Visited here because we wanted to find a beach where we could socially distance, and generally, I think it works for that.Be expected to find a lot of people here. We arrived before 11:30am, and there was already quite a line to get in. When we left around 2pm, it was almost a quarter mile down the road. It moves pretty fast, however. Its only $3 to get in, and they take cards, so no need to worry about cash. The beach isnt the cleanest, but its mostly OK, and the good part is, there is a large, shallow wading area. If you dont want to be surrounded by a bunch of people, expect to hike down the beach a ways, and bring some closed-toed shoes, as the sand gets pretty hot. Also, we saw plenty of people with personal watercraft, even though the parks website says its prohibited, and we saw a few (but not a ton) of people drinking. If youre looking for a safe place for yourself and/or family to enjoy the sun, but you dont want to drive an hour to find a secluded spot, Frenchmans Bar is a good bet as long as you take some precautions: first, prepare to walk 15 minutes or so to get away from the crowd. Second, bring some shade: there are trees, but people tend to crowd under them. Third, come in your swim gear and use the bathroom before you go down to the beach--these arent really placed conveniently and there is often a line. Finally, if you can, get their early before 10am) so you can grab a parking spot in the first lot on the right as you enter--this gets you a little closer to the more secluded parts of the beach, and there is a bathroom there that isnt crowded.
This place is definitely my new go to swim spot with the fam. Even tho it was fairly busy on a 82° day, there was still enough room for social distancing not too crowded. They also have a play ground for the kids and i believe i seen a couple volleyball nets up. Will be going back soon!
Nice beach, very clean. Would have had a better time if the wind wasnt blowing, but good over all.
This park is on the Columbia River and is a great one. There are bathroom facilities with outdoor showers and a playground for kids. There is also a running trail that is paved and beach on the Columbia. There are also over six sand volleyball courts. If you have a family with younger children it’s best to come in the earlier hours of the day because in the afternoon the teenagers and older crowd start showing up and don’t use the best of language. Also if you’re coming out here to enjoy the sunshine and warmer water it’s best if you come mid June to first of September. For the most part it is pretty clean and the current isn’t too strong. Please note that about 12 feet from the shore there is a nice drop where the water gets deeper.
Just a nice friendly beach to which you can enjoy yourself a beer quietly, if you so want
I was in the water minding my business with my brother then I stepped on a nail Nd it went in my foot really deep thanks guys :)
This is a great summertime location with a long sandy shoreline (sand bar), clean facilities, turf and plenty of picnic spaces. A bike trail connects to other local parks and there is enough room for swimmers and fishermen and the occasional mermaids that frequent the area.Parking is only three dollars, but there is no water access for motorized watercraft, they are restricted. The negatives for this park is that it sometimes gets filled to capacity and you have to wait to get in. non payng vehicles were being cited or towed last year so thatll, hopefully, get better.
Huge park with lots of space, we were mostly swimming in the river, but i liked it! Clean swimming area.
Came here on a nice day to explore. Trails arent very long but there is a nice beach. Also a playground if youve got little kids. You can bike on these paths which are mostly paved. You do have to pay to park here I think it was around $3. But there is a nice parking lot and also restrooms. And a drinking fountain. The park was clean. Dont mind paying when they maintain the park.
The place is worth the drive. Nice long Beach makes spacing out easy. There was a substantial amount of broken glass in the water, water shoes suggested.
I love to come here all year. The summer months can get pretty busy but all other months are very quiet. Great place to walk along the river or to bring the kids to play. I have seen a lot of bald eagles along the river here and it is fun to watch the big ships coming and going as well. Great place to picnic or just be quiet for a while.
This park has nice features. I just wish people would pick up their trash.
Large open space on Washington side of Columbia River. Great place for bank fishing, picnicking, hiking or just hanging out and being lazy
My family and I come here every summer on the weekends.. We float, swim, and tan.. We love it here..
Clean and easy to access with TP in the bathrooms, Thank you!
