Do not try to drive to this location. You can only access this via the Spring Creek Greenway. Park at Pundt park and hike, bike, or horseback ride a little over a mile to here or park at Carter park for around a 3 mile distance. Stahl Preserve has a nice little pond with lots of cypress trees in it. Fishing is catch and release. If youre lucky you may see a beaver or river otter. Plenty of benches and trash cans. Halfway between Carter and Pundt park is a water cooler to refill your water bottles. Hiked an 11 mile loop from Carter park to Pundt park. The 2 extra miles was exploring trails off of the Greenway trail. Was exciting to see a Piliated Woodpecker, Mother racoon with 4 babies, Green Heron, soft-shell turtle, rabbit, and many more birds, butterflies, and dragonflies. The hike took a total of 5 hours and 15 minutes with 4 hours of actual hike time. It was dusk during the last 2 miles and I heard a hog squealing. Then about a mile later heard a lot of hogs at the edge of the treeline. Precinct 4 officers take periodic strolls through the trail to make sure everyone is fine. They will offer a ride or assistance if need be. Id advise not going on a Saturday. You hear gun shots from the nearby shooting range nearly the whole way. Last weekend I hiked the section from Carter to Jesse Jones park and didnt hear any gun fire.
