Beautiful, well maintained castle offering historical and ghost tours as well as an escape room. Purchase tickets online (quick and easy) to ensure your spot is reserved. Each experience is unique, touring different areas of the castle. Rich in history and fun to do with the whole family. Staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
I was a bit skeptical of this place when we first arrived. I had not seen the episode that the Ghost adventures crew had done, or any other outside source. I went in with no prior knowledge of the history of the castle or the people that inhabited it.The tour guide Sat us down in a large room and we watched a very short video on some of the history of the home.We then linked up with our official tour guide that lead us through the castle and all of the areas. He told us of German and Italian soldiers that has been at the home for different reasons, and even showed us the chamber that was used to torture some of the prisoners. After we broke out the equipment and the tour guide was gone we started getting activity almost immediately! We have several of the same devices that are used by professional ghost hunters including the device that sweeps through radio stations at a high rate too allow spirits to communicate. At first it was simple words pine yes, no, and names. Then as we went through other rooms the voices changes and began speaking German in full sentences. The spirits were able to turn on and off lights that we had brought on command. I would say that if you have three right equipment or just someone that is easily scared, then this is the place.
Beautiful castle full of so many stories and historical events. The ghost tour was awesome and the tour guide did a wonderful job! Already plan on coming back.
To say the were a horrible wedding venue is an understatement.Friday night was our rehearsal (6-7pm) and we were traveling from out of town as well as our wedding party coming from different states. Our rehearsal was at 6pm of course some people started showing up about 10/15 minutes early and Tamera came out telling us we needed to hurry up and get this over with because they scheduled another event for that night. She then yelled at our minister and my part of my wedding party because they were a few minutes late due to being stuck behind a car accident.Saturday was our wedding we had the place from noon to midnight. When we got there to start setting up Tamera would go behind me, THE BRIDE, and change my table set up and decorations. She tried to refuse to give all my tables chairs because she “knows statistics” and “it will be embarrassing on the bride to have empty chairs.” I told her “it would be more embarrassing having to carry in chairs for my guest. I would rather have too many than not enough.” After what felt like yanking teeth to get her to give me chairs she finally gave them to me. She knew we had about 180 RSVP and we planned on 130 being there and she tried to only give us 45/50 chairs we ended up using all 130 chairs. So you tell me what would have been more embarrassing. She also told me I needed to have our photo booth in the buffet room. Who takes wedding pictures with food?During the reception they started cleaning my stuff up, it was only about 8:30/9 and again WE PAID TO HAVE THIS PLACE TIL MIDNIGHT. So our guest started leaving because they thought our wedding was over. Everyone was gone by 9:30pm. So we started taking down our decor. We had got everything outside waiting to be loaded into cars and they closed and locked us out before 11pm.Tamera caused so many issues with us all weekend and gave myself and my husband so much unneeded stress the day of our wedding. I would NEVER recommend using them as a venue for something that is suppose to be so special to you. Because they don’t care.
This spooky experience was so fun! Went with my grandma and bff. It was very scary and entertaining. Definitely recommend to do it at night.
It is a very interesting place. The outside is very photo worthy. Some good history on the tour.
Best birthday present ever. Loved the tour and highly recommend this to anyone who loves history mixed with ghostly stories.
When we called the day before we were told we could drive up with out a apt. And the next day we pulled up to a chain over the street so we called to see if there was a reason we could not tour the lady explained that you had to reserve the hour before during the off season so we went on our way to see the battle field instead little disappointed..To make matters worse the same lady called back and stated she was going to report us for vandalism of the parking lot which we would never do and honestly shocked that she would excuse us just because we had called to see how to tour and clear up a misunderstanding.Just Wow I will never be back and shame on her for making us feel like we did something wrong for wanting to see a piece of history.
So worth the time. Great for history buffs. Tour guide was very entertaining. The Halloween decor was fun.
Took the ghost tour. Had such a good time. Beautiful building. Highly recommend
Super spooky and fun. Was able to capture some pictures with what our tour guide referred to as a paranormal orb.
Owner was the rudest person Ive ever encountered. A wedding day is supposed to be all about the Bride and Groom and all afternoon she went behind us moving or rearranging everything we had set up. When you pay over $3000 for a venue for your big day you want it to be perfect not to be arguing with some witch all afternoon.
