This is an amazing park with a beautiful campground. the bathrooms are clean and newly renovated. the only reason I give it 4 stars is the sites are on the small side and not really very level. But we are van campers so small sites dont bother us. But If you have anything above 30 ft It will likely be hard to find a site.
Awesome family gathering place, great horse show and nice campgrounds. A lady named Dee that worked there was so nice and helpful. She was apparently key to the sucess of the park. Great place
Very nice park and so much to do. We are so fortunate to have this in the upstate. Croft has many miles of mountain bike trails from the beginner all the way to advance along with equestrian trails and a riding arena and stables. They also have the beautiful Lake Craig where john boats and kayaks can be rented as well as a very nice campground with bathhouse. Park has various wildlife and is always kept very clean. I invite everyone to come give it a visit.
Southside trail is awesome. Be aware that the bridge is out from the State Park side so access to the trail is best from the trailhead and you can avoid the entrance fee.
Park was nice, clean and lots of hiking trails. Swimming not allowed in lake. Creek was refreshing. No luck fishing. Bugs not horrible. Bathrooms were clean. Host were helpful and very friendly. Sadly, the female park Ranger was not very friendly. Not sure we will be coming back to this park, with so many others out there, Id rather spend my money at a place I feel 100% welcome.
Really beautiful park. It is pretty big. You go through the entrance, and after a 5 minute drive through a pretty forest, you arrive at the booth. It is $3 per person, and they only accept cash. So beware. Lake Cunningham is very pretty, and you can even rent a john boat for $10 (you must be over 18 to rent one, and it also has no motor. you have to use the provided orrs.)I fished at Cunningham for Bass, and bluegill. On the day we went, there were hundreds on Bluegill visible from the shore. Nevertheless it was hard to get them to bite. I also saw some bass, but we couldn’t get any fish at all to bite. I think it was just a bad day though.Overall 10/10 I would come back again and give the fishing another shot since I saw so many fish.
The camp host was great. Really nice place to camp. Would love to come back and spend a week here..
Had a picnic lunch gathering for 25 or so people. We were able to reserve Shelter 1 which was the perfect size. Bathrooms nearby and easy parking. There is a fireplace and plenty of picnic tables. We will definitely use this again. Check out the lake and all of the walking trails! On a aide note, Croft is a great place to ride bikes and much safer than riding on public roads.
Absolutely beautiful. We took a kayak and paddle board all the way around the lake and had a great time!
Surprisingly uncrowded for a Saturday morning. Trails were good but they need better markings and the maps werent much help. Will probably go again.
Nice hiking, camping and two lakes for quiet boating and fishing. Reasonable entrance and camping fees. Nice and quiet. Been enjoying this park for decades.
Park campgrounds are small and I wouldn’t want to be any bigger than our 40ft but we fit nicely on site 46. Would a few other sites that would fit and provide lake view from our party deck. Lake was nice. WiFi was pretty bad the first couple days but apparently there were nationwide issues. Monday/Tuesday we had to go to town to work. Wednesday-Friday we were ok at site.....download good...upload still a bit slow.
Trails were great. Easy ride for the horses. Parking was super easy to get in and out.
It was quiet and I met one couple on my hike. $1.50 for seniors to enter. Ill be back.
This Park was really nice,we had a picnic on a bench sitting at lake Craig enjoying the lake while having a glass of wine.we watch people. Fishing off a pier.would like to go back sometime again.
Gorgeous and so fun! Lots to do. Water to play in for the kiddos. Forest to explore amazing.
I was only there for a couple of hours. I hiked the nature trail it was a wonderful hike! Very enjoyable!
Lots of sights and sounds to enjoy. The trails are great!
Sometimes it may be a bit over crowded so we cant stay but, lots of times it seems just right for me and my son who has severe spectrum autism. Its quiet, shady, and full of natures beauty! They have picnic tables in many different areas, camping grounds, horse trails as well as horse ring, sheltered tables with lights and cookers, and of course, a lake! You can have a great time all day long for just one small admission fee. I think it averages 2.00 per adult.
Just visited for the first time. Great park! Cant wait to come again. We happened to be there when an equestrian association was there, so that was fun to watch, too. The bridge on the Palmetto Trail was cool, too.
Went for baseball tryouts. Nice fields
Very large park with equestrian facilities. The park regularly hosts shows in its arena and has more than 20 miles of equestrian, biking and hiking trails. 2 lakes (large ponds) to fish. The smaller lake (Lake Johnson) is located on the other side of the park and maintained by DNR. Kayak and boat rentals on lake Craig. Lots of fishing spots with benches and swings. Both lakes have boat ramps. Clean bathroom next to playground. 2 Campgrounds, one beside lake and one not. Lakeside sites are on a high incline and both sites are really tight with sites next to each other. Great park to enjoy horses and nature.
