Played early on a chilly March 5th morning. Teed off at 7:30 and finished in 3.5 hours. Course is in good shape considering its winter and wet. Greens had been aerated on Sunday but they rolled fine today and greens were actually quite quick. Fairways and tees are dormant but still playable. Traps in good shape also. Paid $41 and that was a very good price in my opinion. Nice layout and extremely fair. Would definitely play if in the area again.
Consistently in very good shape. Greens have been under pressure with ball marks this year, but that’s forgivable given how much play they are getting. The rest of the course is in excellent shape. The divots from prior day (busy Labor Day) tee box had been filled with green sand and we were the 7am tee time the next day. That gives you a sense of how these guys care.
Simply put, an outstanding golf course. Challenging hard to read multi sloping greens, overall it is a fair layout and a good test for mid to low handicappers from the blue or black tees. Bring extra balls to feed the scenic lakes, if youre a high handicapper. Check out some recent pictures I took at sunrise. I will be adding more pictures in the coming days.
This is a beautiful course with a nice and challenging lay out. I definitely recommend this course specially on a nice dry day.
Awesome experience. Nice course. Friendly people. Course was very wet and greens were hard. Just had to adjust. Recommend it to all outsiders.
Fantastic course! Well maintained and was playable the early morning after heavy rainstorms in the area. Has a nice mix of open fairways, tightly treelined fairways, water and bunker holes. I look forward to playing it again in the future.
We had both, our wedding and reception at the golf course and I would recommend this to anyone looking for not only the perfect wedding venue but any event! Mike and his team made all of my wedding dreams come true! They went above and beyond to make sure our special day was unforgettable! Everything was handled professionally and very well organized from the initial consultation all the way until the end. Any worries I ever had throughout the process of planning a wedding, Mike and his crew were always one step ahead. The golf course provided a beautiful space for an outside ceremony, followed by cocktail hour on the spacious patio with a perfect charm and most importantly, a large area that accommodated ALL of my guest comfortably at the reception. Thank you Virginia Beach National Golf Club for making my special day PERFECT!!!
Nice venue - buffet was excellent and the staff was on point - thank you
Great practice facilities and lots of players taking rounds.
Very stiff staff. Was not helpful when online tee times were in error. Many other courses in the area worth the spend for a round of golf in 4 hours (not 4:45hrs at VB National). #overrated
Excellent golf course. Fairways greens were all in fantastic shape. The front plays open, and the beginning of the back is tight. Played in 4.5 hours was quite busy it was a Saturday. The attendants in the pro shop, grill, and and marshall were all welcoming and nice. Greens were faster, and even faster once they dried out from the morning dew. I will definitley be returning. Wish the white tees for the par 3s were longer than just a gap or sand wedge, mix it up and play blue tees for a longer par 3 experience.
The amenities are great and the greens were smooth
Played here Thursday 7/25/2019. Course was in great shape. Beautiful layout. Excellent conditions. Friendly staff. Only problem was both electric carts in our foursome conked out. Called club the next day and spoke with Glen Pierce. Explained the situation and he said the next round was on him. We played again today (7/31/2019) and had a great time with no issues. John checked us in and couldnt have been nicer. The cart attendants were super nice too. We plan to play this course many times in the future. Thanks again to Glen and his staff for treating us with the utmost respect and kindness.
The course was in the best shape Ive seen it in the Years
The golf course was in great shape with fast greens. The pace of play was good, for a Thursday round. I traveled from Texas for vacation and decided to play the course. I wasnt disappointed. After the round, I had a very good lunch in the club house and the service was great. I will certainly return to the course if I return to Virginia Beach.
Super busy. Get tee times elsewhere.
Best course in Va Beach. One of the only courses in the city that have elevation changes. The course is kept up fairly well. The is great.
Breakfast that we had and service by our server, Malia was excellent.
The course is in great shape. The greens are fast. The pace of play was very slow due to one foursome. It would be nice if a marshall had been on the course to speed that group up. There was 3 holes between them and the foursome in front of them. Other than that it was a great day out there
Beautiful golf course and challenging. The greens were really fast. Had a really great time playing this course!
Played here 7-8-18. Havent been here in years. I was excited to go back. The course in ok shape. Greens putt ok but there is obviously some people that just wont take care of the course by filling divots with the provided sand mix on the carts and also do not fix ball marks on the greens. This is no fault of course management. This is totally the fault of the players they attract. Quite a bit of ground under repair. However, there are parts of this course that shine like diamond. I can see where the grounds crew is trying but its an uphill battle dealing with uncaring players. Attentive staff.
