This is a delightful little opera house where the music is presented by an excellent orchestra, the staging of the operas is effective and imaginative, and the singing is professional. For a small town they do an excellent job. Seating offers good views, though seats could be more comfortable. Amenities during intermissions offer limited seating and are mostly outdoors. We have never been affected by rain so far but it could happen.
Came tonight for my brother Mozarts Magic Flute. The insturmentation was very good. We were in the mezzanine and the acoustics were very good. The voices were excellent! Great theater, funny and very entertaining. Stage props were not opulent but fit the story very well. The facility itself is very nice. Comfortable with excellent sight lines. The staff here is excellent. We both really enjoyed the show. Recommend you come here!
Beautiful historic theatre, home to an incredibly fine opera company for a community of this size. A resource Sarasota can be proud of.
A beautiful venue that you do not expect to see behind a relatively modest facade.
Another beautiful Sarasota treasure.Have dinner in one of the many nearby restaurants.Walk to the theatre in a starlight evening.Located in an ornate circa 1926 building.Beautifully produced classic operas.Take your mind off the mundane and be transformed.A new Happy place that will pleasure your memories forever.Like in Europe refreshments between Acts.Sit in the outdoor courtyard sip some wine and relive all the melodies in your mind.Beautiful evenings, delightful and refreshing.Oh yes, one more thing stop for pastries and coffee afterwards.I’ll be back.
Beautiful theatre. Front row side seats are entirely too close to the stage. My knees hit the rails for the pit-theres more leg room on a plane! Otherwise comfortable with good sound.Parking could be simpler. Valet is easiest, just be prepared to wait afterwards (dont forget cash for a tip). Helpful and kind staff, clean restrooms with many stalls to help move things along.
One of the best regional opera companies in the US. High quality productions, good singers, all done in a traditional style. I know, because I’ve been working there as a singer for the past 11 years... so maybe this is a biased review. But really, it’s a great company
This is a wonderful opera company. The singers were magnificent, the costumes and sets were excellent, and I loved that the Opera House is small and intimate. A really good experience.
We enjoyed our first opera, la Boheme here pre covid. Magnificent. Cant wait for the next one.
The entire cast was strong, amazing and human, with not only outstanding voices but skilled acting abilitites. Its impossible to single out 1 performance because each artist delivered such an impactful performance. Sets, scenes and costumes were gorgeous. Our maestro is putstanding. Orchestra is beautiful
Nationally acclaimed repertory opera house. The Met of the south. You owe it to yourself to go to the opera. Lovely venue, amazingly talented singers, the costumes are amazing!
Pleasure watching my first Ballet. My sister-in-law was principle and I was impressed. The building is very classic and great seats everywhere. Parking was a little stressful. I parked in the whole foods parking ramp
This is a jewel in Sarasota. We have enjoyed every performance weve attended over several years. There is a charm about this small theater. The acoustics are great and all seats have excellent sight lines.
Got to see a wonderful performance by the Sarasota orchestra! We absolutely loved it and will be back to see more performances. The only complaint I have was the air conditioning. We were seated up at the top/back of the balcony and all of us in the last few rows were sweating. As far as sound goes, I dont think there is a bad seat in the house! Go see a performance here whenever you have the chance!!!
I loved this place. Acoustics are sensational. The physical appearance is wonderful. Not sure about the left side balcony seating I chose but that said you can clearly see the stage. I will definitely return.
Would recommend this theater for good Opera. All seats provide great views. Acoustics were excellent
Comfortable seats with good legroom.Nice historic building. Saw the Sarasota Orchestra perform Beethovens fifth. Good acoustics allowed the orchestra to really shine. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Its a great mixture of classic opera presentations done with a contemporary eye to quality. One of the countries top opera companies (in a great town to visit)
Love the Opera House! This specific performance was fantastic! We usually park in the City parking ramp.
Fabulous Christmas show. The Ditchfield family singers were the best. Such harmony!
Very nice venue. Parking is a bit scarce. Best bet is to park across the street at the library.
Beautiful, smaller opera venue with extraordinary talent and very responsive and supportive patrons!
A great building with wonderful acoustics to enjoy an opera or a musical performance. Enjoy a great dinner then see a performance at the Sarasota Opera House. Experience the best of Sarasota.
