticket instead of cramming 300- 400 people in a 100 - 200 seated room??? Great shows! Great food! Great staff! Horrible seating.
It was a really good funny happy hour. The drinks were strong, thats a plus, the nachos were good. Thursday night and made it back home before eleven PM small tables, mixed crowd. I had a nice time.
This place was amazing! I laughed so hard I almost passed out. The people here are so nice! Some Comedy Clubs can be clicky, but not here! Everyone was so nice, friendly, welcoming, and most of all FUNNY!
My husband and I love going here. This was our second visit and we saw Gary Owens. We were not disappointed. This time we both ordered salads. He got the Ahi Tuna Salad and I got the Southwest Chicken Salad. They were both wonderful. They are under the title of Big Fresh Salads and that is not a lie. They are big and fresh. Service is prompt and friendly. If you are shy be prepared to have to share a table with other guest. That is not a problem for my husband and I. We also like to sit at the high tables. We feel we are able to see the stage clearly with out anyone blocking our view. We will be returning and will try the chicken wings.
Great staff. Great comedians. Forget all that! The steak on the nachos was so tender it blew my mind.
Awesome experience. Had never gone to a comedy show before. All three comedies were quite funny. Its a tight fit to get everyone in there and not much room at your table, but it was a fun time. Food was good, drinks were good service was on top of drink orders. Very intimate feel and vibe for the show and atmosphere. Excellent night out. Will do again
I always love the DC improv comedy shows. Its pretty tight seating and the chairs are not very comfortable, but its 100% worth it. We were seated right up against the stage and were about 3 feet from Michelle Wolf, so needless to say it was a perfect night
It was ok. Thank goodness I was prepared to be a but crowded, because people were actually sitting very close to each other. The food and the drinks were good and the servers were quick with bringing orders to the table.
Great comedy venue. Nice an close to the talent. Friendly servers. Fair prices.
Good place for a date night or entertaining with family and friends. Great food and drink. Local and guest celebrity comedians.
Service was good. Menu very limited and the space is very small and tight. They try to fit as many people inside as possible making it uncomfortable. My husband is 6ft 7 and the seats were very short so we requested to sit at a high top table. Thankfully we arrived early enough to have the option. I felt sorry for the couple seated at the table with us because they were on the outside and had to move each time the servers or anyone walked by. If you are a party of 2 youre seated with another pair. Bathrooms werent the cleanest.
Loved the atmosphere and love the food! Its a comedy club so expect the room to be a bit tight but that is whats expected! Love the lineup schedule in advance and the best part is VALET PARKING is so convenient!! Definitely will be coming back to see Sheryl Underwood and Karlous Miller to name a few!
Food and drinks were on point & reasonablypriced. sound system was good. Id definitely go back.
Had an amazing night here, full of nonstop laughs! The MC was awesome super charasmatic and nice, overall great vibes great people
Went to Rob Schneider event. Though crowded, well-serviced. Great burger, prompt service, really enjoyed the show.
Two VERY important points you should know before you visit this place:1) DC Improv tacks on a hidden service fee right before purchasing tickets. In our case this was a $7 charge on two $17 tickets. This is nearly a 20% increase in the cost. DC Improv offers no justification or reason for what service this charge is for, but appears to be a money grabbing tactic.2) There is a 2 item per person food or drink requirement when attending. This is a little more apparent if you read the fine print on the website, but at $7.25 per beer, expect a minimum of +$30 to the cost of your visitOther:My wife and I visited on a comedy showcase night and had mixed feeling of the experience. The venue rooms are small so expect to be potentially seated with strangers as they frequently sell out on weekends. The performances were a mixed bag: 1 performer was excellent, a few above average and one was so bad the room was silent nearly the whole performance. Our server was very attentive and accommodating. We only had drinks so I cant speak to the quality of the food, but prices range from about $9 for appetizers and $10-15 for entrees. Drinks range from $7.25 a beer to about $10-15 for cocktails. 18% gratuity on parties of 6 or more.Overall a nice place and decent comedy, I hope this review helps you better prepare for expected costs of your visit.
Had so much fun tonight! Affordable tickets. Pretty affordable drinks and food.
