The Multicultural Center held its annual Christmas Around the World exhibit. The exhibition featured Christmas and different winter celebration from different parts of the world. Each cultures flag was represented. They also a small write up giving details of each celebration. My favorites were the: African and African-American exhibits, Greek, Native American, and the Asians. There was also a homage to Louisianas Cajun culture. I would like to see the exhibition next year.
This was a cool little stop. They have a small museum downstairs and a Victorian Room upstairs. Parking was our only expense. Nice stop with information about the early days of the city of Shreveport.
This is a quaint little spot that is a must see if you come through Shreveport. It is completely free (donations accepted). The archaeologist who recovered many of the exhibits is on site to give detailed information and walk you through the museum. I had a great time here but it is small so do not plan to stay for more than an hour.
Great attraction to visit with friends and family. Marty and Maria will give you a great experience. They will make you realize so many things you didn’t now about Shreveport. They love their job and it shows
Fascinating history in Shreveport, the day before Halloween. Haunting Eve...
A really cool and interesting place!
Nice people and very informative.
The first thing you notice about the Spring Street Historic Museum (SSHM) is the building; it is beautiful. One of the oldest buildings downtown, the former Tallys Bank was recently repainted and updated both inside and out. The building is small, but it packs in a tremendous amount of history from the founding of the area to the Yellow Fever epidemic that wiped out 25% of the population to the legal Red Light District (larger than New Orleans Storyville district) to the Civil War shipyards that produced submarines for the Confederate Army. Shreveport started as a rough and ready Texas trail town and along the way, grew wealthy with oil and gas discoveries. There are so many things to discover and the very knowledgeable museum director is always happy to share his stories and a few treasure-hunting tips, to boot.
Such a cute museum! The staff are very very nice, and its a fascinating historical place.
Small, but jammed packed with historical artifacts, photos, facts, and even an interactive, computer type game. Free admission, along with a super friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable staff make a visit to this, the oldest building in Shreveport-Bossier, an absolute necessity. Perfect for a secondary trip like to the near by Aquarium, or before you hit up the Boardwalk. Multiple stories, old timey elevator lift available for handicapped. (But not sure entire museum could be accessed by wheelchair). My 9 year old granddaughter enjoyed this museum. Great place for a homeschooler field trip; fun, interesting, and worth while.
Cold, nevertheless its worth 4.5 stars, the only thing holding it back is the temperature of the building.Itll be hot, then itll be cold, very suddenly
Storm knocked out power, and staff still gave us a tour.
The staff couldnt have been more helpful. You could tell he loved his job and loved to share everything he new. I would recommend stopping by and seeing.
The displays were interesting and the staff knew a ton. Ill definitely go back.