The Opera house was very nice. It possessed a comfortable atmosphere. The indoor waiting area was small but pleasant to wait for the show but they also had a larger outdoor waiting/intermission area next to thier concessionaire service. It appeared that they only serve beverages such as soda and coffee for the matinee. It looked like they serve alcohol (Draft Beer) for shows in the evening. For snacks they had candy bars, chips and other minor items. Prices were not overly outrageous either, but a slightly larger coffee cup would have been nice. The theater itself is excellent. The aisles are just nearly wide enough for 2 way traffic with wheelchairs it seems. The seats are comfortable and my legs did not fall asleep after three hours in the seat.Parking is an unmitigated and unholy nightmare. I had to arrive and hour early and spent nearly 40 minutes looking for parking for a Saturday matinee. That was the only down side though it is a big one.I was going to give it a 3 star rating, because of the parking, but the staff are excellent and they gave an experience that actually made me forget about the parking for a while so I added a star just for their amazing skill and service while I attended the performance.
Great place to go in Sarasota for an Opera or a ballet. Never a bad performance. Top notch.
Great production of Romeo and Juliet!! Orchestra!! Voices! Costumes! Love this venue!
Saw a performance of the Sarasota Ballet. Excellent performance by the troupe and the orchestra. Very entertaining evening.
A true Sarasota gem. Great venue. I attend the movie nights, great classics to enjoy on the BIG screen.
Delightful program! Important to me because my granddaughter takes lessons from the clarinetist...and my grandaughter was entranced with the program and her teacher!Further, I was surprised at the format. Not used to watching the stage re arranged based on the program of music! The musician skills were fantastic. As a keyboard person it was gratifying to watched their adjustments based on the program.I would recommend attending any of their programming simply for the musicianship.Yes, Im biased..I am a keyboard person and enjoy fantastic musicianship when IHear it...
Very well managed facility, usually offers valet parking, ushers very helpful. Many restaurant/bar/cafes nearby.
World Class Music: Julliard String Quartet.Beautiful venue
Beautiful old theater. Really great Christmas show.
The Ditchsfield family sang their Christmas concert there and they were awesome as always and the stage was greatly decorated and the seating and atmosphere was great as always.
And historic old opry House well-maintained beautiful lobby comfortable seating.
The food and the wine were fantastic. But listening to the children sing really made the event exceptional!
The Opera House is an historic gem! Unfortunately Opera is performed the old fashioned way. The cast doesnt sing to each other and they dont act. They stand in place and sing to the audience perhaps expecting that the song will communicate who they are singing to and about what. And, the cast doesnt seem aware that they are living in an age of voice amplification. Quiet emotions can be communicated quietly.
We just saw one of the best performances of Beethovens Fifth at the Opera House. Its the start of the season here in Sarasota! Bravo Bravo
A beautiful venue but the seating is very old, squeaky and uncomfortable to sit in longer then a few mintues. If the seating was updated I would see more performances because it really is a charming space.
Dress warm, they keep it very chilly.
We watched a performance of Turandot at Sarasota Opera House and everything about the evening was remarkable. Everyone, from the gentlemen that take care of parking our cars to the singers and orchestra, exhibits competence. The performance was splendid and we plan to go back for the next season, overcoming the 90+ minutes drive inconvenience.
A jewel of Sarasota offering its resident access to great performances.
I am big opera lover, and had visited numerous opera houses around the world. What I like about this one the most, beside always great selection and high quality is their exceptional stage and costume designs! As a visual artist I truly enjoy that if you would capture any moment of any opera it would look like a beutiful painting with perfect colors and composition.
This is a beautiful building and the Opera company is first rate
Amazing opera house. I really liked the layout. Up close and personal to the Opera Singers. And the acoustics are amazing.
Fantastic show! Ditchfield Family Singers! Wow!
The production was flawless. Every voice was superb, including the chorus. Jonathan Burton is a stunning tenor. My wife and I were thrilled by the entire performance.
Great opera performances in a charming, old world theater.
I went to see Marriage of Figaro. It was absolutely amazing. The actual Opera House is beautiful and everyone that works there is very friendly and professional. The cast in the actual opera was amazing and this opera house has a screen that gives subtitles so you can understand what the characters are saying.
This is a modified classic venue. Our seats were in the center balcony from where the view and acoustics were excellent. The auditorium is small enough that no seat requires binoculars. Well maintained. The stage lighting mounted in the side walls weaken the ascetics.
MASTERS OF DANCE of the SARASOTA BALLET was a PURE DELIGHT!!!Usually I love only traditional ballet, and was pleased with the first 2 acts accompanied by lovely piano music (although I certainly could have done WITHOUT the singing in the second act, it was too distracting!!!) but I was honestly prepared NOT to like the third act when I had read the synopsis of it in the program, it sounded just too silly.WAS I EVER WRONG!!!! It was hilarious, so well done, in my whole life I have never seen HUMOR portrayed in Ballet, so this came as a very pleasant surprise. Everyone, and I mean the whole audience left the Opera House feeling lighthearted and happy because of the last piece, BRAVO - it was a night I will long remember!!!!
