You can go back in history at this museum and learn so many things. It’s amazing the knowledge you can acquire in a short time at this museum. The tour of the boat takes it to another level. Don’t miss out on a opportunity of a lifetime. Don’t go after 3:00pm. It shuts down around this time regardless of the time you’ll read on the website. Be there early or you’ll miss so much.
Friendly staff, informative exhibits and massive boat included to walk through!
Great museum. Check it out!
It was very informative. I learned a lot.
Great experience learned alot ! Cool place to take the family
This place was fantastic. The staff was very helpful. It was pouring rain when we came in and they offered us paper towels to dry off with and gave us directions to start the tour. Lots of interactive items in the building .learned alot but the real fun was going on to the ship it was self guided and was incredible to see from the pilot house all the way down to the engine room with tons of facts along the way!
I think this Museum is supposed to be geared towards kids, but as an engineer I loved it! I spent a lot of time here with family looking at the power of water and everything the corps of engineers has done to engineer the power of the river. A really fun place to stop by if you are visiting Vicksburg.
A great way to get a glimpse of the Corps of Engineers mission on the Mississippi River and tour a large Corps vessel from pilot house to engine room.
We have visited this museum EVERY year for the last five years. It is full of history, and even with a four year old, the tour is very manageable on your own without a guided tour. Great place to visit.
The people there were so helpful with helping us find our way around the museum! They even helped us find local restaurants that we may enjoy!
To start its free admission so that made my day. The informative and for the price you cant beat it.
Perfect for knowing what to see, the man at the entrance definitively made a good job explain us and gives labeled plans.
The guides where very knowledgeable about the history of the Mississippi river, and the best places to eat, locally. I really enjoyed this visit. The Mississippi IV was especially impressive, to me. With free admission, and an awesome tour to take, you shouldnt miss this if you are in Vicksburg .
Enjoyable little museum! Its fun to see and walkthrough a real riverboat.
We loved it! Great for the kiddos and interactive. Best of all it is free!
Didnt walk around, ibworked on it while they was closed but it looked nice and its free
Really loved this place... Another delightfully unexpected surprise... Great use of our tax money to see how the Mississippi is navigated and managed... Field in a lot of blanks in my knowledge was extraordinary helpful
Free to get in! The staff are super nice. The river boat is the star attraction. And wow what a experience. Did i mention its free!
Loved it! Right in the heart of VicksburgLots of hands on stuff, and well thought out displays. Great for history buffs too!
Excellent museum. Free admission. Pkenty of parking. Very interactive for both adults and children. A very pleasant environment. Great historical experience. The view of the Mississippi River is awesome. Highly suggest for adults, kids and entire families. Plenty of areas to sit down for folks who need it. The steps in the ship are a little tricky because they are very steep. Still an enjoyable experience.
Free admission. Plan on 2 hours. Free self-guided boat tour - all 5 levels! Displays inside the building are impressive, too. Introductory film at entrance.
I loved this museum. First of all, its completely free! I went with my kids ages 2, 4, and 6 and we all enjoyed it. The people at the information desk were SO nice and answered all of our questions. They have an entire boat next to the museum that you can explore. There are 4 levels and it was a lot of fun to see a piece of the Mississippi River history. There are activities in every level of the boat. The main deck is also air conditioned. The other exhibits were also fun. They had a fresh aquarium with catfish and bass. There were displays about the history and development of Vicksburg and the importance of water travel ways.Outside they had a water and sand table and a model of the Mississippi River for the kids to splash in.When we left they gave the kids water safety bags. I also left my phone there on accident and the folks there helped me relocate it.
Beautiful and big very new place and the boat was fun to look inside too. Highly recommend this place.
Lovely museum with free entry and well worth an hour of your time.
Check out this cool museum for free. Good family experience and does not take long to see everything. Nice addition to a day of walking around Vburg.
I never knew tug boat crews had it so good. In my next life Im coming back as a tug boat captain. Awesome place for kids!!
Great visit. Take your time. Very impressed by the Armys Corp of Engineers.... What they have accomplished. Dont miss seeing the boat, check out the engine room
Great piece of river history. Self guided tour of a river boat.
My boys (2 and 7) loved the ship and the museum.
Jim Sherman met me at the door at introduced me to the museum. He made such an impression that I still remember his name, and that never happens. I love museums and honestly this type is not my thing but I loved it and definitely learned something. Very professionally done.
This was a particularly enjoyable experience. A wonderful application of tax payer money.
Loved it! Very informational with lots to see & do. The Corp was a very instrumental part of our countrys growth & development and this is a good representation.
Very modern, well designed museum dedicated to the two centuries the US has spent trying to coexist with the Mississippi. In addition to the museum exhibits, there is an outdoor map of the Mississippi a block long, and an entire US Army Corps of Engineers river boat you can wander around and explore. All free.
Good place
Everything youd want to know about the river!
Great place to visit. It was free and very interesting.
You can learn a lot about the river in a few minutes.
