Awesome renovation of a historic theatre!! My jaw dropped when we walked in - just stunning! Saw a show there and our seats near the back still gave us a great view. Loved that there is a lower level with womens bathrooms and another bar - both very uncrowded - mixed drinks were very reasonable - Bacardi and grapefruit was only $8 which is very cheap for a theatre. Wish we lived closer to this magnificent theatre!!
Ive only been there once for Chevy Chase, but it was a cool, unique atmosphere to spend a few hours for some entertainment. The only knock was an issue with the Christmas Vacation Movie, but honestly it wasnt that big of a deal! I had a beer while I was there and that was delicious. Definitely recommend and cant wait to see another show there!
The outside of the theatre its not much to look at but the inside is where are the details are! Its in decent enough shape but still awesome to look at. Stained glass exit signs, three bars (one on each level) and carved details are everywhere. There is little to no slope in the first 20 rows so if you are short it can be hard to see over the people in front of you. Would def go see a show here again.
We had a wonderful time together at this performance. It was my first time here and I felt a little rushed inside the main lobby to go to our seats. I wanted to look at how beautiful the detail was on the walls and ceilings before the show started and the lights were still on. The seats were great no matter where you sat to see everything
First time here to see John Prine. Awesome show!!!! The theater is pretty nice too. Very well preserved and very ornate decore. My big nick is the fact that you cant bring your drinks into the theater. I can see that for some shows but at this show were talking most folks over sixty. As a result the lobby was packed so tight you could hardly move.
Beautiful building. Seating was very comfortable. Audience was full of young children, yet we could hear and see everything that went on. Very helpful and patient staff.
Historic theater in Syracuse, N.Y. Beautiful murals of a time gone by. Many great concerts with awesome seating and sound. If you are lucky you may get to see Clarisse. She is the ghost who roams the balcony!
Nice but dated building. Steps are steep inside with no hand rails so not great for elderly people. Parking is difficult as well
Great venue, historic location. Staff was helpful and friendly. Getting a little run down, but hopefully the grant they were awarded helps with that.
Absolutely gorgeous theater with surprisingly comfortable seats! The staff is very helpful. There are a couple places to get snacks and cocktails. The theater is easy to find and even if youre in the balcony, you can see everything clearly happening on stage. I would go there again, 100%!
I am 62 and cannot sit in the seats without some kind of pain. My knees are jammed into the seat in front of me, and the the seat itself is so narrow that it digs into my sides. This would be an excellent venue if they would change out the seats for something more modern. I understand that it is a historical treasure, but if they still want to use it as a venue, some compromises have to be made.
Its a lovely place, the remodeling makes it look great. However, the 8x11 pieces of paper taped everywhere saying if the smoke alarms go off we cancel the show didnt add to the ambiance. Those notices were even taped to the dryers in the ladies room. How classy
Gorgeous building! Wonderful acoustics! Our seats have been in the balcony - no problem seeing or hearing. Weve been to three musicals and cant wait for the next season. Only drawback is parking is a bit hard. We finally just parked in the pricey garage.
Going to see the Steve Martin Martin Short show at the Landmark Theater was a wonderful experience; not just the show but also for the venue itself. As we entered the South Salina Street lobby the design of this opulent venue was obviously by Thomas W. Lamb. Originally opened the 18th day of February 1928 by the Loew’s Corporation the lobby featured a chandelier designed by Louis Tiffany for Cornelius Vanderbilt’s mansion, exquisite murals, and tapestries. This theatre was open for business from 1928 until its closure in 1975. The Syracuse Area Landmark Theatre (SALT) then bought and restored this local landmark to its former state of grandeur in a 2011 renovation project.Watching a production here will transport you back in time, surrounded by the architecture, décor, and ambiance for the late 1920’s. Advertised as “the last word in theatrical ornateness and luxuriousness,” many a folk frequented this incredible venue for reprise form the reality of the outside world. During this time the Great Depression and World War II were the events that the theater patrons could escape from for a few hours and enter the plush grandeur of this magnificent building.Above I had mentioned that the Loew’s Corporation was the original owner of this theater, and why yes, it is the same as Loew’s cinemas you might go to today and spend $27.50 for a soda and popcorn. The days when corporations took pride in the experience of their customers; except they strictly segregated the seating well into the 20th century. So, basically Loew’s (who are not the current owners) were not thinking of their customers back then either.Kudos to SALT for their restoration of both the theater and for the equality of all their customers.
