Great hiking if youre not afraid of heights and ledges. Easy to get to the top of the waterfall, but a lot of long steep climbs both up and down to get to the bottom views. Only saw one medium size waterfall. I Would not recommend bringing dogs as is it very steep and rocky. I dont think its worth it if you are visiting from out of state.
Super cool hidden waterfall on a short, easy hike!Too bad the neighbors seem so unwelcoming to visitors. No parking signs have been erected everywhere, and a woman stopped her car to tell me she hoped Id get a ticket.
A really special hidden gem that is fun for everyone. We parked up at the top and took the road back down to 95. We entered at 95 and hiked the creek up to the falls. Its a beautiful wooded hike with springs bubbling out of the sides of the ravine. The water is good for drinking. The falls are bigger than I thought and more beautiful. We climbed to the top and there are nice views from above as well. Parking is very close to the falls. After the hike we went down the road one mile and played around at the Boom Site. Its a great addition to a day down by Stillwater. The one thing that I wish I had thought of was to bring a small trash bag. Unfortunately, some people take the beauty of this place for granted and have left plastic bottles and spray painted portions of the ravine.
Its awesome if youre up for a challenge! This is not a spot to go for an easy, clean hike. The area is fascinating and breathtaking so its worth your time, but whoa! I would absolutely not recommend that you take children or pets here. The inclines are extremely steep from the start and there are ledges with sharp drop-offs. There is a rope that will help only very fit individuals or experienced rock climbers get to the base of the falls safely. If you want to get to the base without the rope, you will have to start hiking up the hill, follow the trail down until you reach the stream (youll have to cross over a piece of plywood), cross the stream, and hike upstream. Do NOT go if the ground is wet or even if it has rained within the last 48 hours. It will be extremely muddy and slippery. Even if its dry, wear really good shoes! On my trip, it hadnt rained for a few days but was still too muddy to make it to the base. The entrance is a little confusing as well...see my photos. Where the guy is standing is the trailhead (at least A trailhead...). The road that goes off to the right (in front of the no parking sign) is Orwell Ave N. You can park there until 8pm. Walk across Fairy Falls Road and youll see the path.
Very beautiful but be careful. Any child or drunk can easily slip and fall to death or major pain. Not a regulated place so very rustic and available.
Gorgeous. It was well worth hiking to the bottom. There are turnoffs near the falls that entail light bouldering, but if you go further down the trail passed the falls it turns into an easy jaunt to the river up river to the the bottom of the falls
The falls were close to the entrance easy to get to and were pretty. There was lots of graffiti all over the trees and rocks. Hiking seemed limited unless there was something I missed.
This is a hidden gem with no formal parking that I know of bit it is on Fairy Falls Rd. My kids and I went with a Stillwater local. It is not developed, per se, and the walking paths and view of the falls and river are awesome. Great hiking spot, walk the dog outing, smoking hide out, and date spot as I gathered by the array of people in my hour visit.
Once or twice a year we have come to Stillwater from an hour away to play at the Teddy Bear park, eat downtown and hike the Fairly trail. The candy store and restaurant patios were open, but the park and trail were closed. This makes NO sense. I think well find a new tradition, sadly.
Fairy Falls is an awesome place! It is sooooo well hidden and there is not alot of people here! So you are very secluded and can really enjoy the scenery. It is VERY HARD to get down to the falls and is also a little dangerous for older people and kids. But if you and your partner want a cute little place to relax and enjoy the day. You have to look no further.
Great little place. Hiking along the clear paths, so many different directions. The waterfalls itself is beautiful
5 stars!!! Its super dangerous trying to get to the bottom of the falls. Not suitable for novice hikers, children, elderly, people scared of heights, etc. The rope was cut recently so you have to find your own way down. Again, super dangerous.Super cute hiking trails and waterfalls. Deff one of Stillwaters best hidden gems. Actually its one of Minnesotas best hidden gems. I almost died getting down to the bottom to get these shots but it was worth every second! Most beautiful place ever!! Super relaxing and peaceful.
Cool park but no sign its even there and trails are not for kids. Very narrow with big cliffs. For adults its worth the trip
The national park service closed this trail. Something about covid. Go to the St Croix River valley national park service web or Facebook sites for more information.
Cute, short hike close to downtown Stillwater. There is not a trailhead sign, but if you Google map it, you will see where people are parking and the entrance to the trail is directly across the street. There are little pathways off of the main pathway to get down closer to the waterfall.
A very nice short hike to the falls!Unfortunately today they are currently dry. Still a nice overlook as we could go right to the edge where the water would go over.We followed the trails beyond the falls for about 0.5 k and there were some pretty challenging sections. They would be really tricky if wet.We never tried to get to the bottom of the gorge because we had heard it was difficult.Overall, still quite nice for a short hike with a little bit of challenge.