We walk outside the castle it was closed but it was so cool to see it I wished we could of see the inside it was in the fall and it was so beautiful.
Great tour and lots of history. With a nicer gift shop, Id have given a 5.
Educational, and overall great experience, lots of stairs, and if you like escape rooms they have a 15 min short one to accomplish
We bought tickets online for a ghost tour. The website offers two prices- one for mask wearing guests, and a higher price for non-mask wearing guests. We decided to pay a little extra for the non- mask wearing tickets. Upon arrival, this woman greeting cars as they entered told us that we now had to wear masks. We told her we are do a refund for the extra cost of our tickets. We told her we had no masks (being that we specifically paid not to have to wear them) and she told us IF they did have masks for us we would not be refunded the extra amount we paid. Our problem was not with the request to wear a mask- but the false advertising telling us to pay extra for something we werent going to get anyways. On top of all that- and more importantly- this woman was so rude! She claimed to be the manager and the owner of the castle and refused to let us talk to anyone else. Ive grown up in Springfield and been to the Pythian Castle several times- I can tell you personally its alright- but not worth paying over $70 for 4 of us to be treated that way. So so SO rude! I Would not recommend going if you dont like being treated horribly for expecting what you paid for. As several other reviews have mentioned- the only thing this location is haunted by is a rude, condescending, and unprofessional older woman.
Such an awesome place! We experience something different everytime we visit.
We had a great time during the ghost tour. Also loved hearing the history of the place. Even got a picture of apparitions face.
Wonderful experience. We truly enjoyed ourselves. Very knowledgeable about the history and the spirits are very active. Thank you.
Beautiful and very interesting! Escape room was fun! Definitely will come back for a ghost tour! Cindy was a very friendly guide!
We did a midnight ghost hunt and it was really fun! Give them a call and check it out.
The venue might be beautiful but the owners are atrocious and ruined the bride and grooms full experience of their big day. Owner scheduled other events during their rehearsal, moved decorations to where SHE would like them, was rude to guests AND the bride and groom, they even started shutting down the venue around 9:00 when it was rented until MIDNIGHT. If I could give 0 stars I would.
The history of this castle is really cool! Also, the tour guide has had some ghostly experiences and shared her stories as well as some audio that had been recorded. It was neat!
Great tour. Wonderful owner. Lots of history and interesting info. Id love to come back!
There werent any signs saying who could go where. During the wedding ceremony theivtopjpnr kept crackling off and on
My daughters wedding was held there. The staff was so rude and would go behind us moving the decorations after we had set them. For a day that was suppose to be full of joy they made it very stressful.
Very interesting. We enjoyed the tour.
Its pretty chill the host was probably the best part but over all I think it was educational and fun so
The owner is the most rude person Ive ever encountered. She tried to ruin the wedding that was hosted there and continuously kept trying to change the arrangements made with the tables. Double charged the bride multiple times for little things like table clothes. I do not recommend this place at all. Ive never in my life been so appalled by someones actions.
Very interesting 100 year old building. Well preserved. Service was great and the food was excellent.
The ghost tour with Todd was really fun
Disappointed. Could not get ahold of a person to get information about a tour. It was like the place was shut down.
It was a beautiful castle. But I went for a legit ghost tour and the castle was rigged with lots of electronic things for Halloween, so I was rather disappointed with the ghost tour aspect.
Very unpleasant and stressful atmosphere on daughters wedding day and rehersal. Tamara isnot a wedding planner and should not be acting as she is.Almost ruiend the entire experience for my daughter and son in law.
Amazing service they give a brief video of what all has happened and show you pictures of what people has sighted.
Not a ghost tour so much as a poorly run tour of an old place with a bunch of cheesy Halloween decor. We didnt even stay for the whole your.
I took the ghost tour and I loved it.I heard a lot of noises and some of my pictures have figures and mists in them.Plus you get to learn more about the history and ghosts there.