Awesome place, great historical value in the building. Took my son to paw patrol live I was surprised to see alchohol and wine served at 2pm. It got so bad my kid said that it smelled of boozs
Awesome venues, the seats in the upper half were so cramped that I had to stand in the aisle and stretch my legs for the second half of the show. Im just over 6 foot tall, so if you have long legs, consider paying more for a closer seat or possibly an end seat to get some leg room.
Beautiful place the inside is lovely. The chairs however are terrible, very uncomfortable but they are very very old and have had many visitors sitting on them. It is a very old building and in the midst of a renovation, when it is summer and full of people to enjoy a concert or event it can get quite warm so dress in comfortably breathable clothes to stay comfortable.
As a Syracuse native and a fan of live music I have been to the Landmark dozens of times. Everything from heavy metal to stage shows have graced the stage and pulled me in for a nights entertainment. Now, my three star review doesnt reflect my love for this venue! There really isnt a better spot to see a show in Syracuse but recently it seems as though maintenance on this beautiful old building is falling behind. Granted, keeping up with all of the repairs that are inherent with a nearly 100 year old theater can be a daunting and expensive task, Im sure, but is something that really should be more of a priority. Even the marquee is in disrepair. Finally, in the era of craft beer, and a burgeoning number of breweries in and around Syracuse, its sad to see that they have a very limited beer selection at shows. This had started getting better for a while but when we went to see Weird Al a couple weeks ago their beer selection was in a sad state for sure. The only local craft they had on tap was from empire brewery and thats not really considered to be craft beer by enthusiasts. The Landmark should easily be a 5 star establishment but, unfortunately, it is falling short. Its my sincerest hope that I am forced to amend this review with one that fully praises this Syracuse staple
Byfar the most gorgeous venue I have ever seen. very beautiful hand painted and hand carved stone walls.
Loved the musical! Always love going here. Gorgeous interiors!
The walls and ceilings are so beautiful and reminds you what the city used to be. The negative is the seats are small and are in need of repair. Such a historic place.
Such an awesome place. Great if you enjoy architecture. It needs some renovations but such a cool theatre.
The show was awesome. The seats r a bit to small. But I look forward to going to future shows
Went to a performance and it was terrific. Being an older theater, the leg room was a little crowded and parts of your view of the stage was obstructed due to how the seats were laid out.
Im struggling with the sound quality of the venue. For the last two performances here Ive had a hard time understanding the actors on stage. I thought it was just my seat, but others Ive talked to have also had the day he complaint.
Always love going to this lovely venue! I enjoyed it as a kid and now its great sharing it with my children.
Very historical and elegant theatre it not much leg room in seat aisles
A historical theatre in an easy to find location. They have great seating when it comes to how anyone can view the stage. Ive sat down in around 5 or 6 locations in this place and never had an issue. Never had a problem with bathrooms or concessions, though their may be a lot of people they handle it well and service quickly. The design of the place is lovely as well. Been to many shows at this place since high school, I always look forward to returning here.
Yesterday I brought my son to see Weird Al Yankovic. We drove the 2 hours and I am so glad we did! Every single employee was welcoming, the place is breathtaking and considering the hundreds of people mulling about, exceptionally clean! I highly recommend.
Really cool place. Not a bad seat. We traveled nearly 3 hours for the show and My family enjoyed the show. Would attend a shower here again.
An oldie but a goodie. This is an older venue, with a great stage and a great acoustics. Theres plenty of seating, including a balcony. This place offers great visibility pretty much anywhere you are seated. This place hosts everything from concerts to comedians to brewfests!