Pretty chill except all the water traffic, slightly sexluded. Some people seemed to be bypassing the daily fee with no discretion or enforcement.
Quiet and serene park along the columbia river. And a good spot to watch ocean vessels coming to dock in Portland
Good place for a bike ride and the take the kids down to take a dip in the river. There are playgrounds bike trails walking trails and plenty of places to have a picnic. The cons are if you take a dog prepare to have them on the leash. Its a river so the water is thick clay and mud. On an average day theres a $3 entry fee.
We LVE it there its so relaxing the view is so bright and amazing so surreal, its like another world
This is a wonderful year round park. The views of the Columbia River and mountains can be stunning. There is a paved trail just outside the park that is a popular walking path to and from Frenchmen’s Bar. Though the river may appear tranquil, it is still a shipping lane. Lots of activities are scheduled here, especially during the summer: beach volley ball, BBQ s and covered picnic areas, etc.
Fun place to go with your friends or family
Weekdays are normal. Weekends Id pass.
Great place to cycle. Lots of improved trails and plenty of dirt too.
Love to watch the boats and barges going up and down the river, pleasant trail.
Great, quiet this time of year, nice to get your exercise in, saw a huge flick of snow geese
Really good spot to walk.
Great area to take the family! Parking is reasonable and the restrooms are close by. Just a short walk from the river and playgrounds, and I believe BBQ pits, but not positive.
Fun spot to bring your friends and enjoy some time by the Columbia River. You can walk on trails, play volleyball, BBQ, picnic benches and tons of area to lay out and enjoy the sun. Go kayaking or swimming. Great place for family fun.
Great family place to visit. Beautiful, easy to find, park like setting, beach. No swimming atm due to algae.
Great Park to cisit
BBQ pits play ground clean bathrooms grassy area lots of sand trails. Fun for every age. No boat ramp but theres one right down the road.
I love coming to this place for fun and relaxation.
Great spot for volleyball
Great park!! The Park Hosts keep the place clean and are very helpful!! Great hosts!!!
Very nice. I have been here many times during every season. I dont swim here but it is beautiful to get some sun or do photoshoots. They have a volleyball area, park with swings and covered areas for bbq or get togethers. Its a great place to watch the sunset or ships passing through on yhe Columbia river.
This place is very pretty. It is actually a heron refuge, so spring time you will find flocks of them there very neat to see. My issue us when there us no envelopes to pay your 5 dollars to get in. Do I leave? Do I stay?
Great park to spend a weekend afternoon at. Beautiful scenery on a sunny day and a good beach.
Pleasant and peaceful during good weather days in Fall, Winter, Spring. Can get crowded during the summer and some holidays. You do have to pay to park, but you wont have to if youve already purchased a Regional Parks parking permit that lasts the calendar year. Place is often mostly clean thanks to fellow volunteers that show up every now and then to clean up garbage that people carelessly leave behind.
Absolutely beautiful park. Nice walking trails and lovely beach and picnic area. The camp host was very nice and very helpful. I will definitely be going back!
Clean, quiet and peaceful this early morning!
This is a wonderful year round park. The views of the Columbia River and mountains can be stunning. There is a paved trail just outside the park that is a popular walking path to and from Frenchmen’s Bar. Though the river may appear tranquil, it is still a shipping lane.
Good, quiet park on the Columbia. Busy on warm weekends
Great park for a group event. A bit crowded on the weekend.
Sand and lots of shallow water. The sun was out, it was a perfect day.
Nice park with beach
A nice place to go with the family. Have never find that place dirty and plenty of spots to park. Love to go there. We celebrated birthdays there had dogs with us went for a walk in the spring time sand had our feets in the water in the summer.
Good park. Nice to have something different available to visit. I bought an annual pass for all the regional parks.
Just recently moved to the area and I was looking for a good spot to take my dog on a walk. Found this place and it is great! Lots of grassy area for picnics, nice walking path through the trees (pretty short) and best of all, great beach access! I also saw there is a longer (4 miles?) paved trail people were biking on. There is also a very nice covered BBQ spot that looks reservable.
