The show was great! Finally got to see David Arnold in person. The venue, however, had a terrible way of holding people prior to their show starting. They had everyone go downstairs to a bar area and wait. There is a 2 drink minimum for the comedy show but while you are waiting downstairs near a huge bar, we are informed that nothing that is purchased downstairs counts towards the requirements upstairs during the show. The level of discomfort downstairs, with plenty of other waiting patrons, was extremely high. There was no type of organization to this First Come First Serve event. They just had everyone go downstairs and wait. Something needed to happen with tickets or names being recorded or anything once a patron arrives so that they can keep track of who came in first. Im sure if I hear another comedian is going to be at this Venue, Ill pass and just travel a further distance to see the comedian.
We went for a profs and pints events. The show itself was awesome, and a really good experience with a good speaker. But we were underwhelmed by the food and service. We were informed that it was table service, but had to go to the bar after waiting 20+ minutes with no-one taking our order. And the food itself was not great. The nachos, besides arriving way later than the other dish we had ordered (forgotten?), were particularly tasteless and felt like somebody had microwaved cheese on top of cheap tortilla chips. Beers were good, but neither of our first choices based on the draft beer list were available.TL;DR: Go for the profs and pints experience, not for the food or drinks.
Terrible, atrocious, appalling service. There may not be enough words to describe how bad our experience was here. When attempting to place a drink order we were repeatedly dismissed (once by the bartender and three times by separate servers), then eventually lied to as my card was falsely charged for a drink we never even received. We attended a talk here last night as part of the Profs and Pints series. We arrived 20 minutes early with hopes of getting settled with a drink before the talk started. The place was packed, so my girlfriend went up to the bar to get a beer. The bartender wouldnt give her a beer and instead told her to return to her seat and a server would be by to take her order. A number of servers were around and we attempted to request the beer and three more times we were told that our server would eventually be by. The talk started and we still werent able to place a drink order. It was 40 minutes after our arrival that a server came and took my partners order along with my credit card. Fifteen minutes later, a different server returned my credit card and said our server will bring the beer. Well, that beer never came and the talk started to wrap up. As the server came by to collect the plates and empty glasses of others around us, I informed her that we never received the beer and I wanted assurance that I would not be charged. She apologized and said the card was not charged. This seemed to be confirmed as she returned with receipts for everyone in our section and did not give us one. This morning I see that my card was indeed charged for the beer that we never received. Now, I am being further inconvenienced because the staff here is either lazy or deceitful and I am being forced to request a refund for service I was not provided. I cant describe how infuriating it is to go to a tavern and find it impossible to order a beer in spite of numerous attempts, then to be charged for the rude and terrible service which provided us with literally nothing but frustration and a fraudulent charge.
The Weirdo Show on the third Friday of almost every month is unique, vaudevillian, burlesque-style and comedic entertainment with varying performers and refreshing humor unlike anything else in town! Only Baltimore has more of this type of show! I have enjoyed my times there and look forward to taking friends, again to enjoy the witty “banter”!It is affordable fun in an intimate space with great beer choices! Try a shot of Dr. Stoner’s Smokey Herb whiskey, crafted in Virginia Beach!
Its not that big but its nice. Food is good. No top shelf liquor but still good
This place was actually pretty nice and the show was lovely. Its a little small so get there early to get a good seat. There winds were excellent and the server was very entertaining as well
We attended the variety show on NYE. Very disappointed. In the first hour and a half that we were there we saw 30s of dancing and listened to 2 min of bad puns and received only 3 of the four drinks we ordered. The chairs were uncomfortable, space cramped, hot, and dirty; all of this with no entertainment to distract us from the slow service. This was not worth the ticket price at all and we left early to find a better venue to celebrate the New Year
Nice intimate location for a max group of 4. Anymore than that, youll be sitting on top of each other. The food was great! Drinks were pricey for the amount you get. If youre used to the improv, you may be a little discouraged of the look but, the atmosphere is pretty cool.
The customer service is amazing! Several unique beers on tap. And the food was decent. Love the overall atmosphere of the Bier Baron. Its quintessential DC.
Relatively cheap hotel in good and central location. The building is old but rooms are renovated. The pub is mainly for artitic performances and closes after those. Rooms are rather small which did not bother me. Location is superb, a good 5 minutes walk to Dupont Circle Metro through a P-Street which is lined with small shops and restaurants.
Shows are very entertaining and the prices for food/drink are reasonable. They even offer vegan options that arent a damn salad. Cozy and fun ambience that makes me want to go back again.