The play was phenomenal! The music was awesome, and the set was fantastic. The cant had so much energy, it took my breath away
Its an old pretty theater. We love going to shows here, its the perfect place to grab dinner before and drinks after. Since it is old its got a lot of quirks, like smaller seats with much less leg room than were used to now a days and some of the lights are supplemented with stage lights during seating. Its beautiful though and makes for great pictures! I love walking around and looking at all the art and architectural details. Theres always plenty of staff around to ask for help finding your way around.
We visited the Landmark Theater to see Book of Mormon. This historic facility is a great venue to see Theatrical Productions as well as live music events. Great acoustics .This theater was built in the golden age of cinema. Glorious, ornate architecture. Fun to explore all of its nooks. We greatly enjoyed Book of Mormon as well very irreverent and probably the funniest musical I have been to.
Historic theater and a truly funny comedian makes for a memorable night for our family.
Front row pit seats for the Fluffy! Shaweet! Only docted a star for the 8$ mixers.
Fabulous place. Saw Jesus Christ Superstar and it was totally Amazing, Awesome, Fantastic, didnt want it to end. Cast were Marvelous!!!
The Landmark is a true gem. The brilliant architecture and the world class shows make this a must visit for anyone looking to find cultural attraction. In addition, the staff and management is very involved in the community, hosting a myriad of events to raise awareness about local things like business openings and children events. Truly a Syracuse landmark if there ever was one.
This venue has the smallest seats ever. Im 6 and had to get an aisle seat and sit sideways. I wouldnt call this place ADA compliant. Sound is pretty good here, but they only get maybe one interesting act a year, and theyre on par with the acts that other cities book for free outdoor summer concerts. Concessions are too pricey for Syracuse, and they might be keeping the climate control a bit on the hot side to get people to shell out three times the cost of a coke. Id rather make the trip to another city to see a touring act than see a show here.
A throw back in time, fun venue to see a show.
Very ornate, very old, very beautiful deco as you walk through the front door! Its like taking a step back in time! The main bathrooms on the other hand are very modern so you dont lose out on modern necessities. Im impressed with detailed wood work around the entire building. Even the ceiling!
The place is amazing. I hope they do more shows often!
The theatre itself is immaculate. Detailed artistic construction make this place a magnificent work of art. The shows there are usually fantastic. BUT.... The seating there is made for people 175 lbs or less and under 6 feet tall. Anyone over that is probably going to be rather uncomfortable.
Book of Mormon. Great performance
Great turn of the century old movie house that has been restored to its glory. Unbelievable architecture and fantastic acoustics. Only drawback is the security thinks they can bully and intimidate anyone. I was screamed at by one who told me he was sick of having to tell me no photographs, and is here did it again, he would throw me and my date out.Funny thing was, I was using Google Keyboard to update the setlist the band was playing, not taking a photo, and have been told even once proper to her laying hey hands on me and shooting so aggressively.I advised her I hadnt been spoken to once, about anything, and hey response was well you have been now...I went and asked to speak with the building manager, who asked me cell phone photos were dinner, and her would go have a talk with her right then.He did, and they backed off, but I had watched them bully people for sample an hour proper to me hoping to speak with a manager.Thats the only reason for the four and not five stars.
We went to see Weird All Yankovic (it was great). Here are some points.- Even with the big crowd it was easy to go around.- The toilets on the first floor are small (3 out of 4 were working), but there is some bigger bathrooms in the basement of the building.- Bring water and something to use as a fan (like a piece of paper), because since the building is old, there is no AC or very little.- The building is gorgeous, you should definitely take the time to explore a bit, it really is something.- We were able to park for free by parking 5 minutes away from the theater
The show was great. Ugh, that poor theater, though. Definately needs an investor to do a complete restoration. The way in which the concessions and merchandising tables are set up are not convenient or safe. This poor venue needs some TLC.
Beautiful old guilded age theatre.
Seats are crazily cramped. If you ever want to know what a sardine feels like, go to the landmark
Theater is beautiful. Great unobstructed view of stagger from almost everywhere. Seats are small, leg room minimal.
A little crowded due to the play but staff was professional and polite great experience will return again.
Loved the comic, the seats are very small and everyone is packed together, needs alot of TLC, but very beautiful piece of history!
