Make sure you call before visiting. they have educational programs for the community throughout the week that they keep to themselves. I guess a note on their door is informing the public that they arent accepting visitors.
Excellent animal rehab! They rescued the baby rabbits (dog killed mother) and they did so will gusto! From what I saw from Brukners was a family friendly and educational place to bring your children or even to visit for piece of mind. The isolation they have eliminated any vehicle noises and the drive there was beautiful. We plan on going again and bringing the kids!
Beautiful trails, the ability to take time to enjoy the outdoors as well as see a few outdoor wildlife neighbors. Indoor exhibits are closed, dont let that stop you. You can spend the day or as little as an hour...your choice.
Nice parking and picnic area. Loved the animal ambassadors section. There were various birds, including a bald eagle, and mammals, such as a fox and a bobcat. The American Crow talks! We heard it say American Crow and So cool!. It was a fun place to take the kids. Some trail areas had a lot of mosquitoes, so bring your repellent of choice. The trails do have some steep sections, and a couple of segments of the boardwalk trail needed repair at the time that we visited, but that was during COVID-19, so staffing was limited. I would definitely go again.
Wonderful place for families. There are 2 ponds and many trails to walk. We also enjoy seeing the old house and all of the animals that they have there. We have counted 13 turtles in the small pond, but I wouldnt be surprised if there are even more!
Such a neat place! The shelter was closed but there were animals along the trail. Very nice hiking trail
They were incredibly kind and helpful. They took my red bellied woodpecker that Ive been feeding for over a year. He injured his wing somehow and they were more than helpful. He will hopefully be home soon. Thank you for your kindness!
Very helpful and informative. Found a 3-week-old North American flying squirrel and they took it in to take care of it. Thank you Bruckner nature center.
Very pretty especially in fall and there are animals to see for free as well as lots if trails
Ok, animals to check out. Trails can be a challenge for older folks. Not for the physically needy.
If it were not fore covid I woule have liked to visit some of there indoore animal exibits but thankfully there out dore exibits were open I have always liked this organisation.
Great place to take a walk if you like to get off paved path animals to see just a great place to go
A local treasure! The nicest and most helpful team that works there too.
Lovely trails. Animals are great too!
Make sure you have plenty of time to enjoy
This place has always been my favorite for hiking. it has caged animals such as foxes coyote and birds too like eagles and owls. there are various paths and maps along the way, and a few creeks where fish and frogs live. definitely a 10/10
Slick on some trails. BE CAREFUL.
This is one of my favorite places to escape my busy week. They offer wonderful educational programs for young and old. Their Run Wild 5k is always a fun but challenging course.I can spend many happy moments at their animal vistas. If you are ever in need of wildlife help or advice, they are experts here. They are truly an asset to our community and one of the many reasons Miami County is great.
Great place. We took our grandkids. They love the animals. Especially the coyote.
A lot of really nice trails. Not too difficult to hike. We were surprised to see the animals that they have protected at the nature center but it was a nice surprise. You dont get to often see animals like that unless you are at the zoo and this was free to see. The nature center looks very nice from the outside and I hope to go back and check it out another day.
Great trails, beautiful sights, easy to understand signs.
Ive been going here for over 20 years know.. it never gets old...Love the turtles..
They have helped so many animals that would have certainly perished without their help. The trails are well maintained and the staff is helpful and welcoming.
Great trails to hike! Not too hard but you will still get a workout! Very informative about the animals that are native to the area! Great place to take injured critters!
Great place. I love the bird lookout on the top floor. Love the animals. Id recomend going. :D
Enjoyable walk with nice scenery
We attended a surprise retirement party at Brukner Nature Center. The room is beautiful. Chairs and tables are included, client sets up and tears down tables and chairs. Client brings in their own Linens. The client may bring in their own beer and wine, and hire a caterer. There is a catering kitchen. The kitchen is stocked with China, stemware, and flatware that must be used during the event. No disposables. The goal is to have very little disposable trash. Venue provided buckets for recycling glass bottles, they also provided a bucket for food waste and scraps for their compost pile. The center has a gorgeous Trail, plenty of parking, and an inside exploratory area for children and adults. The room holds around 70 guests.
Great place I brought in baby rabbits that were injured by my cat, and they were so kind, I was at a loss for what to do and they helped me get the rabbits the care they needed. Wonderful place.
Fantastic place to take the kids. They had a blast!!
I haven’t been there in years but wow is it nice! We saw countless birds in their bird viewing area, raccoon baby’s and mama on the ground viewing and enjoyed the animals and the well kept trails. Loved coming here as a kid and still love it just as much as an adult. A must if you like the outdoors and animals.