The family and I took the history tour we thought it was extremely interesting and a very interesting subject matter. We very much enjoyed learning about the pythians their Castle and the history around it. The owner and tour guide was knowledgeable and for the most part very friendly. However at one time while I was taking a picture in the basement she actually turn the light off in the room while I was taking the picture and said we usually dont allow too many photos in this tour. Huh? What is too many photos?
Met at the gate to check in for our ghost tour by a rude little old woman and told rules were different than stated on website. When we stated we selected the higher priced option because it was available she tried to say the website was too hard to keep up with or something of that nature. Ended up requesting refund and will not return until new owners .
I loved this tour! This was part of my birthday present. It started out with something opening the door to the room we were in getting a bit of a history lesson. I caught a few moving orbs and a video with some banging in the background. Never done anything like this before and this was a good first experience. Thank you owners of Pythian Castle for sharing.
We did the ghost tour around Halloween with a large group of over 20 people. We had a blast! I would love to go again outside of spooky season as well to get a more authentic feel.
Neat place, but left a little to be desired. I thought when it said this was a restored castle it would have been full of antique furniture etc. That was not the case. We went on the ghost tour and I found the evidence to be really lacking too. This tour is definitely not for anyone who cant do stairs. I read some other reviews saying you could see the downstairs if not able to go upstairs, but the tour didnt really go through much of the downstairs. Id skip it if you have anyone elderly with you who cant do stairs or walk long distances. The rooms they showed us seemed even less haunted by the remnants of other things the castle tried to be. There were leftover exhibits like a medieval kitchen scene in the basement, giant rock monster, giant toy blocks that just really made it hokey and seem not cared about and leftover from some other gimmick they once tried.Video really needs to be redone in the beginning and the tour guides really need to be microphoned. It was very hard to hear anything being said.We did like doing blackouts and going in the service tunnel. That was the scariest part!
It was very scripted and our tour guide was horrible, he could keep me entertained and sounded like he was reading from a script and no creative talking, ended up leaving early and would not go back
Pretty Cool.. We did the Safe Room, will have to go back for a tour!!!
This place was awesome my family and I had the best time
Wonderful paranormal experience!
The tour was insightful and fun with a great tour guide. Give this place a visit! A lot of great history in here.
I loved the night ghost tour. Me and my daughters had a blast. And even got a lot of recordings that were scary. This a the place to go
My emotions got the best of me but all around it was good
Nice place to take a tour. Souvenirs and all. Great staff
It was the best time ever!!! Todd is an awesome guide!! We will definitely go back!!
It was ok we had fun to find out who did it
BEST GHOST TOURS IN TOWN! I highly suggest them as you learn a lot of the history of the building as well as getting to see some pretty neat parts.
Love the experience. Rice was very awesome.
Escape room was very challenging and the guide was very helpful without giving away answers. This was our first escape room challenge and definitely worth it. Will come back to do ghost tour and dinner next time. Loved it! A lot of history here.
It has a lot of history. I was expecting more of a Midevil castle with cannons and such. There are a ton of rooms with weird concepts. The tour could be done in a 10 minute synopsis.
We did both the history and the ghost tour in the same day. Both tours were great, but I will have to say the ghost tour was my grandsons favorite. He was hoping to see a few more orbs but he did capture the tail end of one on his cell camera and he got tapped on the shoulder in the dungeon. I think overall he had a great experience. Our tour guide and the owner were both amazing. I had conversations with both about the castle and they were both professional, polite, and informative.
Dinner and show were great! Very entertaining
This was a super fun tour. Our guide was a delight. We took the history tour. There was a small group and it was perfect. Lots of neat stories and the castle is really wonderful and different. I would love to go on a ghost tour, perhaps next time.
Stressful atmosphere unpleasant owner/caretaker
Nice tour, interesting and informative

Very interesting tour, I wish we could have stayed all night. Perhaps we could have toured more of the castle and possibly the outside as well.
Absolutely loved the Ghost Tour. Todd was an amazing tour guide. Would definitely come back.

Great murder mystery dinner. Would definitely go again.
Went to the mystery murder Dinner. Well done and food was ok. Worth the money.
The overall castle was okay, but it wasnt very interesting and exciting.