This is a beautiful theater to go and see any performance. They do offer wine, sodas, and water. But, unfortunately they only offer candy as food snacks. I wish they would offer chips or anything but just candy. The seating is plentiful and not cramped. Its very easy to find your seats or be directed to one. The street does get crowded on busy nights but its not horrendous.
First time going to the Landmark Theatre it was a great time. Fluffy killed it.
Its like being in a theater from the golden days! I am awestruck every time I go!
Beautiful theatre, but the seats... oh no the seats. Parking is hard to find, so best to arrange transportation. Okay the seats, depending on where you sit and how big/tall you are... it will be painful and uncomfortable to say the least. I understand the desire to fit as many seats as possible, but its time to remove some and give your customers something a little more comfortable!
Disappointed with the condition of such a Landmark. Kind of sad to see peeling paint and such. Bathroom situation was awful. Poorly organized for obtaining a beer before the show. Quite chaotic overall. Definitely plan to arrive early and pay $15 to park in the garage if you cant find a spot on the street. Not in a hurry to see a show there anytime soon.
Its a beautiful old theater, host to many amazing performances. Get there if you can, for any occasion!
Beautiful and historic. I LOVE going to the Landmark.. for any event.
It is such a beautiful and historic facility. Im hoping the city will spend a little money to restore some of the worn out areas and bring it back to its original grandeur! Found out today you can have your wedding there. Great alternative.
The theater is beautiful, unique, and historic. However once our tickets were scanned, I was then stopped by another person who insisted she search my small purse, claiming to be looking for food. Really?! A 60 + year old woman trying to smuggle food into an evening play? A DMB concert or The Great New York State Fair...maybe. But live theater?! It set the tone and made it hard for me to enjoy the performance. If I ever go back, Im going to bring large quantities of plastic food just to see what they say! Maybe a full turkey dinner. Ha!
The space in between the chairs for leg room is inadequate. I am only 5’4 and my knees were on fire the entire time
Very nice venue. Sound quality is good, and inter decor is beautiful and classic. Leg room is a touch tight for the taller folks, but seats are very comfortable.
Gorgeous venue! Also really well run - friendly and helpful staff. Hint: theres a basement bar and bathrooms that always have shorter lines!
Went to Jersey Boys..good seats accoustics just ok and was very hot
Ive been here for many shows and normally sit closer to the orchestra, but did not have the opportunity with the last show that we saw last night. it was a great show and I always get some nostalgia when I go and visit the landmark theater. The seats are just so tiny they end up being very uncomfortable. But, I cannot complain because I really do love Syracuse and the old buildings they have. It is very intricate and the details of all the paintings and wall scrolls are gorgeous. Also the wait to get beer or even water is completely insane.. the water fountains dont work.
Show was great and staff members were very helpful.
My mom went to see a production here. She needs a walker to get around. She called ahead and was assured that there were accommodations for her walker to be taken care of and accessible. She got there, and they insisted it had to be taken out of the main theater room because it was a fire hazard to be set within. They took it who knows where and gave her a ticket number for retrieval. She was told if she needed it to let an usher know and they would get it for her. During intermission she wanted to use the restroom so she requested her walker. They spent the entire intermission trying to find it. Thankfully with the help of her friend she was able to get to the restroom at her own pain expense. Finally they returned her walker and told her they couldn’t find it because somebody else took it by mistake! Are you kidding me!? You let whoever take somebody’s personal necessary possession because you insist it must be under your “supervision” but you lose it? So handicapped guests are basically stranded in the theater at your mercy? So God forbid there actually was a gunman or actual fire and everyone needed to be evacuated they would have no way out! (Because I’ll bet you anything in that event, your employees are not making sure they’re returning those assistive devices first to make sure those people have equal opportunity to escape like everyone else). So the walker being folded up against the wall is a “fire hazard” for people to trip over trying to escape, but the people who need those to escape are going to be the very last priority in a fire... WHERE IS THE COMMON SENSE IN THAT LANDMARK?! What is wrong with these people?! Will NOT be doing that again. Bottom line NOT HANDICAP FRIENDLY!!!!