This place feels magical from the moment you park your vehicle. A little hole in the tree line winds down to the rushing falls below. The falls are worth the short trek down the winding path. This place is far more intimate than Minehaha falls. The only knock against this view is the colorful graffiti along the way.
Nice little area. The hike to the base of the falls should really only be done in dry conditions as it is very steep and potentially dangerous.
This park is beautiful, especially in the fall. If you are following Google Maps to the location, follow the directions until you get to Fairy Falls Road N, and then look for Orwell Road. Do not listen to it when it tells you you have arrived at your destination; there is no designated parking. You will have to park on Orwell Road and then walk across Fairy Falls Road and the trail starts right there. If you are with kids or dogs, this would be a good hike; just be aware that the short hike to the waterfall leads into other trails that are very very close to the cliffs edge. If you turn before the waterfall, the trail leads to a rope that you can use to climb down into the valley. Be careful going down if you choose to. Otherwise, you could cross the bridge over the waterfall and go the other way. This side, too, has steep drop offs but the trail goes quite a ways down. We followed this trail all the way down and then, in our rubber boots, walked along the stream until we got back to the rope. Overall a very gorgeous park.
Wear good hiking boots to best enjoy all this area has to offer. Entrance is by the yellow road sign if you park at Osgood. Bring your camera.
No parking near by, but still a good walk through the area
Almost in your bad yard its beautiful right now
I had to use ropes to climb down to the falls which I wasnt expecting but it was an awesome adventure. I wouldnt recommend going when its muddy. Also there isnt a parking lot or sign, so its not the easiest to find
Great little gem hidden in plain sight! Loved this place!!
Its rugged. Its amazing. Dont change it. Dont need fences and whatnot. Its a wild and beautiful and mostly untouched place. Fences would kill that. Know the potential danger and make your decision whether to hike it or not. Someone suggested safety measures.... Thats a bad idea. Leave it the way you found it. Rule of the forest.
Only giving 3 star because there is absolutely no parking anywhere...
Fun short hike to the bottom of the falls. May be challenging for some. Great visit after the recent rains.
Hard to find trail as mentioned, but when found it is a wonderful hidden gem. The hike to the bottom was great, about 3 miles there and back, save some energy for the hike back because it’s all up hill.
Beautiful hike started at the top of the falls then down the length of the steam and then back up to the bottom of the falls.
This place could be wonderful. The location is super charming and secluded-feeling, and the waterfall is absolutely beautiful. This place is a true gem and it’s remarkable it’s so close to the city. The reason I rate this place 2 stars instead of 5 is because it’s extremely dangerous. It’s negligent on the part of the local, county, state, or national (technically it seems to be within Federal land) government to leave this open to the public without providing safe trails. All the area surrounding the top of the waterfall is steeply banked eroded soil with occasional roots sticking out. You could easily slip or trip, and from there it’s 2 short feet to the edge in most places. This situation is a recipe for disaster, especially for kids. Additionally, the way you’re meant to get down to the bottom of the falls is by rappelling down a cliff via marine rope that some citizen tied to a sapling. It’s madness.Wait until this place is properly outfitted and maintained, and then go enjoy it.
The loop walks you down to the bottom and then back up.
Definitely off the beaten track and not for novice adventurers. You’ll have to find your own path down to where the falls go, which can be a bit tricky. Beautiful little spot though.
Beautiful, secluded dell with a tall waterfall falling over a cliff. Getting to it involves climbing down a rope or a pretty steep path. We stayed on top, but looked like there were a few people playing in the falls. Beautiful scene though - ferns everywhere. Can see why its called Fairy Falls.
Difficult hikes with kids otherwise it worth the visit, beautiful
The falls arent that big and it was difficult trying to locate how to get to the falls from the parking area. The trail isnt marked. Once youre able to locate it, its nice. Lots of hiking opportunity and being in nature is great
Small waterfall, but it’s still very beautiful. Not a good place to go if you are scared of heights.Pro-tip: Park on Orwell ave. when you go there, the parking is free and the sign posted says you can be there until 8:00pm!
Not exactly easy to find unless you have google, but well worth it. A very short walk to get to the falls, but take the trail and walk right back through the woods to enjoy the experience fully.
Beautiful place thats a literal hole in the wall (wall of trees), great hiking paths that are pretty difficult but the payoff is well worth it, especially when you make it to the bottom.
It’s really HARD to FIND.. you will have to park on the road. The fall is cool, but walking to it there was graffiti saying ( you will die, turn around. Etc ) seemed creepy to me.