The lady in the red PT Cruiser is more of a scare than the ghosts! So Im from out of town, being here for a few months I have been making plans to arrange an outing at least once a week. I had heard about the castle but was unsure of what it was or offered. I went with my brother in law one sunday to check it out. We walked around the castle all the while staying on the street. Some lady a red PT Cruiser flew out of the drive and started yelling at us about trespassing. We tried to ask questions but she was apparently there to guard the building from our eyes not inform the public. As we started to leave she performed a u turn at quite an unsafe speed in the front parking lot, there were at least 2 small children either on the porch or close by, and quickly returned to her designated parking location. Im still unsure what this place is but honestly kinda lost my interest in finding out. Several people have since expressed this is not an isolated incident.
Absolutely beautiful. It is where the kids had prom at. So many places to take beautiful pictures. And the inside of it was just awesome.
Most fun Ive had in a while. Paranormal ghost tour was awesome
Very interesting to visit. Great history here!
Post hours somewhere! Were here for a very short visit and wanted to go take some photos and we were just yelled at by a lady on the porch of the castle for approaching to take some photos. Good luck to other visitors. Maybe with hours listed youd have to yell less.
My granddaughter had her wedding there on August 15th the lady was so rude to everyone she was moving decorations around and taking tables away after things were all set up just the way they were supposed to be the lady was very hateful and rude to everyone I would never recommend this place
I went there one time and I loved it it was great very very architectural
Everyone leaving horrible reviews took this too seriously. I feel like the owners do a good job with the hand they have been dealt. Its not accurate in terms of how it has been preserved or even in term of being called a castle, but they review all that. It is a historical site and they tell you what they know.History Tour: simple, fun, informative, sometimes campy/silly. Its good if you want hands on history because nothing is off limits. We had a few laughs, enjoyed the provided history, enjoyed the informative video at the beginning, enjoyed the tour guide, and had a nice conversation after the tour was over.
It was the first time I had ever been to anything like that. It was interesting, I loved the pictures about the Castles history. It was a wonderful experience.
Width they had t shirts or sweatshirts for sale. We go on several ghost tours and always get a shirt. We love in a tiny home and we dont have room for nicnacs so we but t shirts. We have no momentos other than pictures we took.
Great staff definitely check out the ghost tours
Absolute waste of money! Saw a man and woman hanging back blowing bubbles on the tour to fake orbs in pictures, 4 to 6 more people were loud and obnoxious the whole tour so none of our group could even hear the tour guide. Id recommend going somewhere else.
Love the castle and it history. So cool to hear about what it what used for my tour guide was nice and informed.
The owner is so incredibly rude. Not worth the chance of encountering her.
Super fun with lots of history. Loved the escape room too!
This was an awesome tour. The guides were very knowledgeable and energetic about the tour. This is definitely a must see if you are in Springfield!
Parked at the business next store because my girlfriend wanted a picture of the out side we were roughly 40 yards from the castle when a lady came running out screaming about trespassing and how if we wanted just ONE picture just one that we would have to pay more than the tour would be I know it says the place is haunted but the only thing that seems to haunt this estate is an extremely rude and unprofessional woman with a horrendous haircut. For all you ghost hunters out there and for all you families out there I’m sure that there are better spots with way better staff so please don’t waste your money or simply just take a picture from the recreation center right next to it
We booked a history tour and the clue keeper game. It was a blast! Id recommend 1 clue keeper purchase for every 2 people. We accidentally purchased one per person for our 4 party group, and they refunded 3 of them, which was great, and very thoughtful, but when the group splits into boys and girls it would have been helpful for two people to be playing along with the clues. Id definitely recommend purchasing the clue keeper along with the history tour, as it makes you listen more closely! The owners/tour guides were super informative, pleasant and great storytellers! I wish we had more time to do a haunted tour or a murder mystery dinner, but we have family in Springfield, so we will be back! Awesome history lesson about the Pythians!
I had my senior prom at the Pythian Castle and it was so much fun, gorgeous, and all around exciting! We also had laser tag in the back yard. It’s a great spot for a prom!
A very majestic, historic and haunted location that has various tours and events to fully enjoy!
It was a very cool old castle with a great history . U also get to see old P.O.W cells
Haunted as can be. The place is beautiful and it is a must see if you are in the area.
We took the Ghost Tour, and it did not disapoint!