I always enjoy this course. A nice layout that is very challenging. Will be back again for sure.
Great day of golf. Nice driving range, chipping green with separate putting green. Staff was nice and knowledgeable. Refreshment cart seemed to be right on time with our round and the cart attendant was friendly and kind. Course was in good condition with very few fairway areas missing grass. First cut was well kept and even the rough was in good shape. Some of the bunkers were full of water, but we had a good amount of rain in recent days. Tee boxes were well marked and in really good condition. I could tell that they move the tees regularly as they werent heavily worn. All in all, my first experience at this course was above par... just like my score.
Volunteered for a fund raiser at the Golf Club. Course was really great; people were friendly and accommodating too. Looking forward to going back to play a round.
Course is in great shape
Still in pretty good shape even though city took it over. I wish they hadnt let the waste bunkers grow in though. If you hit it in there before you just punched it out of sand. Now its like hitting out of a farm field good luck on the lie. Super layout. Giant greens still fast and decent.
I just want to give some praise to one of the servers last night. I was there for a wedding, and Ms. Betty was phenomenal! She is the sweetest lady, and she worked very hard. Thank you Betty, you truly made an impact on me.Cathie
Beautiful layout, course in really good shape except for the greens.
Great course. We played the Seniors tees and it was a real pleasure, not over challenging but fun.
They split hosting our work golf league. Always friendly & helpful staff. Enjoyable course that offers challenges to both low & high handicaps.
Very nice place oh, well kept up, the staff was enjoyable to be around I was able to caddy for my grandson there
Greens rolled nicely. Course overall in good shape besides the new bunkers under construction. New sand in completed bunkers is top notch!
Great course. Nice fairways and soft greens.
Had a birthday party there and everything was AWESOME! The food was fantastic we had brisket, baked chicken mashed potatoes and green beans and ham fresh rolls. A cheese platter, a fresh fruit platter and a vegetable tray with dip. The staff were on point with everything. It was a wonderful experience for everyone.
Great place to play. It’s a challenge from the tips.
Really good old TPC golf course. The grill has changed hands a couple times but the food is good.
I have attended events at Virginia Beach National Golf Club over the years, but never played the course. I have also eaten at their restaurant the Signature Grille and can weigh in.The public course is a premier Pete Dye design w/ assistance from Tour Pro Curtis Strange. Opened in 1999 it has hosted a PGA Nationwide VB Open. Its a challenging par 72 w/ over 7200 yards from the championship markers w/ tour quality greens. The exterior of the main building is looking aged and I have seen some areas that are in need of power wash, paint and even wood replacement. The Signature Grille has been just ok on my few breakfast visits. Service a bit above average, food average. It typically is dead in the dining room. The business they receive in the morning is from gofers grab and go window. I personally would not go out of my way for a breakfast visit alone. They also offer dinner specials which I would like to give a try.The club house and adjoining outside patio tent can be used for special events such as birthdays, anniversaries and weddings, receptions. Although I cannot weigh in on the course itself I can attest to the upkeep of the grounds which seems very good.Give them a try for a round of golf, special event, or grabbing a bite to eat. Its a beautiful area.
Fairways are in great shape, greens are like glass right now
My favorite course in VB. Very well maintained course. The greens are challenging but fun. The fairways are always we groomed. The rough is also cut so its fun but not impossible. The staff has always been amazing. Theclubhouse is inviting, clean and relaxing. I highly recomend VB National.
Great course. Maybe the best public course in VA Beach. This course in its day was a TPC course Tournament Players Course. The city of VB took it over and does a fine job. The course is well managed and always in good shape. The practice facility is top notch. The course is challenging but open. It doesnt have a public course feel. Finish your round at the grill for a craft beer, wings or bbq. But the menu is as big as the course. Friendly staff.
The golf course was in great shape with fast greens
The course is in great shape. The greens are fast.
First tee is a great program
Awesome club for kids. The instructors have lots of patience with little ones.
Great Bar-B-Q
Unfortunately modifying review. Paid and got cart about right around but before my tee time (heaven forbid) and staff were jerks about it. Still like the course and layout
Amazing rate for visitors. Course was beautiful and well maintained. Pro shop was nice and food was quick, good priced, and delicious.
The guys at the golf desk on Sunday morning around 11, was very nice and funny. Great course and friendly young workers.
Russ and the guys in the pro shop are always awesome. the course is in fantastic condition. Greens are FAST
Huge course, pretty scenic, lots of hills! Nice staff.
