River Creek can be an amazing experience if you come prepared. There are lots of great trails and wildlife to be seen. You can truly get lost in nature! It’s huge and after multiple hikes I still haven’t seen it all. But it’s not for someone looking for an easy, managed hike. After you get off the main road, the trails aren’t well maintained. But they are still doable. Just be prepared with long pants and boots. There are no markings on the trail, and only one rudimentary map that isn’t going to help you much. If you want a nice stroll in nature, go to Cherokee Park and walk around the lake. But if you want to see wild turkey, foxes, amazing birds, and even bobcats, River Creek is for you. Bring water and bug spray. Oh and a hunting or fishing license are required, although no one has ever asked me to show it.
