What a gorgeous building. I didn’t attended for a service but they were gracious enough to let our art class roam around and sketch the beautiful architecture. I’d love to visit and sketch again sometime.

Friendly, caring, outreaching to all. Historical art deco building, regardless of your spiritual journey, it is worth visiting and asking for a tour. Large groups can call ahead for an appointment. Architects and draftsmen (gender inclusive) should make every effort to study the building and its controversial history...it is important.

Inclusive, affirming, diverse, thinking culture with a heart for serving the community as the hands, feet, and heart of Jesus. Truly a unique and much needed modern church with the best music, meaningful sermons, and loving fellowship.

This church is mission oriented, reaching out to the community. They are inclusive of all people and their core values reflect Jesus teaching. The historic building is awesome as well.

The Boston Avenue United Methodist Church is many things at once. It is of course first and foremost a house of worship. It is a magnificent example of Art Deco architecture, perhaps one of the finest in the world. It is a striking landmark on the Tulsa skyline both day and night. And it is a tourist attraction which is what my review will highlight. The attached photo is from our room at the nearby Ambassador Hotel. While the hotel is pricey by Tulsa standards this view alone makes it all worthwhile. Tulsa has many examples of dramatic architecture for its houses of worship but the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church is one that stands alone ... literally ... from every angle.

We walked by on a church day to look at the architecture and were welcomed warmly by ushers outside. We haven’t attended church in years but were impressed by the warmth, inclusivity, and obvious effort to build a welcoming community for everyone. The building is beautiful and the people seem to be as well.

I love the inclusive, laid back, family friendly 13th Street Worship service! Having the images on the screen and the interactive sermons really helps me to retain the messages week-to-week. As a musician, I also love getting to use my gifts and tallents in the band as well!

Im not a Methodist but an art deco fan: this church does NOT disappoint! The majority of the church is completed in art deco style- stained glass, exterior statuary, overall building exterior, interior flooring, woodwork, mosaics, chapel design and layout. Even the seat cushioning in done in a soft lilac. The church is open to view and explore just check in at the front desk to grab a guest badge and map showing you the layout. Definitely worth chucking out if you enjoy beautiful architecture.

We made the side trip to Tulsa solely to see this Church as I had no idea what Art Deco architecture meant. Ive had the privilege of visiting beautiful churches/abbeys in Europe, specifically Germany (in fact, in 74 was married in a Schoeningen FRG church built in 1300s w/former priests buried in the walls), France (Notre Dame), England (Westminster Abbey), The Vatican, as well as Washington National Cathedral in D.C. but, in my opinion, from an architectural perspective Boston Avenue United Methodist Church would hold its own with any of them. I was impressed and would encourage a visit to this very different but beautiful Church.

I guess if you like monotone preachers this is a perfect fit. I was spoiled when I lived in Woodstock, GA and attended the baptist church there. Preacher Johnny Hunt kept everyone’s attention. He is a great storyteller of the Bible and infusing his life captures you. Old and young alike are captivated and begin to understand the Bible more fully. They can relate and believe in God stronger than they ever did before. The Woodstock Baptist Church has quadrupled in members and size due to getting a minister who could break the Bible down to layman terms and experiences. Preacher Hunt was prepared, memorizing his sermon so he did not lose eye contact with his members. This is very important when you compare giving a speech or a sermon. Looking down and reading line by line you lose your audience. Plain and simple if you look at your attendance of your members or lack of is due to simple things. You need to be upbeat, exciting and willing to use your life stories in your sermons. Be positive, know that you can change your voice tone throughout and keep it interesting. My mother and I are Christians first and a Methodist secondly. My mother has been watching Boston Avenue on tv for about twenty years since she was unable to attend church in person. She really enjoyed the Preacher prior to Wiggs. He kept her attention now she falls asleep as do I. I’m not saying Wiggs should be replaced. He just needs some insight and needs to attend a speech group. Or go to Woodstock, GA and see what he is missing.