Great place to take kids!
I wish I was able to spend more time at this place.
Brukner Nature Center is a terrific place to simply relax. Walking the numerous wooded trails, checking out the animals, or exploring the pond, its a wonderful way to spend a little time. Its also a great way to get kids more acquainted and appreciative of the natural world around them.
Great place to visit
Lousy they would not let no one in the building
A nice (free) place to get out in nature, good hiking, great for families. Recently added a lovely outdoor play area.NOTE: Getting into the building DOES cost, and the facility does not take cards.
The animals are so cool! This is a great place for a family hike
Great place to spend some time in the woods.
Beside the fact of payment to walk around or go inside, I think that the animals were cute and cool and I would definitely come back :)
Awesome holly trails!
Great place to take the kids and walk the Paths.
Beautiful, rustic nature center. Lots of trails of varying degrees of difficulty. Very peaceful. Great place to bring the kids.
Very helpful when I found an injured opossum. They even keep you updated on the animals!
Great place to meet our native wildlife and spend time in the great outdoors
Great place for kids some trails not suitable for small children
Nice place to walk around.
There are no details to share except for the details missed by Brukner website. For instance my wife and I drove over 100 miles to visit and did not know that pets were nor allowed until we pulled in. If there is something on the website then it needs to be made more visible.
Great place. Nice hiking trails and nature center.
I found a bat on the ground and it was cold out. I put him in a box and took care of it overnight. The next morning we called Brukner Nature Center and even though they were not taking any animals we were told to bring it in . The folks were super nice and very helpful . It’s a big center with lots to see and do. If you get a chance drop in and check them out .
Absolutely love this place! My children live walking there. Just a heads up some of the paths are pretty hilly. But if you make it back to the swamp boardwalk go for it your kids will love it!
Update to previous rating:I am happy to now give Bruckner a 5 star rating. It is my favorite place to hike. Most of the previously mentioned problems have been fixed and they even had an eagle scout build a bridge at one of the more difficult areas to cross. From what I have learned the Stillwater path is an ongoing problem for keeping it widened. Bruckner has great programs and an great staff. They are always looking for more volunteers though so please sign up.Previous Review:would normally give this place 5 stars and will update my review after the problems are fixed but Brukner is not doing a good job of maintaining their paths. My husband and I discovered a huge tree lying across the stairs heading down on the Buckeye trail more than a month ago and we were the ones to report it. It still has not been fixed and they have that area blocked off. We tried to hike the Stillwater path and the Swamp path just yesterday and both are so overgrown they are un-walkable. We plowed through though just to help push some of the brush out of the way. There are points at which you can no longer even see the path. We are planning to ask if they need volunteers to help widen the path. The Still water path is the worst with stinging nettle so overgrown that you cant avoid getting brushed by it. And the Swamp path has many logs that have washed over to block the wood plank path. Some of the wood plank path is beginning to feel unsteady. If a path is as in walkable as the Stillwater path then they should close it temporarily for repairs rather than having people walk half way in only to find they have to turn around.
Very nice center. Fun things to do.
Clean safe hiking paths and wonderful nature experiences. Well kept indoors and out. Go here all the time.
What a beautiful and peaceful place, I & a group of us love to hike and run the trails, No pets allowed but plenty of animals roaming and cared for at the center to see! :)
Spectacular!! This was by far our favorite hike to date! We have visited many, many parks, seeking out places to walk/hike among natural settings and this one was a real joy to experience. On a low note, the swamp or marsh section was inaccessible to get all the way through it due to very high water in that area. There is a boardwalk, however it is a very low budget one that needs to be updated or revamped to allow this area of the trail to be more thoroughly enjoyed regardless of the water level. There are also areas in this section that could use some low level maintenance to make it easier to be accessed by visitors as there is vegetation that is over-growing the paths and the boardwalk. The other areas, coupled with the vast changes in elevation and the small water stream that runs throughout the preserve combined really made for an exhilarating and fun time while being surrounded by nature. There is a building on the property however it was closed during our visit so we were unable to go inside and explore.
Gorgeous trails, a cool aviary, and in general is not very busy. Easy to find a quiet spot to yourself.
Interesting place, some animals n it. Great place for hiking.
Beautiful and family oriented! My kids loved it! Happy we got the pass because we will be back!
I loved it.
Excellent place to get out and see nature. Kind friendly, too.
They Haunted Trail was fantastic. They kids had a great time.