I really enjoyed myself at the Tony Rock show this is my second time here came to see Bruce Bruce as well. The salad was the bomb chicken salad very fulfilling and the barbecue wings!!! Yasss food there is on point. My suggestion is to get there a little early as they seat on a first come basis overall I will be back :)
Comedy was good, did not particularly care for the seating arrangements. People all over each other. Had a lot of back and forth foot traffic Which kinda interfered with the show.
Absolutely loved the event!! Prices for the show are reasonable, but Im not really happy about the two items minimum requirement they have.
Awesome & iconic venue for enjoying comedy or stepping out of ones boundaries & trying improv or stand up.
Love the DC Improv! They always have great comedians. My friends and I went to see Margaret Cho and had a great time! If you want a night of fun and laughter, come to this place!
Such a fun night. We went for improv pun night. the stories were really funny and the host was very entertaining.
The shows are great! The service and food are mediocre. Still a fun time!
Had a GREAT time with my friends! Easily accessible by car or metro. Parking garage close by. The night we went there was a murder mystery show... Fun. The food was great and the wait staff was very good. Ill be back!
Great venue for intimate comedy show experience. If you want your pick of seats be sure to arrive early.
Great show, great staff. Some of the food is really good, some of it is mediocre, and the drinks are pretty weak. But overall, a great evening out and would totally do it again.
I went to see Finesse Mitchell here about 6 months ago. The service was great and the food and drinks were good as well. I cant wait to go back to see another show!
Great night seeing Bill Bellamy again. He always put on a great show. Food and service is always amazing.. Thank you DC Improv for my prize ( DC Improv cap)
Love this place . Super plus being g a dmv native
Me and my sisters in spirit went to see Sheryl Underwood. Although the show was entertaining, the place itself and the way some of the staff treat their patrons...was not!The venue is very tight, tables are super uber small kiddie tables. Your so close to the next table you can smell their breath or their fart. Some of the wait staff seemed overwhelmed. Minimum two item order from the menu and no place to put your food or your drink. Our waitress told us to make do. Kept getting bumped by the servers all night.Went to the restroom before the show ended. Facilities were not clean. Not blaming that soully on the staff...we have some very trifling females at this event. Toilet paper all over the floor. Women not flushing...not even sure if they washed their hands.Once departing, since I had surgery on my right ankle we thought we could take the elevator up. We saw others in the hall who appeared to be waiting and well. When the elevator arrived the security staff would not anyone on...he direct is to take the stairs stating you walked down here didnt you, then you need to walk back up. I still couldnt grasp why he didnt tell us that when he saw us standing waiting on the elevator. The cold weather does a number on my ankle so walking and standing isnt at its best. It was 11 degrees outside. The were rushing people out like we were cattle. I tried to sit in the lobby of the adjacent office building for a minute and to told I couldnt sit down. We tried to stand in the vestibule to stay out of the cold. Was told we couldnt stand there. Our Uber driver was running late...I understand thats not their fault..but when you kindly ask security can you huddle in a corner of the building to keep warm and they flat out tell you no...it seems hardless..And whats the deal with having folks for the second show report to will call outside as cold as it was. The little tickets they hand you can be easily lost..for the money you spend you think youd get better than an carnival ticket and a black and white program that was Xeroxed. We will return...nope surely will not.
I had a wonderful time at the Improv. Cheryl Underwood is a real down to earth comedian.
Too crunched up with the seating but I had a good time. But seating is trash
Great venue, excellent service, good food and beer and, oh, yeah, funny comics.
Great club, but the tables and spacing is very tight and close together. The food (chicken tenders & fries) was good and quickly served. Drinks were good as well.
Great size. Space for a lot of people but still feels full and feels like you’re part of the crowd. There are TVs so even if you are not close to the stage, you can still see the artist.I went for a pun competition, and it was hilarious. I definitely want to go back.
This place has the whole process down to a science. I went to see Michelle Wolf last night and there was a bag check. The whole bag check, pat down, ticket and seating process was a breeze. The food was decent for bar food and the had a decent selection of drinks. We were seated right near the front so we had a great view but we were too close to the speakers and Im old so it was extra loud! Theres also a parking garage right next door and its super close to Farragut North and West. I will definitely be back for more shows.
Enjoyed. Was different than I imagined. I will definitely go back on near future to check out a show.
Great and cozy venue! Food was good and service was fantastic. Cant wait to come back.
Great show and great service. I enjoyed the experience a ton!