Its a great place to take the dogs. Just wish they would open the bathrooms a little sooner
Love this spot
Lots of broken glass. But the Columbia river is a great place
A fantastic wide-open space right on the Columbia River with plenty of room to enjoy a day with family and friends. Or just to take a walk by yourself. Plenty of trash cans to pick up after yourself. Clean restroom facilities. Lots of parking. There is also two playgrounds and two picnic structures with barbecues.
Awesome beach. Its a shame nothing like this exists in Portland!
There is a good place for a big group picnic
Love this park
Great park, not free but nothing is free. Clean and well run. Beware of the drowning risk here for little kids. Make them where life jackets. Big drop off
Great place to go for the summer. Huge park setting, volleyball, river views, and walking paths
Had been years since I had I had been out there was very surprise with all the changes.
Nice place to visit for a barbecue
Very good facilities for a large gathering.
I love this place. Great swimming spot and also open fields for baseball and volleyball.
Rated it a four because you now have to pay to get in. I thought we paid taxes for our parks.
Large park. Lots of picnic tables. Perfect for activities like volleyball, football, etc. Sandy areas as well as grassy areas. Good place to dip into the water!
A great place to relax on the waterfront and soak up some sun. Makes for a great place to walk and observe the bald eagles who perch near the shore.
Always a favorite! Playground right by the beach. Perfect spot to watch the sunset year-round over the Columbia!!
Took my nieces the to swim one evening when it was hot out. Had sooooooooo much fun swimming
My brother took his wedding pics here. Great place!!!
Amazing park with awesome view. Family and pet friendly.
If you are looking for some water and sand, youre in the right place. Frenchmans Bar is where I take my dogs for a good run on the trails. The park is very clean and on cold days its mostly empty. Keep an eye out on sundays there are occasionally church services held there. The volleyball courts are also very nice, be sure to register for them if you plan to spend all day there or you might get kicked out.Sand is clean and the water is very clear. Also a great place to watch the large boats float by.
Convenient beach riverside park thats easy to get to any day or time of the week. City workers and guests keep the beach clean. Most people are very friendly and extremely easy going.
Nice beach with easy access. Lot of fishers the time I went but there is plenty of beach for everyone. Plenty of parking. Too.
Great place to have a picnic/bbq with family and friends. People need to keep their dogs on leashes though. Nice place to walk as well.
Beautiful place, will kept and such a beautiful view of the river, mountains and plenty of space
My main issue is it’s littered in cigarette butts almost everywhere.
Great park. Waterfront is a nice place to relax and sun
Very clean with a play structure for the kids and a great view of the river. It was a fantastic place to have an afternoon BBQ with friends and family.
Another great place to have an outing. Sitting right on the Columbia River this park has modern shelters and barbecues.
My go to spot when I go to the river. Parking is limited but its free. Such a perfect little place
3A beautiful park along the Columbia river and wonderful place for picnic With friends and family
We held a grad party here, and there was some cool stuff, but I dont think it was worth the entrance fee.
In the off days its nice. Get crowded quick on nice days.
A great place for fishing with easy bank access.
A great place to fish! Its always clean the park structures are clean and spacious. The only thing i hate is i feel there is that theres not enough parking.
Close to home, this is a great park in the Summer months. Its usually cooler, albeit windy. Lots of beach, grass, and covered areas with small BBQs makes for a easy family picnic. Volleyball courts too. Late afternoon, looking west, it has great views of the sunset over Sauvie Island and Portlands West Hills. Because entrance to the park is free, be prepared to have trouble finding parking on hot summer weekends though.
Reservation sings not updated and not accurate. Family forced to moved. Loud music, smoking, drinking. Park employees dont care to enforce. I expect better, since parks are charging entrance fees.
Great example of how public space should be utilized! I just which the area had more of them!