Nice and quiet place has excellent fishing at times others are a bust plenty of walking and riding trails for horses and bikes boat rental camping and lots of different wildlife.
Foster Mill loop was really cool, but keep in mind that it is a horse trail... You will meet horses, their poop, and possibly a ton of muddy trails. You can hop on the Lake Craig connector trail after the lake (instead of going up the road) and you will exit in the horse field that you pass on the way to the trailhead. The nature trail was amazing by the river. Campground is nice and we enjoyed our extended weekend there!
Good for people who like to hike. Some areas a little rugged. Some Trails closed
A wonderful place to visit for lunch.
Very friendly rangers. Fishing off pier was good. Nice camp sites. Fire rings were good. Our picnic table was a little wobbly and old. Not many more seasons for it. Its a quiet friendly place to camp. Lots and lots of trees. The only disappointment was that there is not a museum dedicated to the memory of Camp Wadsworth or Camp Croft when it was a military base.
Loved the park! Took a day trip from myrtle beach! Did the majority of the palmetto trail and it was awesome! Loved the openings on Kelsey creek! They made for a good few cool down spots. I didnt realize until finished that the Advance America Bridge was super close to the parking area and not really on the main part of the trail! Quick access to the bridge is parking near the horse area and office!
I caught 12 fish in 2 hours, super good luck, use the worms they sell there they carp love it!! Had a great time
Its okay. It was hot. Fishing was fair. Barking dogs and people smoking cigarettes. We left a day early. We likely wont be back. We like the camping in the more mountainous parks where it is cooler.
Nice trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Camping and fishing are allowed.
Love riding and camping here
Nice place for hiking, bike-riding or horse-riding. Just a couple dollars to get in. We had a great hike to the lake and found out that there was a horse show the next day. Several hikes to choose from and the paths are clearly marked. Its nice to come upon some horses in your walk
Hadnt mountain biked in donkeys ages. Rode this am at the trails around Johnsons lake. Really nice. The area around the lake looked awesome as well.
Beautiful place! Staff was friendly Park was well maintained and clean. ( shout out to the ground keepers ) We had a very nice stay. Definitely going back
A beautiful natural place highly recommend going there for walking hiking fishing boating
Great place near Spartanburg to get out in the woods for a good hike! Lots of trails to choose from so there should be one that fits you level of fitness...
Very large park with many trails. I was geocaching here and it was a very pleasant morning walk to the cache.
Super clean and relaxing! Really enjoyed it.
Nice place to bring the family and your dog.
Nice area to walk, fish, ride horses.
Great park to camp and hike.
Another state park that had great trails
Wonderful park. The staff and rangers are awesome. Lots of trails and wildlife to enjoy.
This park has lots of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails! A large lake for fishing and boating only; no swimming. There are some really nice creeks though. There is an equestrian park where you can watch horse riding competitions for free. A small playground for kids is close to the lake and horse area. The camping site are nice and the bathrooms are well stocked and clean. The camp site that are farther from the lake are larger. I went with a larger group with 10 kids tent camping and we all had a blast!
Enjoyed my 1 1/2 hike with my friends.
Very quiet and clean. A great place to camp and just relax.
Great place to bring the family to fish, hike, or just get away from the electronics!
Great state park. Clean and quiet campground. The office staff is very nice and helpful. We have hiked the trails, swam in the creek, played at the park and have enjoyed it all.
Great place to go fishing and go to the gun rang witch is my favorite thing to do and place to go.
First time visit. Great trails, Nice afternoon for a walk in the woods. informative office help, too! Sweet little gem of a spot.
So many beautiful trails!
Loved it . I went fishing with my son . They had jon boats, Canoes, Kayak and paddle boards available. Only electric trollers allowed on the small lake. They got horse stables, hiking trails, camping sites . Its chill people are chill . I recommend for the family.
Beautiful peaceful lake plus nature trail
Nice clean place. Numerous wide open places. Nice place for a picnic
Nice park, clean with plenty to do and a nice swimming spot. The bike trails are pretty good too! All the staff I spoke with were very nice
Excellent place to enjoy family and friends. Plenty of space the social distance and yet spend time with family.
Great place to camp and mountain bike. Lakes for fishing and kayaking as well. I dont have a horse, but lots of trails for horses too. Bike trails are smooth, well maintained, and a lot of fun! Been there camping and hiking twice in the past month. Short drive to Spartanburg as well if you want an evening in civilization. One of my favorite State Parks.