The talent was great! However the management(Tiffany) and the seating host for this club were absolutely “laughable”(horrible) in regards to customer service. Our party of four showed up 40 minutes early to a GENERAL ADMISSION show. Which we thought would get us a decent seats to the show. When we entered the space, the host tried to sit us at a side table of the venue, with restricted view, and I asked if we could sit at one of the numerous open center tables that had an unobstructed view instead? The host replied, “um no, because we reserve those for people who arrive late, and only for 5 tops”. I then mentioned the fact that the table looked like it was only for four people, and asked where it stated you are only able to sit at a table per exact amount of people in your party? The host who was extremely rude, then said it doesn’t state that on the tickets, but that was the clubs policy. Even though the tickets for the early show clearly state: *For events in the lounge showroom, all shows regardless of start time are seated by time of arrival.*I then asked for a manger, and her name was Tiffany. The host explained the situation, and then she became extremely unprofessional/rude towards us, and explained that they only allow 5 people to sit at 5 tops, and that was just the way it is because it was a sold out show, and they do not want to lose out on seats. So my real question in all of this is why do they have general admission advertised show, when you CLEARLY have assigned seats based on the number in your party? Even if you show up 40 minutes early to try and get a good seat? The management and seating host for this venue were unprofessional, and clearly did not care about customer retention or client satisfaction. I would not recommend this club until there service improves, it’s just not worth wasting your time. Find the comedians that are doing the standup somewhere else where you will be treated with respect. I know for one, I will not be attending this venue ever again, and or wasting my time or money to promote a business who does not care about the customer.
Staff was friendly, place is nice, small but nice. Food was brought to us very fast. We ordered wings, spinach dip, chicken quesadilla and potato skins. The wings werent bad but the rest of the food had no flavor. None. However, we had a great time and Id definitely go back. Ill stick to drinks with my required two item minimum order.
Great venue that always has a lot of fun comedians coming through.
This is a great spot to have a meal and a good time. I wish they had a few more allergy friendly items on the menu.
The show was great, drinks and food came out in good time still hot, staff was prompt and friendly, more space is needed but if you get there early enough and get a good spot, you can definitely make it work. There is a back but no seats were too far from the stage. Would definitely go again.
Always great stand up comics here. Their 2 item minimum and not 2 drink minimum is great.
Absolutely no view of the stage. Paid the same price as everyone r else but did not see any of the show.
Great! Only thing that could improve is bathroom facilities.
It was a great time. Nice location. Food was good - big wings and portion size of fries - will order 1 instead 2 fries next time. Hate that I forgot the waitress name but she was very nice.
Great option for an entertaining night of laughter. We went to see John Witherspoon and Sommore recently. Low key spot thats worth the price. Just expect to be in tight seating quarters. You are packed in without much room, but it works for the most part.
Nice place, they really pack you in for a big show. There is a supposed to item minimum, but we were so packed in and servers were so busy, we didnt get to offer a second drink. Fortunately, the two drink minimum was not enforced.
Had great time Ali shaddiq was hilarious and the guy with the deer joke from D.C. was great.
Great fun. Top comedians. No joke.
Ive seen 3 shows at the Improv: Roy Wood, Jr, Gary Owen & DL Hughley. They were all great shows. The food is enjoyable, as well. It is an intimate room for comedy. The down side is the seating is tight, but Ill be back for more shows. The prices are reasonable.
Donnel Rawlings was hilarious. The club was conveniently located to downtown DC, not to far from K-street. So, many restaurants and hotels were nearby. Drinks and food were good as well at the Improv.
The DC Improv is an small and intimate venue. The customer service is awesome. Show tickets are always affordable and I have seen almost every comedian here. Since the tickets are so cheap customers are expected to order at least 2 drinks or food. I have tried several dishes from the menu and all my food came out fast and hot. Tip: Get there early especially for sold out shows because the seats are first come first serve.
Nice but waaaaaaay to packed. The guy beside me was almost on my lap.
Had a AWESOME time. Aries Spears gave a GREAT show.! Thanks DC Improv!!
Saw Bruce Bruce recently. They have great performers. It is close. I hate going to DC, but I will venture there for and with the right folk.
What Clemons and Parlour Miller did a great show!
Drinks: good. Atmosphere: good. Comedians: great.