Has an old school bar feel... college basement type atmosphere. Hoping that the owners will invest in updates for the sake of the performers and the customers.
The comedy show was fantastic but started 1 hour later than the stated time, which made a very tense atmosphere.
Good prices and a hard working team. The lot of them. Small place. You should get a good seat early.
2 Item minimum for shows but the menu is a lot better than DC Improv. Can viably get a dinner and a show at a great price!
Great beer selection. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Great venue.
I’ve never experienced a more unorganized show venue. They TRIPLE BOOKED the place and forced everyone to wait downstairs in an overcrowded basement while the two other shows finished up. We paid extra for early admissions and had to stand downstairs for almost two hours before we got let up in a mess of people. The staff has no idea what was going on and kept telling us different instructions before finally coming to a consensus on where to send us. Worst part was instead of letting us in through the main entrance for the show they forced us to form a long line through the service hallway in the back of the restaurant where the servers were running in and out with food and drinks for the shows upstairs. And when we finally were starting to let in they told us they informed us the room did not have enough room for everyone. We ended up leaving because it was so packed with no tales available. Never again will I ever come to this venue for a show. This place was an absolute disgrace! If I could give it zero stars I was so I’m being extremely generous with one.
The person who served my table was slow, unresponsive, and gave inaccurate bills.During my last visit, I asked for a glass of pop three times before I got one. I also asked for a side of sauerkraut with a sausage and got fries instead. The server said they would follow up. After raising that issue with them three times they gave me a 1 ounce container of sauerkraut.I learned later that the restaurant doesnt serve sides of sauerkraut. That was perfectly reasonable, but I would have appreciated the chance to ask for another side (coleslaw) rather than get fries. When my table (four people) got our checks, they were inaccurate. The atmosphere is nice here, and the beer selection is very good, but my experience leads me to expect poor, slow service. If I go back, Ill sit at the bar.July 22, 2019 - I wrote the person who added the email address in the comment below a message. I never heard back from them. Lacking new input from this business, I stand by this review.
This was my first time here. We were really excited to see The Hodgetwins. Who, by the way, are phenomenal!!! The venue is a typical underground comedy club. They seem very organized and we had no trouble getting seated right away. The food and drinks were priced very reasonably of course with a two-drink minimum. However, the service wasnt quite the best. We may have had a new server but she didnt know what a martini was.I would highly recommend this venue and I will certainly be attending more shows.
Good comedians but employees didn’t want to work last night. No wait staff. No food service. We had to go find the bartender to get drinks. When asked if they had mixed drinks, the bartender said she could probably come up with something.
Solid shows, decent food and bar service. Very crowded seating. Small selection of beers on tap. I had a good time, but it felt very crowded.
This was a great venue for a comedy show. Is small and intimate but still had a decent amount of seating. The show was one of the best Ive seen in a really looking time.
The comedy acts and host was awesome. Id give 5 to him..but dont expect top notch service from the staff waiters/waitresses ..they tried but so many orders n drinks they were overwhelmed and kind short w pple. I had to go to the bar n order vs someone bringing my order. Also get there on time or u will have to eat your food in your lap(no tables). Maybe they should reposition seating so its more comfy vs cramming a bunch of pple in the room.
Place is normally probably perfectly sized for a comedy club. It was not sized right for an A.list comic. They should of sold less tickets...instead they packed us in like sardines (cant reserve a seat or even see a seat chart) where some people couldnt even see the comic. My table was very long and narrow with 12+ people on each side of it. Every table in the back half of the place was like this. Each chair at my table touched each other (hip to hip) and you could not stand up without asking the guy behind you to scoot in first. If a fire Marshall had come in there, my guess is the place would have been shut down for the night.Comic was awesome (Christopher Titus), wait staff was undermanned but admirably did their best with what they had, food and drink was good when we got it (more than an hr after we ordered it).I think for an up and coming comic this place would be fine. If you do go to a show with multiple times, go for the time with the most tickets available, and stay away from the sold out shows. If you do go to a show thats sold out, be waiting at the door before it opens for decent seats.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. This was the worst place I’ve been to for comedy. Unfortunately, we had to sit at the bar because there were no other seats available even though we paid to be there? The bartenders were extremely rude and were all arguing with each other because they couldn’t handle the rush. They were so loud I could barely hear the show. Someone asked them to keep it down and instead of being polite they snapped back at him. Not a professional establishment and not to mention their bar was barely stocked.
I love brownstone vibe and the venue setup for shows saw David Arnold and Tourne from Philli !
