I found this place by accident, I was riding my bike on a Greenway trail that passes by it and Im glad I found it because its tucked away in some hidden corner. I dont know how it is on the big dog side but on the small dog side its always a good time for my two pups they always have fun meeting new dogs and the people there are nice to chat with while the dogs are doing their thing.

My mom and I go here every weekend with our dogs Romeo and Mia. Its absolutely amazing, super spacious, and there are always lots of other friendly dogs for our pups to play with! Theres a side for small dogs and a side for big dogs which is nice so no one gets hurt. I absolutely love this place! Tip: you do need a key to get in but its only $10 a year!

People are always friendly, and its nice having the two sides for big & small dogs. Sometimes the parking lot fills up on really nice days, but thats never been an issue. Old water fountains are being replaced soon, which is great. Took me a minute to figure out the gate system first time, and its a bit of an inconvenience that you have to go to Chesterfield Family Center to get your fob. However, I appreciate a system that checks for vaccination records and tries to prevent non-paying people from using the park. Yes, it would be lovely if free, but then theres no way to ensure all dogs are updated on their shots, and maintenance would suffer.

Its a large park but could be much nicer for something you have to pay to access. The ground is very hilly with lots of divots so it wasnt super safe for my greyhound to run quickly on. It could also stand to have a water spout to easily refill water bowls for the dogs. The single water fountain comes out hot and the one on ground level wasnt working.

Great place to take your dog! There are separate sections of the park, depending on your dogs size. Typically other dogs and their owners will be there to play. Weve experienced very few issues with other dogs, and their owners are very quick to respond to issues. The small membership fee is worth the year worth of fun memories youll make with your furry best friend.

My dog loves it here. Theres a large space for him to run, and the park is divided between large and small dogs with the height designations clearly marked. On the negative side, the large dog side floods quickly, and its right at the entrance. Your dog will get muddy if it has rained at all. There are a few problem dogs (or maybe problem owners). My dog has been attacked once; but in this case, the owner of the other dog acted quickly. Ive witnessed other peoples dogs get attacked, and the other owner did nothing. You can report incidents to the park board. Otherwise, its a beautiful, well kept place.

Went to get a pass today with my two friends so we could all bring our dogs together. I was turned away because my dog is pit-bull. This is the most f*cked up thing I have ever heard. My dogs who loves to play with all other dogs and always goes to Camp Bow Wow isn’t allowed to play and have fun simply because she’s a pit. But yet small, mean little dogs are allowed to go. My little Olive is so upset. Do NOT recommend this place bc they discriminate. Look how precious my sweet girl is.

This is a great place to go and let your dogs roam off leash. They have a big dog and a small dog side which is nice for my little guy (as big dogs can be overwhelming for him). You do have to get an annual membership for $25 but it is well worth it. The people and the dogs are great and everyone gets along. There are times of the day with more dogs and times with just a few so find a time that works for your schedule and your dogs comfort zone. You will need to go to grand to get to the entrance (even though the address is on catalpa).

While I was riding my bicycle, I was delayed at different place and I needed a place to pull over for a scheduled conference prayer call. The Dog Park is so comfortable for dogs and their humans that having the bicycle/walking/jogging trail next to it does not bother me or them whenever I go through on shoes or pedeling. I was able to pull over, have my call, and be on my way with no problem. That was just a one-time event, though, and I will just enjoy jogging or riding by in the future while the pets and owners keep enjoying their time.

I bring my dog at least 3 times a week. Its wonderful to be able to let her off leash and although she was timid when she first started going she is just one of the dogs now! Went to the dog park (as I have been to many others). Found out when I got here that there is a $25 fee, or a $10 day pass (neither of which I can get today, on the weekend). Im just passing through town, so not worth it for me to pay for a year membership. This is the first dog park Ive been to that a visitor driving through is unable to make use of... way to go, Springfield - youre the least dog-friendly town Ive been to.

Review №44

I like the location, the people are mostly friendly, and that the fences are secure. Those are really the only good things about this park. The entrance fee and paperwork required to get a fob are ridiculous, and the park has nothing special to warrant the fee. I have two younger dogs, and they also go to a barn, but we go to the park on my days off. The small dog section is big enough for five or six dogs to play independently, but forget it if the park is busy and your dog likes his own space. The big dog section is a little better, but again, its mostly just a safe fence for them to play. Now, if there were fountains in the summer, or obstacles to make the park more fun for the dogs, I could accept the entrance fee. But the only amenities are the dog bowls that members have left in the park and the water spout to fill them. Most members are friendly, but Ive also seen people shouting at others that a dog is being too aggressive, when it was a younger puppy trying to play. Most people are laid back dog owners.. but there are also a decent amount of high maintenence people who feel entitled enough to kick dogs out of the park, because they paid an entrance fee. If I was you, I would go to other places (James River access points, Valley Water Mill Park, the botanical gardens) where, if its quiet, you can let the dogs off leash and they have more room to play and you dont have to pay.

Love this place! All dogs over 4 months with vaccinations are welcome. Just register with the parks dept. for a key FOB and ID tag for your pup(s). (I didnt know this in advance and just showed up!) Side for small & large dogs, fenced and plenty of room to roam. During warm weather months they have running water on site as well. Several places for bipedals (humans) to sit and poop stations dispersed around the property (with bags). Your pup will thank you for the chance to roam & socialize! Warm evenings & weekends youll see lots of pups running around!

Sorry, but dog parks should be free. Ive begrudgingly dished out the one day pass ($10) to see if it was worth the annual membership, and I found the other park-goers to be as closed off as the members only gate. I was throwing a tennis ball around for my dog, but was asked to stop when someone elses dog was also chasing my ball. Never been to a dog park where dogs are discouraged from playing with each-other.

I agree with Amy Nelson. Some folks constantly hover over their dog and pull others away. They need to educate themselves, learn the signs and understand that play-fight, nipping and wrestling between dogs is very much ok and healthy. For many dogs, play fighting is the primary method used to negotiate new relationships and develop lasting friendships. Although play is fun, it also offers serious opportunities to communicate with another dog. In this sense, play is a kind of language. Thus, when we regularly break up what we consider “inappropriate” play, are we doing our dogs a service, or confusing them by constantly butting into their private conversations?

The park itself is lovely. But please be warned: just because someone has an aggressive dog, doesnt mean they will use their head and NOT bring them to the park.