Cool and educational place to go visit. My daughter, wife and I all went for under $10. Cool to see wildlife from our area at a place that knows how to properly care for the animals. My 1.5 year old loved the bird watching room and the owls outside. Haven’t walked any trails here but probably will in the future. Nice to have a place like this in Troy.
Lots of hiking trails. Variety of small animals to learn about and see up close. Knowledgeable staff
Daughter loves all the animals and pictures. We will be back.
Brukner has a very nice nature center and wildlife rehabilitation facilities. There are several animals permanently living in nice enclosures on site. There are a few miles of hiking trails through several different types of forest and wetlands. They also have a picnic area and a log cabin near the nature center. Classes and programs are held at the nature center for a fee, and memberships are available.
Only outside open now
Very nice facility with live native animal exhibits, bird watching rooms, educational information. Quite a few very nice trails to explore. Trails are well marked, but not paved which we prefer. Will definitely be back. Nice that it is reciprocal admission with Aulwood Audubon Center, but even if you arent a member it is a reasonable $2.50 admission.
Went there to hike the trails to start getting in shape for our elk hunting trip in November in Colorado. Very nice trails with several Hills up and down. Beautiful scenery along the river and creeks. Seen several deer and other wildlife
Great place to take the children. They have various animals that you can walk by on the paths. The American Crows were awesome. They were literally talking back and forth to me and my kids. They would keep saying, American Crow after you would say something to them. They sounded like parrots. The kids loved it! They also had a hawk, owl, bobcat, skunk, and more. Oh, and it was free.
The Brukner Nature Center is an absolutely amazing place to go and visit! While it is a touch on the smaller side, and I am not exactly keen on the housing for some of their larger animals in the collection, the trails, educational value and helpful staff more than make up for it. I particularly love that they do not just focus on the well known or well loved species within their educational programs, there were some animals that I had not heard of (which is a big deal for me) within their collections. If you are a birder, I highly recommend their bird viewing station on the top floor. Though, I would recommend this site for everyone!
Wonderful place very hospitable. we just run it out to one of their large rooms for a baby shower for a young couple from our church. The kids enjoyed the animals downstairs the bird Observatory and the outside animals and the trails
Beautiful setting. Some rescued animals. Interesting art displays. Large bird observatory. Can be muddy if recent rains!
The trails are nice. My son loves to look for animals at the pond. One time we were lucky enough to catch a family of deer along one of the trails. Inside the building there is a nice room to bird watch. There are pens of animals outside as well as in. It is a great learning experience for all ages.
Well taken care of trails. Spent a few hiws just wondering and seen some wildlife and some great foliage coming in. The still water trail was still quite muddy but wasnt flooded out. Overall a great time and cant wait to go back.
Great places to walk and explore. Just wish they allowed access to rest rooms.
Great place to hike and explore. Children love it
Great nature center and trails. The animal exhibits and bird watching area are fun stops.
Beautiful trail and a great selection of animals!
Always time well spent hiking at Brukner...
A lot good things to look at
I love this place, I kissed my boyfriend here for the first time . And we have been dating for 3 years. He showed me how to love birds and care for wildlife.
Love making the trip to Brukner Nature Center. Great place for kids to have some amazing hands on learning experiences. There are so many fun things to do when you are here. Make sure to spend some time in the Bird Observation Room.
Awesome place for a hike and my daughter loved all the animals they had. While hiking we walked up on 2 snakes and a wild turkey.
Aways a great place to visit lots to learn for all ages
The Miami County Visitors Bureau has been a proud supporter of Brukner Nature Center for well over 28 years. This privately funded nature center offers excellent programming for children, cares for injured and orphaned wildlife, and has some of the most breathtaking nature trails in the State of Ohio. The despicable person who posted a Google review on March 18th, 2019 blatantly lied about this facility and should be concerned about using slanderous comments.
Awesome place to take the Family, great hiking, nice and cool, Children enjoy the wild animals on display!
My wife and I have two kids and found ourselves going to Bruckner after church to spend some family time. We loved it untill they posted a polerizing sign in the door explaining everyone was welcome expect if your white, male, or Christian. No idea why any organization would exclude a subset of our population but they did. Our family being Caucasian and Christian didnt stand a chance. The front desk asked us to leave. I am male, so that didnt help. I wasnt allowed to speak and the front desk only communicated through my wife. We left. As a libertarian, I believe they can service who they want. But as a warning to anyone that isnt a gay minority; save yourself the embarrassment. I have never been so humiliated in my life.
Amazing place, very friendly staff . Very beautiful and well maintained .
Amazing nature education center and trails. Simply cant list all of the assets. Go see for yourself.
This is my go to place for hiking.