I have been to many shows at the Landmark. That being said something has to change. It is like a cattle call trying to enter people are pushing constantly, as you have reserved seats what is the issue .I watched people in wheelchairs being totally ignored as they tried to navigate and no one would let them in.Why can’t each theater entrance once inside be condoned off to have a manageable number of people entering. As the theater holds 3000 people it needs some restructuring for entering. I will be arriving at the last minute from now on. I am not enduring that again.
This is a beautiful and historical place in the downtown community. I hope we never get rid of this historic building.
I love how ornate it Is! Beautiful place for wedding or something special!
The seats are not staggered so if you want to be sure to see get up close. The person in front of me had a large head, and I couldnt see. There was a tall person three rows down that blocked my husbands view. Beautiful theater and very helpful guides. Small stage and seats that are hard to sit in for three hours...not comfortable.
The box office was very gracious in helping me select tickets. Of course the theater decor is wonderful! Its a joy each time I see it. The orchestra was a delight! The movie was not my cup of tea, but the idea was smart.
If you like the feel of the old-fashioned theaters with plush velvet covered seats, ornate styling for chandeliers, staircases, carpeting, etc., then you will love the ambience. I took my granddaughter to see Cinderella . The actors and orchestra were superb. It is an easy theater to get to and there is ample parking in a garage one block away.
Just saw Neil DeGrasse Tyson and it was a great show! Ive seen a few other concerts over the years and Landmark is a great place! Great sound and views from any seat!
Historic and beautiful. Need to update the seats though.
This is a Beautiful Theatre for Plays, Movies and Concerts. The interior is absolutely incredible Gorgeous and and extremely maintained. With Gold Chandeliers with Gold Leaf Paint has a High Class feeling, like in Las Vegas. Very old but always keep with Renovations to modern Lightning and Sound. There is not a “Bad” Seat in the Landmark Theatre. With a Balcony the upper level is just great with a wonderful view. Downside is Street side Parking with a Parking Garage close by. When Concert Tickets go on Sale, they sell quickly too. Smaller than the War Memorial a couple of blocks way but far classier Venues in Syracuse New York. Highly recommend this Theatre, you want be dissatisfied and the have Bar for Wine and Beer.
We saw Jersey Boys and had a great time singing along with the tunes!
I went to see Weird Al Yankovic, live. It was truly a grand experience.
Beautiful historic theater. Great place to see a musical. Parking was available a block away from the theatre. Seats are tight if youre over 6 tall, but thats typical for a historic theatre.
Who knew this would be such a fabulous venue for a wedding? Apparently, my sister did and we all had such a great time! Danielle is a fantastic coordinator, and the set up with extra rooms for resting children and the wedding party was just perfect. I cant wait to see the pictures, since the venue was so gorgeous. I remember the Landmark from decades ago, where I had my dance recital every year and attended some great concerts. Now I have a fresh memory, and this place continues to impress.
The theater is easy to get to. Drinks arent too expensive, and are made better than average honestly. If your pee shy be prepared to hold it. Mens/womens gets crowded fast. The seats are great for hobbits with big booties. But if your above 55 and have an average or less rear prepare to be uncomfortable. The environment, shows, and service have always been fantastic.
Went and saw fluffy had an amazing time!
A great time at the EDC held in the historic Landmark Theater
Small seats but BEAUTIFUL venue and the ushers are very helpful/kind. The manager (Rebecca) is awesome!
This was a beautiful place to see a show. I went to see Dirty Dancing with my family and all five of us had a great time. I gave this four stars instead of five because the parking can be a real pain, but it was well worth it. I also saw Wicked here the year before and it was also wonderful.
The landmark Theatre is one of the oldest theatres in the Central New York area. The Landmark Theatre is known to be one of the oldest buildings in Syracuse. It offers concerts, movies, guest speakers, along with holiday performances. If you look into the Landmark Theatre you will see that something is always going on there. The landmark is also known for being haunted. The theatre also offers tours if interested. It is handicap accessible and there is free parking.
This was a truly amazing experience. This is an incredible theatre that has such rich history. This is a theatre that you will not regret going too, this is such a beautiful theatre and it is a true Landmark!