Simply gorgeous. A quick 20 minute hike by trails or a good hour long hike off trails. Definitely worth a visit.
My family of 4, including my sons who are 4 and 5, had a blast hiking to the base of the falls. We are avid hikers, but even if we werent, this hike is totally doable if you are fit, able to maneuver some short areas of steep terrain, and have good shoes. If little kids are along, hold their hands in the steeper areas. Kids 8+ should have no problem on the trail. Of course this is as long as conditions are ideal and trails arent washed out. I would also use extreme caution in winter or not attempt. To get to the base of the falls, after you cross the bridge which is .2 miles from the road, follow the trail that goes up and to the right. Continue for a half mile. There is a makeshift board to cross the stream, then you walk along the stream back toward the falls. Its muddy in some spots and there are lots of downed trees to climb over. If you bring watershoes you could probably just walk up the steam. Its very shallow. At the falls, you can walk under them, splash around, or just take in the scenery. There was a rope to climb back up but we didnt trust it and instead hiked back the way we came. We were here for 2 hours, but the hike is only 1.5 miles RT if you take our route. This was a fun adventure and as an added bonus we had the falls to ourselves!
Very pretty hike, and the falls are gorgeous from the top and the bottom. There are some little trails people have made that follow different paths so I would caution people to stick to the main trail unless you want some rock climbing. Otherwise we loved it!
Wonderful hiking area, love the waterfall. Great for a casual stroll, with some more challenging stuff for those that are looking for a bit more excitement.Wear shoes that have some good grip, as theres some pretty sheer routes with very loose dirt/gravel.The entrance is a bit hidden, as it isnt marked. A small Enter Here sign would do a lot of good.
DANGER! CLOSED! This is not a public park (PRIVATE PROPERTY), Posted No Trespassing. There are no posted signs (except Closed Sign) to find it. No parking lot. Steep trails are unsafe with drops of over three stories. No steps or railing. Not safe for pets or children.
Beautiful area just outside of Stillwater. The path is a bit difficult to find but once you see it it is a short walk to the waterfall. The trail takes you to the top of the falls, and you can take another one to the bottom. Beware as you are climbing down the paths are very sketchy. The dirt is slippery, and you even need to sort of rock climb in an area to get down. But the view is totally worth it in the end.
Fun place to go! A little bit if a workout on the hill going back up but worth it!
While the falls were really pretty, in order to get to the base of the falls you need to know about the trail to the right just before you cross the bridge. That trail takes you to a drop off with a rope to scale down to the base. Walking or hiking shoes are a must! If you want to see the top of the falls go across the bridge and up to the trail where you will find a small lookout point. The trailhead is unmarked, but if you turn off Fairy Fall Rd onto Orwell to park, youll see if between 2 traffic posts. I wasnt wearing the right shoes so I didnt attempt the rope. What I could see was really pretty, but be prepared for this spot if you decide to try it out!
Fairy Falls is very cool. Just a short walk to the top of the falls. If you want to get to the bottom of the falls..... well that’s a lil more challenging.
It was the perfect hike for a family and the waterfall was quite pretty. I wish there wasnt any graffiti. However, it is not overwhelming nor does it take away from the beauty of the hike.
No paths to the water fall... basically on a hike
Very hilly with sliding rocks
Beautiful! Go in the spring before the bugs get bad. The trails arent marked in any way so it took a bit of exploring to find the place, but that was part of the adventure. Wear good shoes, as the trails are very steep and a little precarious. I would be a little leery of bringing very young children or dogs, as there are no guardrails or stairs. Bring a camera--youll want pictures of the dramatic ravine walls!
This place is unique been to alot of places for hiking and walking when I first got on the trail there are people coming up with swimsuits there either under the falls or in the streamsBeing wet as they were. So if you want to check out the waterfall or a hiking trail this is the place. You can find parking on one of the side streets you can park until 8 or 9 PM
Great place to take a short hike.
Wear good shoes, and dress appropriately. In order to get to the base of the waterfall, you need to climb down a rope. Overall I had a lot of fun! Will visit again.
Nice area, fairly busy on a nice day
Found this place on Google went to go visit it and even though it was all frozen up it was still very cool can hardly wait to go back in the summertime to see what it looks like
Great falls that are not too hard to get to. The trail is not too steep and decently easy to hike. My only complaint is that the entrance is not marked. There is street parking and then you have to cross a large road to reach a small clearing in the trees that becomes a trail. Beautiful falls that you can walk right under
I love the access to the falls afforded on this trail. There is a bit of an erosion problem along some parts of the trail, but its still an enjoyable hike.