Great comedy and great crowd but the bartender was aggressively rude to every single person. I’ve NEVER experienced service like this anywhere, it was almost like those restaurants where the premise is for the server to be as rude as possible. I was actually nervous to order my drink because every single person before me was roasted in one way or another. Also there were only a few beers on tap and they didn’t even have rail vodka, the cheapest vodka available was Ketel One.
Food was amazing i had not had faith since it was an old looking place. But food didnt dissapoint. Those Brussel sprouts were amazing.
First time going to see live stand up. Awesome experience! Comedians were funny, staff were friendly and servers were quick. I didnt get food because of dinner plans after, but everything I saw passing by looked and smelled great.
Saw a comedy show here. Fun atmosphere and vibe, but extremely cramped seating. There has to be a better way to arrange the seating and tables so that you can actually move and not be all up on strangers. Good experience otherwise!
Went to see a show last night... got in line at 5:45. Seated by 6:10. Seating is super cramped. Our server brought us water and took our order pretty quickly but then he had to take everyone else’s order in our section before entering anything into the system. The menu online is different from the one posted outside and from the one you actually get at the show. Show started at 7, I think that’s about the time 3 of the 4 of us got our drinks (wine and beer only and our server said he didn’t think they had Chardonnay). Everyone in our section had to wait forever for drinks, some didn’t even get water. Shortly after that the same 3 of us got our food. All of our veggie burgers were cold, I didn’t eat mine. Had to ask multiple times for our 4th person’s beer. And then our last meal we were waiting on, a salad, came out close to 8pm. I think our server was trying his best, but yikes. The comedy was great, but I would not recommend going here to see a show.
Nice spot, shockingly large. It has many levels. We were at the top level for Profs and Pints. Love that they host this here. Food and service were great.
Great craft beer selection, held an awesome Goose Island Bourbon county release party.
Comic was great! Good service and very good beer.
Pleasantly surprised with this spot. Funny comedians....food not too bad, either.
Great venue and awesome food. You never be disappointed.
Cute venue. They have airplane mentality as they pack you in so tight you can barely breath. But the food is good, reasonably priced, and the drinks are strong. Titus was hilarious as usual as was his beautiful wife. The waiters were a little slow but again...your packed in like sardines.
Its a great atmosphere for a few good laughs. On Mondays theres an open mic for comics with a host that heckles its all great fun. Drinks are reasonably priced and if youre a new comic I encourage to come out and check out the scene!
My brother and our friends are from Orlando and went while we were in town . Had a really good time . Very friendly service and very funny acts.
Good place, got to enjoy a stand-up comedy show the night I stay at the hotel.
We had an overnight in DC. What a great night out we had. Food was good, drinks were better and the comics brought us to tears! It was a tight packed basement venue, but that added to the cozy experience.
It was very funny show. Its every Tuesday. I would recommend it to everyone. Its also very convenient since its right by the Dupont Circle metro station. Plus the have $2 beer specials. Lastly, the food is awesome.
Great service. Mia and Renee are on the ball. Food was delicious. The comedy show was hilarious.
If I could give this place a 0, I would. The hostess was rude, unprofessional, and mean! We couldnt get past the door without feeling like we were bothering her. I sincerely feel bad for the comedians, since we were unable to pay our respects.
Took my wife here on a great intimate date night and the comedian was so funny we couldnt even eat our food and the service were very nice!
Check them out for happy hour. These guys rock!
Wow. What happened? Ive gone here since the 90s when it was Brickskellar, with the legendary selection. Now we get a single 1-sided paper menu with 11 beers listed, and the first one I ordered was out so they offered no more than 10 beers. The servers clearly hate working there too, they avoid eye contact and huddle together.
This place was dope and if you want to see Comedy stop by Monday nights for a free comedy show. If youd like to be in it stop by around 5 by some thing from the bar and get a receipt. Then go to the comedy area and wait until everyone lines up by the receipt time signature and you should get a spot early on
Good food, strong drinks and wonderful comedy shows!
The drinks was reasonable, food was good. Atmosphere is exceptionally welcoming.
Excellent location and parking lot across the street. Good food and great atmosphere. The comedian are great and we will be returning.
Fantastic selection beer in cans and bottles. Decent selection on draft as well (overall thought thered be more variety in style / more local breweries). Food is pretty good too, and served quickly. Service was lacking as they seemed understaffed. They also dont write anything down when taking orders. A neat trick, until it leads to incorrectness.