Thanksgiving dinner was delicious!
Attended a dinner party there good location, served the purpose. The bar was stocked.
Awesome course. Great staff.
Played in a tournament there....very well-kept course. Enjoyed it!
Attended an event. Room was nice, buffet was subpar food was overcooked and dry. Not worth the price of the ticket.
Always enjoy playing at VB Nat.
Great course. Excellent staff. Beer cart on course at all time. Greens in good condition.
Course was saturated some areas was muddy
Nice layout but the course was in rough shape, particularly the tee boxes and green fringes.
Course is in great shape. Always liked VBN. Interesting holes and greens that break, but dont punish you.
Course Was In Great Shape!
Little wet this week but love this cours
Great golf course. Well maintained. Nice looking course. Best public course in Hampton Roads.
Great place for graduation parties or just a simple round of golf.
I love the course layout, and the prices are very reasonable. It tends to be in good shape. Prices in the Black Angus (separately run) are a bit high for a 19th hole.
Friendly staff, better-than-average course conditions.
Challenging layout and friendly staff.
Course is very dry, lots of dead grass. Condition not close to my expectations. Also, could use some signs pointing you to the pro shop to check in, and some signs at some holes where its not clear where the next hole is.
The course is in great shape except for some bunkers. They have great practice areas and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
I used Golf Now and it was quick to check in. The fairways & greens were very nice. Front 9 is a warm up for the back 9. If you are playing the white tees dont change in the back.Friendly Staff.
We had a free round of golf at First Tee as a promotion from the YMCA. My 7 and 4 year olds had a great time. The staff were friendly and the grounds were well maintained.
2nd best public course behind Heron Ridge.
Learn how to play golf.
Great event venue. Wonderful staff. Could use more of a liquor selection.
Excellent course, friendly staff! Makes you feel welcome
Course is in great shape, greens are quick, only negative is the bunkers were full of water.
Awesome course.
Course in great shape except for the traps.
Good, challenging golf course but I wish the greens were slower, I played there for the governors cup
Crazy fast greens beautiful golf cource. Can be very slow 5hr+ rounds.
My place love it
Awesome!!! Course rocks like no other and staff is very friendly and not uppetty at all
Went for a reception at tge Black Angus. Food was great and customer service was very nice.
Great place where my old friends hang out!
Great golf course, great employees and great restaurant!
Has been in great shape for the last few years.
Well maintained.
The ppl here are so down to earth
Very nice course layout.
Great golf facility, great conditions, great layout, decent prices
The course is in good shape.
I played October 17th, 2016. I strictly use GolfNow since it is significantly cheaper than standard rates so I was blind to the fact that it was cart path only and holes 12 and 13 were closed due to Hurricane Matthews destruction. As for the rest of the course, it was in great condition considering the hurricane was just a week past. The fairways were lush, the rough was thick and challenging and the greens were true and fast. The bunkers looked okay but that is typical after excessive rain. Ive played this course 3 or 4 times now and definitely consider it a top 5 course in the Hampton Roads region. Although today I dealt with terrible slow play. My tee time was at 12 noon and noticed when I showed up an hour early that a group of 16 was just teeing off. When 12 rolled around, I noticed there was no starter and by hole 3, I had to wait considerably for each shot until I was on the green. This was the case for every hole from there on out. Along with no starter, there was no marshall to push some of the people in front of us along. As a 5 handicap, I could play 18 holes in 2.5 hours. It took me almost 3 hours to play the front 9! Then at the turn, I waited 20 minutes to tee off at 10 and another 15 to hit my first shot at 11. Since holes 12 and 13 were closed, I was able to shave at least 45+ minutes off my back nine allowing me to complete my round in 4 hours and 45 minutes. Yes, its typical to play a round of golf in 4 hours and 15 minutes, but that is with a foursome and I played the back 9 by myself. Also, granted it was a Monday, limited staff was probably the case for not having a starter or marshall but considering the shape of the course, slow play is the only thing the staff needed to attend to. Even the two guys I paired up with on hole 4 quit after the 7th because of slow play. Overall, VB National is a wonderful course, challenging for all players of experience with 5 different tee selections and I highly recommend it. I didnt write this post to knock on VB National but more so to bring it to their attention as I did not when I was there. I will definitely be back in the near future but if slow play persists, I may have to look elsewhere.
Great course that is almost always in great shape.
Great challenging golf course.
Once clearly a must visit golf menu, now several courses outdo this club hands down on all fronts.