Fabulous Sarasota Music Festival concert. These students are amazing!
Great acoustics and beautiful ballet always
What a beautiful setting for my grandsons high school graduation. We were very proud and the opera house was gorgeous and s.
Performers and Performances were superb. I have a new love of Opera!
The Opera House is graceful and I dont think they have a bad seat in the house. All seats are close enough to the stage to allow all to enjoy an excellent performance.
Had a great time with the family watching, Young Frankenstein
Gorgeous location... walking distance to most food and nightlife. Comfortable seats, good viewing angles.
My first opera, Turandot, and it was delightful!. The orchestra and cast were top notch. Seats are comfortable and there is no bad seat.
World class, magnificent performances by the Montrose Trio and oboist Nathan Hughes. As good as it gets!
A very comfortable and cosy theater with excellent acoustics
I treated a friend for Hidden Holiday Treasures for Christmas because she loves modern dance and I love classical music. The orchestra was wonderful but they took most of the stage and the dance ensemble performed at the edge of the front stage, an area which is almost impossible to view from the balcony seats! We had to lean forward and strain to see all the dancers. There was only one dance performance and in my opinion, it bordered on the demonic. Terrible! Not appropriate for the holiday at all!! I expected more dance performances because the brochure listed the orchestra and dance as if they had equal time. Not the case at all. I heard and saw very little holiday in Hidden Holiday Treasures (maybe it was hidden).
Wonderful experience watching the Cuban Ballet. Incredible Talent
Wonderful acoustics great talent.
Beautiful opera house! Great show with a wonderful cast. Will definitely be back.
Nice venue. Comfortable.
Outstandingly posh....yet humble in its breadth. Keep up the marvelous work and all that you do for the SRQ community!
I thoroughly enjoyed Turandot! Great performance! The opera house is a wonderful venue.
Nice building. Good sightlines. Seat rows are a bit tight to each other for getting past people. Comfortable chairs.
This place was breathtaking. I felt like I was at a Opera House in a Big City. This place was Beautiful. The staff was was also very helpful and happy.P.S. If anyone is planning to attend the Sarasota Opera House in the future. There is absolutely truly not a bad set in this beautiful place.
It is a beautiful place with great performances! I have been there a few times with My Husband (a huge Opera lover) and we have never been dissapointed.
Very nice venue. Polite and courteous people!
Very beautiful and generous with local students
Beautiful and comfortable place. Saw the nutcracker. It was really nice. Good light, good sound!
Beautiful performances and amazing youth programs are what makes it so special!
RoSFest was great, and the Sarasota Opera House was a fine venue for it. Unfortunately, its not well suited to setting up vendor stands in the lobby area, but it wasnt built for that!
Nice old (with US time scale) building. The scene is rather small it is not easy to set up bigger operas here. Lot of steep stairs for elderly people, the handrails help. The acoustic is good. It is not easy to find a parking place.
I love the Sarasota Opera! The costumes, scenery, artistic direction and interpretation, wonderful orchestra and of course the beautiful voices!
Great performance. Nice venue.
Its a Christmas tradition for our family to see the Nutcracker every year, this time was at the Opera house on Sunday, December 16th. It is a very nice venue with helpful staff and has comfortable seats... but not a shred of Christmas decorations in the place and felt like walking into the entryway of a high end nursing home that refuses to celebrate Christmas. Look forward to seeing other plays here but will go somewhere else next year for the Nutcracker. Btw, the dancers were great.
I went for my daughters graduation and it was a very nice establishment!
Great to have a place to go with some old world charm and modern conveniences! Spent a lovely afternoon tasting local restaurants and some fine wines in this 90 year old theater renovated in 08. Looking forward to some great shows and fun events!
Amazing venue! Tickets are fairly priced and my favorite thing is that there are so many events that are showcased here that are NOT operas: modern and classical dance, concerts, vaudeville shows, PINC, the list goes on!
Valet parking. Handicapped accessible. Wonderful staff.
This is a great venue with exceptional acoustics as well as courteous and accommodating staff.
Seasons tickets every year. Small theater but good
A small opera house compared with the MET in New York City, but the performances are wonderful.
This is just a great venue for whatever.
Ditchfield Family Singers were spectacular. We had front row seats, so took a long time to get out of building. Suggest open more exits.
We just love going to Sarasota Ballet presentations at the Opera Haus!
Great performances, beautiful setting.
Saw the Ditchfield family Christmas concert here. Perfect setting for the holidays. Beautiful building.
