As the Director of Operations at Son Tours, Inc. we have many school groups that are doing Georgia Area Studies tours in Savannah, and one of the places I always suggest to our teachers is the Massie Heritage Center. The staff there do a great job with the kids, showing the history of our countries educational process and the vast change that has taken place over the years. I suggest this as an addition to any tour, or even a family visit, do not miss it!!!
Great place to take kids to learn the education history as well as development history of Savannah Georgia.
We went to this establishment as a stop for a Savannah trolley tour. This was by far my favorite stop! So much to learn and the staff were very knowledgeable. I cant wait to go back to learn more. I highly recommend the Massie Heritage Center. Thank you!
This was a really nice tour of the history of Savannah. It was a great way to spend the afternoon and our tour guide was so nice! Id recommend this if you want to expose the family to some hands on history.
Outstanding history museum in Savannah. Great for families with kids, or if you have a special interest in the architecture of Savannah.
This is definitely worth the price very good tour of the center and a lot of history on Savannah.
Delicious food, awesome service. Definately a place Ill come back to.
I went here on a field trip with my childs school. The kids seemed to enjoy themselves. The explain the history of the building in a way for the kids to understand.
A great bonus to our Holly Jolly Christmas Your with the Great Trolley Tour.Super informative about Savannah. Even Santa to greet the guests. The city model was great along with the stories of each square in the city. The Native American story was also great. Good to see the good relationship between the settlers and natives.
We got a lovely tour from Ted! It was the perfect place to start our stay in Savannah. Provides wonderful context.
Love this place. The longest functioning public school in the south. You can feel the history within the walls and they have preserved quite a bit of its original formGreat museum for Savannah history and a superb part of the visiting experience.Highly recommended.
Really loved this museum. Very interactive for the kids, and lots of artifacts and history to be had. I highly recommend checking it out if youre in Savannah!
Wish I enjoyed this more than I did. I was dissapointed
Massie Heritage Center is an excellent place to learn about the history of Savannah. It is also very enlightening to find out information behind the current architecture and layout of the downtown area. I really enjoyed the 3-D model of the historic district. There is enough here to keep both adults and kids interested for a couple of hours. The full sized classroom allows you to try on period costumes and take pictures. You can also learn about the history of the building and its various purposes. I enjoyed my time here and it is highly recommended.
I love this museum especially the classroom on the second floor. The staff there is always very nice and I love how most of the museum is hands on.
If you want to know more about blacks in post-Civil War Savannah, be sure to go to this school.
The letters in “Massie Heritage Center” can be rearranged to spell “Messiah Create Integer”. I believe this is subliminal messaging implying the coexistence of faith and science.
Im here now with my childs school field trip. So far the tour guides seem rude and have proven your child can ask the wrong question and get embarrassed for answering the question wrong. They have restrooms but tiny can not even compare to how small this place is. This was the most boring field trip I have ever been on.
If going to Savannah for the first time this the first stop you should make. It gives the history of the city from 20,000 years ago to present. Architecture, development, education it has it all. Best is that its within walking distance of all important buildings and the waterfront.
Its Really cool and it showed me what it was like to be a student in savanna in the 1800 to 1900s
Interactive map with laser show shows you how the city was built. Go here first and it will help you understand everything else you see.
I enjoyed the self guided tour, the classroom was my favorite of course because I am a teacher.
The Square is very beautiful and historical markers are prevalent.
Outstanding Museum the very topics from early Schoolhouse, Maritime, American Native (for the area), and architecture exhibits. Try and time your visit and get a guided tour its free and very informative.
I had such a great experience at the Massie Heritage Center! The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and super friendly. The Heritage Center involves the most authentic historical experience that I have experienced in a Savannah museum. It literally includes ALL of Savannah’s history. It’s awesome that the local Chatham County Schools get to experience this for free each year! I will absolutely bring my friends.
Great museum worth checking out if you are sight seeing in the area. They have the old school house, history on early local inhabitants, architecture, a pretty cool presentation on the city itself, its design etc.
Nice museum, the staff are all friendly and helpful. Great for kids as the exhibits offer many interactive and engaging opportunities for children to interact with. It is a smaller museum so it will not take you too long to do and still allow you to explore Savannah. Staff also offer more information about the exhibits and answer any questions.
The Massie Heritage Center is a hidden gem in Savannah. Beautiful historic building with original classroom setting upstairs. I loved the panoramic display of Savannahs layout and the displays of Savannahs many types of architecture. Beautiful outside area as well.
This place is a hidden gem. It was very informative and enjoyable. The room where the school children were taught was interesting to see.
Very nice interesting warm welcome !
The tour was a little longer than I expected, but Bob was the best guide Ive ever had. Retired and volunteering only on Mondays and Wednesdays (if I remember correctly), he has a passion for the history of the city. This really shines through and makes the tour very enjoyable!
Interesting history of the 1st school in Savannah for poor white children whose parents couldnt afford to send them away to boarding school.
Great place for Architecture students.
Good history on the school, native Americans, area, and many boats and ships that were made to scale, etc.
Nice piece of historic history
An excellent museum for culture, heritage, education and history.A must see when visiting Savannah.
This museum has lots of fascinating information. They have different exhibits set up to give you history of Savannah, and the different time periods. It was definitely worth the time and money if you like history.
Beautifu and Historic with a wonderful staff!!!
Interesting place. Very historic.
My son went to summer camp here for a week and really enjoyed it.
Lots of cool history!
Very good museum, covers a lot of differentsubjects including a section on the history of the architecture of the city, education, Indians and some maritime information. Fun for groups!
Wonderful exhibits on history and architecture in Savannah. Especially enjoyed the Native American exhibit.
Wonderful museum brimming with the citys history and much more than youd expect. Worth taking a tour if youre a local or just in town for a visit.
Ive lived in Savannah for over a year and didnt know about this place. my cousin came to town to visit and found it and wanted to go. it was very nice! they had clothes so kids could dress up in clothes like kids wore in the old days. my 1 year old daughter even had a lot of fun. its definitely worth stopping in to see! they have a pretty nice little gift shop too. i might go back just to get my daughter a few things from there.
Very informative. The class room was a big step into the past.
Always discover new things here. Great interactive activities for kids.
Fun place to learn more about Savannah. Authentic school old school room.
Visit here was nice and took about 30-minutes to complete our visit which included one of their tours.
I cant say enough good things about this place. It was a unique insight into Savannah and the role of their school. It was well done especially for children.
Save your money!! None of their information is factual. Solely there to take your money.
Could be cleaner and better maintained.