Great dive for drinks and stand up.
Tons of fun! Take public transit if you can, as parking is minimal near the venue.
OMG super great. Great time and drink cost were great and not gouging expensive
Authentic place w relaxed crowd and crazy beerselection
Awesome and cozy beer bar with two floors. They use the top floor for comedy shows and other things. They have a gigantic beer list with plenty on tap, some really great bourbons and whiskies, and a great assortment of pub food thats not overly greasy. Sundays and Thursdays are $3.50 drafts. Overall a great place to meet with friends thats more quiet and laid back.
Be aware! I went there Saturday night and they double-charged my credit card, and included a different amount of tip in each charge! Disaster!
Needs to be renovated and the waiter forgot our order
Went for a comedy show. They had overbooked the show and there were not enough seats. So I missed the show and got a drink and sat in a different cavern room with my friend to chat. It was okay.
Street parking. Small bathroom. Older building. Two rows of tables and rest are just chairs. Two item minimum. Standard bar food for comedy places. Pretzel bites not too salty or greasy. French fries thin and little too greasy for me. Alcoholism drink watered down, just get soda. Server nice, patient, on time and attentive. Bar to sit at while waiting for acts. Stairs and not sure if elevator option. Room was too cold. Had fans and air conditioner on.
Everything about this comedy club is phenomenal, from the bartenders to the food to the actual comedy it was amazing
Would recommend against going for any famous or high profile comic. They put an announcement to not talk or heckle then let people talk, yell out, heckle, and interrupt the talent the entire time. Go to a venue where you can enjoy the talent.
The place seemed nice. Saw Majah Hype there. It was extremely crowded. The venue is small but even with the amount of people in there, didnt feel cramped. My only gripe was I didnt get my food. There was a small amount of waiters and waitresses. The venue was packed and everyone was ordering. I placed my order or thought I did but my waitress never came by to give me a heads up on how long it would be. I ended up leaving as soon as the show was done. I waited for around 30 min or so for my food during the show but didnt bother after it was over.
They lost my wifes credit card, and they offered no apologies.
The comedians were great but the service and seating was terrible. I could barely see the stage and after ordering a drink I finally got it two hours late after three reminders to the server who was barely around to begin. Then after being told not to worry about paying for it since I had waited two hours for my drink they still charged me looking at my bank statement. Recommend seeing a comedian somewhere else. This place is not worth it.
Cute place. They had no organization for the show that was going on. And their wheelchair accessibility was questionable. But great experience and good food nontheless.
The acts are great. Facility itself is small and packed quite tightly. Service was fast and prices were good. Worth the visit.
The space wasnt large enough to accommodate the number of people that were there. We were packed into our spaces.Tickets were over-sold. Patrons were standing in the walkway and in corners. Staff was clearly agitated throughout the night. I will not be returning to this establishment.
I came here to see Christopher Titus. He did a fantastic job but the location was awful. They crammed 300 people into a room that could barely fit maybe a hundred. They were all so understaffed. Food was underwhelming. Drink orders were wrong. Definitely wont be coming back here for any future shows.
Great intimate space for a comedy show.
Huge list of bottles and cans. Incredible service that is very knowledgeable
Great place 4 a good comedy show, drinks & food. Im vegan & they have a few options on the menu to eat, falafel wrap is AMAZE! All sorts of comedians come in to give you a good laugh. Faizon Love, Theo Von & Drew Lynch are a few names that have already been there. Check the website for upcoming weekly events!
It was hotter than a firecracker. No A/C at all. Just one small floor fan for entire room of a big audience.
Amazing show and great wait staff; venture is a bit cramped for my taste.
Horrible seats. Painful. Slow service. Had to wait until after the show to be able to close out. Do not recommend
Cool atmosphere. Good service. Great comedy. We will def be back.
The performer we saw was great! The chairs were very uncomfortable. It was very crowded for our show. There must be 200 seats with tables in 600 square feet. The server was okay, but due to the crowd it was slow. Overall food and drink was over priced as well. I dont think well return for another show.
Great bar downstairs and the comedy shows are hilarious.
Food wasnt that great. Vibe was chill. Comedian was good.
Excellent comedy. Good Moscow mule.
2nd show weve seen here and worth it. The acts are very funny. As far as food goes, typical good bar food that gets the job done. The beer selection is fantastic, completely different set of taps since we were in there last. Great description of what youre drinking. Will 100% go back
No AC during a heat wave, but the ambiance and comedian was top notch
Attentive service doing a good show. Dessert was awesome!