First off, a few words of caution. This is not a safe place for children or pets. The trails around the falls are beautiful but there are many steep areas, narrow paths next to sheer drop offs and the drop offs are roughly 3 stories high with no guard rails. A slip could be life threatening. There is a bridge above the falls from one side of the falls to the other. No guard rails there either. We did not follow the trails on either side but asked some young people there how to get down to the base of the falls. They told us there was a rope that someone tied to a tree. One of them said they had used it once to get down the sheet of the cliff to the bottom but she mostly didnt trust it and hadnt used it again. But that is how some young people get down. As an adult observing this scene, I would not advise it. Other Google guides have said there is another way involving a 3 mile hike. We did not have time to explore that route so I cannot report on it.However, it is still very beautiful. I can see why people like to go there. I would go again to check out the safer three mile hike to the base.
What a cool place! Deffinetly not a place for kids as the paths are super steep but the falls were worth the hike.
Its so magical. Please dont litter.
Fun and quick hike with a fair amount of difficulty and great payoff with the waterfall at the end.
Not an easy or accessible hike, but its a nice hour or two adventure!
Find the intersection and go! Your curiosity will lead the way inside to the falls.
Perfect place to walk around and enjoy the environment
Channel your inner Laura Croft when you climb the rock wall here, the falls are so beautiful!
Muddy in the spring as expected byt beautiful trail
This is a really beautiful little area to go hiking in. Finding the trail itself is difficult, theres a sign for the entrance hidden in the woods at the T-intersection of the two roads. The trails are steep and definitely a little on the sketchy side. To get down right next to the falls, you have to climb down a small rock face with a rope that is hanging there. It seemed unsafe at first but it turned out to be a pretty stable way of getting down themselves. The falls themselves are small, but really pretty and in a beautiful area.
Great hike! Excellent views!
An amazing Park full of unique scenery. Never enjoyed a nature park as much as this one.
The waterfall is beautiful. Be careful because thier isnt any wall barriers so i wouldnt recommend to go with children unless you hold on tight to them. Parking is bit of a hassle.
Fairy Falls is CLOSED for the 2020 season.
Beautiful falls, lots of greenery. Trails are pretty difficult, not a good idea for young kids. Lots of trails to explore of both sides of the falls.
This was a fun hike. Not very strenuous as it was very short but there is a small cliff you need to scale to get to the bottom. Thankfully, someone has set ropes making it easy to get up and down.
What is this place like this time of year? Thinking about going this weekend and looking for input or advice. Are the falls still flowing year round or does it freeze up?
Was more than an easy hike, but well worth it.
Very peaceful and quaint. Like another world, and the scenery changes so much.
Beautiful place, but isnt a very large fallDifficult to get down to unless youre younger & can go down & up a rope
A nice little gem. Hiking trails are difficult. Not recommended for small children or elderly.
Although we were on Fairy Falls Road, there was absolutely no sign indicating that we had arrived at the path to the falls. Fortunately there were a couple cars parked along a side street, so that gave us a hint. We parked and we did find the path, but it was somewhat hidden by the thick foliage. The dirt path down to the top of the falls was a bit steep but easily navigable, even with a toddler & a small dog. There was a small wooden bridge over the stream a few feet from the falls, and paths along both sides. We ventured a ways up the first path and, through the trees, we did see some people down under the falls, but we didnt want to continue further - THIS time. Now that we know what to expect, we are looking forward to coming back again.
Very cool, but it is kind of hard to access but that gives it a more authentic feel
Nice hike, pretty waterfall
This place is so beautiful, the trails here are so fun.
Short beautiful hike!
A wonderful hike! Be careful though trying to find your way to the bottom of the falls! It is treacherous if you dont watch it. Best recommendation: cross the bridge at the top and continue for roughly 500 paces to the right and along the top of the ridge. Its quite a ways, but trust me: worth it. The trail finally opens to an open area of gravel and shade as you begin to decend toward the highway. Just at a very large Maple on your right as you begin the gradual decent down, there is a trail which heads BACK toward the falls, but works along the bottom of the cliff, until you will come to the bottom of the falls. Very cool. I just wish boneheads would stop spraying paint and leaving their trash everywhere.
Lower trails are more difficult than the lower ones! Lots of fun
Closed.
Cool place for teens to hang out
Absolutely beautiful out there! the waterfall
Worth seeing! Rough trail with loose footing.
This was an amazing place to go hiking. The trails are moderate and sometimes really steep, but over all a great place to go. There isnt any official parking, but we found it easy enough to park on the side of the road across from the trail head. There is one trail that is a large loop around the area. There are also many little trails that spurt off the large loop. I would encourage you to have a walking stick because some of the spots are tricky. Especially if it is snowing or muddy.
When we went, a gentlman was proposing to his girlfriend, so it must be good, right? (I think she said yes)
