Beautiful trails, moderate elevation gain. May not be great for summer hike as most places are open without any shade. It would perfect for winter hike.

Best off leash dog park in the East Bay. Located at the end of Casle Rock Road. Been working with my Search and Rescue K9s for 25 years and just a nice leisurely hike with some real grinders thrown in. Especially fun in the winter when the streams are running fairly strong and deep. My dogs love it.

Im on the Peregrine Protection Team in the Diablo Foothills and its like being a tiny person in a beautiful vast place where you feel connected to nature. Its great for hiking, not a lot of steep trails and its got streams to cross over, picnic areas, lawn and the views are spectacular! The Pine Canyon cliffs are closed to the public during Peregrine breeding season, Feb 1 - July 31 (tresspassers ARE fined, just be aware). The rest is open for your pleasure though.

Great place for spring flowers. It’s usually not fields of flowers but good one offs. Area popular with horse riders so trails have associated horse “deposits” and horse vs dog confrontations seem frequent.

Dont forget a big bottle of water in a camera to make sure you take your pictures and be sure to check the weather. I can get really hot and uncomfortable, but if you pick a cool day this is a really nice place to enjoy some Outdoor Adventure. Take a couple of friends and enjoy many different levels of activity and good conversation with people you care about.

The drive up to the summit is both beautiful and a reminder in safe driving. Many bikers were injured by unaware motorists so signs were installed extolling better awareness. Once at the summit the scenery is impressive. There are numerous trails but only a few are accessible from the summit so plan your hiking before you drive up. Trail maps are $6 and the bathrooms have a unique aroma . Lots of trails to hike and lots of cool history to learn about.

Its absolutely beautiful here! I hiked here during the end of August. It wasnt overly busy (during a weekday) but I did see quite a few other hikers and bikers. Theres so many different kinds of plants, and I even saw some lizards (and of course birds). The best time would probably be mid-September as the blackberry bushes should be fully ripe by then.

Phenomenal place to hike. Beautiful sights & animals from Turkey vultures to geckos. I would give it a 4 but I bumped it down to a 3 due to the fact that the Death Cap Mushroom (which has a 90% fatality rate) grows here. So hike at your own risk & with extreme caution. Stay away from any & all mushrooms you see here.

Great trails and an expansive park. Spent my first visit at the west end on routes leading to Castle Rock. Did not disappoint! The rock formations are amazing and the views beautiful along the way. It features diverse landscape scenes despite the dryer season (hay-like grass everywhere).Take a picture of the maps at the ranch entrances. This is a must! Google Maps doesnt offer much help for navigating within. The local maps are accurate and will keep you sane. This park is huge and has plenty to return to. Excited for the next route!

I entered the park from the Livorna Staging Area (which I had to myself!) January 30th, 2016. The trail starts off nice and flat alongside a gated neighborhood, then forks through a small boggy area. If you fork right you end up in the neighborhood on Serafix Rd. Its a short distance, so when you realize youre going the wrong way you can come right back to the trail and fork left to continue! Once I started uphill it became a little muddier with a small washout area down the center of the trail, but a good pair of hiking shoes aided in the climb.Unfortunately, I didnt realize how much of a challenge it would be to get back down the now steep, muddy hill. I made it up to the cattle gate, where the land seems to level off and dry out but could not find stable enough footing to open the gate and walk through.I absolutely want to come back here and finish the hike I barely started, but strongly advise waiting until the ground is more firm and less muddy.
