Its a nice place to look around. Theres several great buildings in the back. The welcome was not that friendly but it was around lunch time and folks do get hungry. The self guilded tour is 5.00 per adult and guided tours are 8.00We were not offered a guided tour I guess because of the time. We usually enjoy a guided tour more. Its is worth the time to visit.

Another one of several neat places to visit in downtown Thomasville. We did a self guided tour and learned about Thomasvilles rich history and got a chance to see some really interesting artifacts. I would recommend it to anyone who is exploring downtown with Friends and Family.

We visited the museum on Saturday, September 22. The gentleman that was to greet us was not any help. He had us sign in and then headed to the office. It would have been nice if he would have given a little speech about Thomasville (as we are new to the area) or at least a greeting to say welcome to Thomasville. I even had to go find him to ask how to get to the outside buildings. The buildings outside were very nice and we enjoyed that .

Disappointed by the lack of welcome we received. The rooms in the Center showcased local history of the area. What we werent told about were the historic buildings located behind the Museum. Fortunately, my husband happened to walk back there and find they were open for viewing. There just seemed to be a lack of enthusiasm in general.

This is such a unique and fun history center! The staff is absolutely the best, and the museum is well curated and cared for. It offers a fascinating insight into the areas local history, including the Civil War and Victorian eras. The grounds are equally as great, with over 3 acres of manicured grounds peppered with a historic log cabin, Victorian era bowling alley, farm cottage and 1800s wooden courthouse. Just down the street is another huge Victorian mansion maintained by the center (the Lapham Patterson House) that provides great tours. Located in Thomasvilles Victorian Dawson Street district, this History Center is a true hidden gem!

We all must cherish our past. The people, places and things that make us who we are today. Thomasville has the most interesting history. This was a place of Presidents and Dignitaries who once vacationed and lived here. The streets are named for those who will live on in history forever. The museum tells all the stories of the past.

If you are stopping by Thomasville make a trip to this museum. From the outside it is pretty enough but it really is much larger then it appears. We were lucky enough to go on a Saturday, and the former curator of the museum was our guide. We were taken on a 2&1/2 hour tour through the history of Thomas county and there were still exhibits we only glossed over which we could easily go back and spend even more time looking at.. It was amazing. Pictures, antiques, old uniforms and clothing, tableware, cameras, weapons, quilts, buildings, the list goes on and on. They have a total of I think 8 buildings of which 5 were available for us to go inside, they included the main house, a rear building which I wont spoil the surprise of, a log cabin and attached kitchen building, and a small 2 room house which functioned as a place of business as well as a home. It isnt very expensive to get in and it is easily a great value for admission.