It is a clean campground, bathroom and camp site. No one bother you.
Nice relaxing place to kayak. Free if you have your own. Get there early if you want to rent!
Absolutely a great place! Clean, great campsites, very quiet and peaceful.
Nestled into a small lake, nice hike around the area to a river, longer hikes available. Well stocked souvenir gift shop. Equestrian events. Nice camp sites, not well suited for tent camping at the door we used - to Rocky. Geared more for cannot trailers.
Beautiful place. Only thing is they were only allowing one person inside the office/store at a time which i understand for ppl renting items. But they should open a window for ppl just wanting something small like a drink.
Great Rv spot and friendly staff. The road into the park can be quite rough, and the trees need the lower branches cut around the road ways where the hook ups are. Our trailer does have a overall length of 43’. Drive 15 to Spartanburg for a lovely small town lunch.
Beautiful wooded campgrounds, camp host was the best! Lovely lady.
I would love to see more benches around the lake.
Excellent Lake to enjoy boating or fishing. Never crowded, always boats available.
Favorite trail in Sparkle City! makes you feel as if your in a different area completely!
GREAT fishing experience. I caught about 3 largemouth bass and 20 crappie
The lake has a boat access as well as boat and kayak rentals.. benches along the water and a beautiful newer looking fishing pier.. highly recommended for a day trip.!
Enjoyed the trails . Very beautiful. The bathroom and facilities were nice. The office had two people who were busy eating breakfast and seemed annoyed that we were there. They said they were short on maps and to use smart phone instead. I go to trails to get away from my smartphone. The ranger drove by once without a wave or checking on us. The staff are not good.
Great spot for fishing!
A lot of fun for a low price. A great place to spend the entire day.
Surprisingly a very nice campground so close to home. I love going camping but sometimes it is nice to be able to get away and camp but it be close to home.
Great weekend of camping, hiki h, and fishing
Just went there to visit family staying there, but I liked the little that I saw. We will probably try camping there in the future.
Great place for a scenic easy hike. Lots to do, have not explored it all, but the hiking trails are great. Great for kids.
Excellent park and facilities
Nice place to go fishing had a good time
Beautiful State Park! Well maintained. Clean bathrooms and showers. Friendly staff. Did I mention it is beautiful? Some of the spots can be a bit tight with a drop into the lake penalty (might be an exaggeration, but I remember how spots like this felt in the early days), so if you are new to your RV, and it is on the larger side, maybe hold off. Otherwise, we have been here a week in the rain and couldn’t be happier.
Great place for partys and get togethers. Had my daughters birthday party for the 2nd time there. The shelter was nice and clean when we arrived.
Beautiful setting with clean facilities
Awesome camping. Take the trail in campground to the river where you can get in the water. Great for kids. Horse events all year long. Fishing is not bad for pan fish. I have caught fish there from the shore as well but only early AM.
Did a half marathon here. Very well kept.trails
A beautiful, serene spot. I love to bring my grandchildren to the park to enjoy the great outdoors. We hike, explore, reconnect, pet the horses, talk with others, and generally take in the beauty of this gorgeous area. Such a nice place to spend an afternoon.
Best trails south of the mountains. If fact you will be hard pressed to know that you are not in the mountains.
My primary reason to go to Croft is for equestrian trail riding. In that regards they do a superb job of having a variety of trails with different levels of difficulty and distance to give any level of Rider a good ride and even a good test. I recommend Croft not only for their Trails but they also do horse shows and other events. All in all a very active State Park and worth visiting.
This was our first time there, it was nice and the older boys enjoyed fishing and the creek. The playground wasnt open for smaller kids. The park manager stayed on us the whole weekend while we were there. The other staff are awesome. We were told each day we werent following the rules. When the park manager tells us the rules and we followed what were told, he came back with something else. We tried our best to stay positive for the kids. With this COVID stuff we understand the rules, but having a big family this site isnt recommended. Especially if you have more than 2 adults planning on staying at the site. We bought 2 camping lots just for the park manager to tell us we could only visit for 30miutes long enough to eat. When we asked about the shelter to keep them from coming back out on us if we hadnt left within 30minutes. And was told only 10 at the shelter. To ride by after the park manager told us we couldnt. As we took some to fish while we cooked to keep from having 4 adults on site, to see 30+ at the shelter and nothing was said close to 7pm. We will not be back. We go by the rules when they addressed them and tried our very best to stay positive so we could give it another try in the future. But we dont see this happening
James O Thomason Range is great!!
Only $10 for a kayak rental, nice lake and campground. Lots of horse people come here and camp with their horses.
