Yall they have an amazing huge complete and exact t replica of the Battle of Vicksburg. They lady working there was very friendly and informative about everything in the museum. Its really just amazing how detailed it is.
Very friendly staff! Knowledgeable as well!! Theyve got some cool little set ups to check out. Its about five bucks to see the museum. Free for military. The gift shop has some great gifts that are way cheaper than some of the same gifts at the national park. So if youre going to do some gift shopping, this is a good place to get some cool stuff.
This place is a GEM. The two lady docents that work there are knowledgeable and friendly. You can’t go wrong by coming here. You’ll get a real insight into life in Vicksburg before, during and after the Civil War. Model trains, paddle boats, blockade runners and a movie that will give you insight into the civilian experience in the Civil War in Vicksburg. Great gift shop too
Inexpensive entry fee, friendly, knowledgable staff. Has a large diorama depicting the main Union assault on Vicksburg during the Civil War. Also, a very large collection of scale model Civil War ironclads of both the Union and Confederate Navies - most to a common scale to make size comparisons easy. There are other scale models of warships named for the state of Mississippi, cities, etc. Scale railroad layouts: N, HO, O scale (it is an actual former railroad depot built in 1906) are on display and operated per visitor request. A small museum with some very interesting displays.
The kids loved the Old Depot Museum. The displays of model trains and detailed models of ships, buildings, and battlefields were amazing. Definitely put this museum on your family To Visit list if youre in the Vicksburg area!
Awesome museum. Friendly amd knowledgeable staff. This is a train and civil war museum and has lots of great hidden facts about history. The owner has done a wonderful job in creating models of ships, trains, and the civil war battlefield. The gift shop is a nice size and has lots of cool trinkets for sale. The upstairs is blocked off probably for rennovations. There are also a few antique train cars behind the building across from the Mississippi river which makes for a great photo opp. If you are traveling through Mississippi I wpuld highly recommend stopping at Vicksburg as there are hundreds of historical sites.
The civil war display was pretty neat to see along with the remnants found that were on display. This place was more focused on model trains than we thought from the description. Amazing building its housed in, that might have been most interesting for me.
Very interesting place, tons of model trains and ships. Very helpful staff. It was well lit and clean. The model set of the battle for vicksburg really helps understand and comprehend what you see at the vicksburg military park.
Very very interesting. Knowledgeable folk able to explain what you are seeing.
The excellent diorama of the Battle for Vicksburg with a good civil war history documentary gives you a real sense of the military situation and the scope of the fight. It may help if you come here to get a sense of the battleground before you go on the Vicksburg Battleground National Park Tour. This is a great model-filled museum, mostly with ships models and model trains. It brought back memories of the hours spent building these replicas. There is a detailed study of the ironclads -- have not found these anywhere else. All this in a beautiful restored train station right on the Mississippi River levee. Support these volunteers who have done this all on their own! What a great effort!
Visited at the time of Independence Day fireworks . Nice to see nonstop fireworks for 30 mins
I truly enjoyed my time here. For such a small museum I thought it was very interesting and well worth my time to visit. I didnt care for some of the comments given by the older lady who works there, but it really is a neat and interesting place to visit.
Fantastic spot. The models are spectacular. There is a lot of history represented here. If you have time to spend its worth the stop
Bring out the kid on you. Cool trains and diarama. Learned about Old Douglas. Never heard about him before
This is a very cool place. The scale models inside are amazing and there is a scale model of the battle for Vicksburg that was so helpful in understanding the battle placements. Curators are really nice.
Absolutely loved this museum. Unbelievable diorama of the Siege of Vicksburg. There is a world-class collection of river boats of every kind imaginable. The artist/model maker was there when we visited and was amazing to talk to.Trains of all scales are in one area of the museum. Children of all ages are mesmerized just taking it all in. Great job!!Finally, enough cannot be said about the docents and knowledgeable staff. Dont miss the one-of-a-kind museum.
In process of remodeling, nice layout of the national battlefield
Fun museum with many nautical modelsNumerous operating train layouts of various scales were fun to watch.
Walked around the area checking out the items from Mississippis history
Great presentation, great staff!!
I Love going to this Museum and looking at the new items they get in. The people working there are very Friendly.
If you love model trains and old car models, you will love this museum
Fascinating place want to go back again.
Fun place to visit and learn about the Civil War and the history of transportation. Not a large museum, so can be experienced in an hour or less if youre pressed for time. We saw many children enjoying the model trains with their parents.
Interesting information, and cool model trains and ships and other stuff.
Its nothing too special. Granted the figuring models are really neat, but they are just thrown around in no particular order. Its crowded as well.
Great place to visit.
Good place to check out when you have a lot of time. There is a lot to see.
Huge diorama, its great!
We went there for the Vicksburg diorama advertised. Mostly train and boat models. I was disappointed. We then went to National Park. Theirmovie was top notch. Helped us understand the fight.
Love our visit! The ladies working there were very knowledgeable and friendly. Well worth the cost!
Enjoyed the experience!
Excellent. The people were very friendly and helpful
Tons of miniatures (trains, boats, civil war diaramas). Very quaint spot. Admission was $5 for adults.
Wonderful hand made models of Ships. Lots of trains and a great diarama of the battle. A really local feel.
Really some interesting items to look at. In the 3 dimensional battlefield display it would help if they included the stop numbers that the drive through uses but still an amazing piece of work. The ships and models seem to be all over the place. Most are Civil War items but then you get to second world war aircraft and ships that are just randomly thrown in. Kind of confusing. The upstairs seem to not be finished and has a lot of empty space. There is a room with ship models in it that they refer you yo but then that door is locked and you cant even read the signs on a lot of the ships from the one viewpoint you can look through from the glass door. There is also a window in the main room looking in on these ships but I was not able to read the info on these signs from there either ad there is shelves of merchandise blocking a lot of that place. It is worth it to look them over but dont expect a clear picture of the history they have these items there to show.
Very friendly staff and educational.
Lots of models and dioramas of the Civil War. The kids loved the model trains. Staff was very friendly. The gift shop is fairly priced, I would actually say maybe priced too low.
Excellent model of Vicksburg battlefield
Uniquely interesting. Historic value is wonderful
Exceeded my expectations. This place had the most amazing collection of ship models Ive ever seen.
Very unique..,must see if you come to Vicksburg!
David Benway is the best. Very knowledgable and sociable.