I used to work on the Mississippi river so this museum really brought back some great memories. You can take your time to look how life on the river was all those years ago. It took about an hour for us to go all through the exhibit, well worth it. Full of history.
Cool place for a quick visit. Nice displays and history of the area.
Very interesting and educational.
This is a great place to take your kids for an outing its so educational and fun for them
Very nicely appointed, and maintained. Informative!
Great place for history, education, and understanding of the MS River life, commerce, and history. A great team built this museum for all to enjoy :)
We enjoyed seeing and hearing about how the engineers are keeping river safe and liked learning about Big Shaky.
Great place to learn about the Mississippi River from first settlements to wildlife to the Mississippi River and Tributaries Project the United States Army Corps of Engineers has really done alot of great work to keep the river in plac. Be sure to watch the excellent educational video when you first stop into the museum. When you go into the boat just leave the stroller behind. The narrow halls and stairs make it difficult to manuever a stroller.
Well done and informative. Great staff!
Informative. With all the flooding this year, it puts things in perspective. Free. Do not leave Vicksburg without visiting. 1st class.
A great place for families to visit.
Beautiful Museum... very kind people at the door. Free. Self-guided. A couple activities for kids. Lots to learn.
Not a very large museum, but packed with interesting facts about the Mississippi river. The 7 minute movie at the start is great, and the self- guided tour of the boat is cool. Kids are going to love the boat, but be careful. The stairs are typical for a boat, steep and narrow. And all of this is Free!
Great museum with an actual boat you can tour. The museum has diaramas of Vicksburg throughout history and interactive exhibits for kids (and curious adults). Free of charge!
Very interesting. Great to know how important the Mississippi River is to our great nation!
My family and I really enjoyed our time here. There is plenty of interactive things for children and adults to enjoy!
Staff was great and let us in at 3:45 even though they close at 4. The guy at the front desk told us to take our time and make sure we see everything. The exhibits were great and everything was well organized and functional.
Everyone was so nice and very interesting.
We love boats and history. This met both interests.
My fiance once lived on this vessel
Lower Mississippi River museum in Minneapolis st Paul
It is a nice museum. Its biggest draw is the retired CoE boat. There is no reason they cant have ALL of it open for the visitors. The actual museum is pretty empty and just touches the tip of the iceberg so to speak, on the history of the river and the job of the USACoE on the river. There is SO MUCH more they could add to this museum.
One of the top things we did while we were in town.
This is a very small museum, but it is free! For its small size, it has quite a lot of interaction exhibits to help students and visitors learn about the history of the Mississippi River. I thought I was taught a lot back in elementary school about this river, but turns out there is a lot more I didnt know. The museum had multiple interesting facts to offer about the history of the river and the city of Vicksburg. It was a pleasant place to visit. The even have a decommissioned steam ship here which is enormous. The staff were all terribly kind and welcoming. If you have free time in Vicksburg, I recommend coming here to learn a few new things.
A life-changing experience that starts with the beginning of slavery in the 1600s and continues through the Civil Rights era. Very well done
We enjoyed our visit arrived at 4pm in the afternoon we enjoyed our visit arrive before their afternoon, closes at 5pm but no feeling of being pushed or pressured to leave.
Very nice place to learn about Mississippi River.
So pretty and its free
There is a lot to see. The entry fee is minimal. I enjoyed the entire museum and I think it is worth the time to see it.
Great place 4 your family.
Very interesting and interactive, great to see what life was like on a boat.
Ad for army Corp of engineers...but free and a nice stop.
Very interesting! Learn so much about the flood kn Vicksburg!
Great place to bring family to learn about the mighty Mississippi and the Army Corps of Engineers who care for it. And its all free
Donations requested, but no tickets required. Interesting info and exhibits. Not a ton to see - a couple hours to look around most of it.
Great display for all ages. The tugboat is awesome.
Been there and its a wonderful place to visit and to learn about the Mississippi River and the history of the 1927 flood and etc.
Nice place Forno history about engineers in the work in the Mississippi River. The last corp boat in the river its in this Museum there you can see it mostly all in the 5 floor they have
Very enjoyable and learned a lot. The staff were very pleasant.
Neat addition to downtown Vburg. Wish they would get the river model water pump turned on or working so ppl can enjoy that part of the museum as well :/
Great for education with school age kids. Friendly staff. A large amount of hands on and interactive.
Quiet and fun to explore. Definitely recommend it to AmeriCorps members staying at the Southern Campus.
We had a great time walking all over the ship and the interactive displays were very informative. We certainly learned a lot about the river and the Corps work.
If you take your time you can learn a lot and be part of history as the same time as learning about history come down and enjoy in Vicksburg
Very Fun and Interesting. Theres a real decommissioned ship there.
Wonderful place to take the kids
Its Free!! Kids get a packet on safety . Its just really cool..
Not many shops, most are closed. No many activities. Good place for branded garments
The staff was friendly, the exhibits interesting, and I found the facilities clean and well-designed.
Well organized. The staff was helpful and kind.
A museum with a boat to visit. Its free and will take you about half an hour to visit.
