Great preserve for short walks in the shade. Rarely have I seen it crowded. There are restrooms, a few pic-nic tables and a swing set near the parking and trailhead. Lovely if small preserve.

The slough (sloo, slow flowing river) is a piece of original swamp vegetation near the city. Walkways, banks, playground, toilet, parking place comforting the visitors. Fishing is allowed, but no dog bath because of the alligators. Unfortunately lot of invasive, alien species are here as the air potato, Singapore daisy, creeping Charlie, water hyacinth, water lettuce etc. Worth a visit, easiest to enter from the Beneva road. Several sturdy information signs lecturing about the biotop.

My two small dogs love the natural trails found at Red Bug Slough. I often let them lead the way even if the trail is less traveled and they love the adventures! This is the first year I noticed evidence of homeless campsites in the area...teepee like structures and more elaborate lean tos etc. At first I understood that the folks need to try and stay warm during the cold months but I do worry that this may become a more established community year round.

Ive been coming to this park for quite some years now. The front area by the street has changed several times. They only have a swing set now instead of a full playground and thats a bit depressing. However, the rest of the park is gorgeous and well taken care of. Its amazing for dogs to run around and for people to have picnics.

Nice park with a beautiful lake and wildlife. Picnic tables with shade, nature trails and lots of room for dogs to run. The kids park leaves much to be desired, there are a lot of homeless people out there who, to my knowledge just sleep and leave and cause no harm. Bathrooms lock automatically at night time, we found out the hard way.

Any nature is good nature. I remember walking here with my best friend. Telling him people should walk here on Sunday. Because organized religion is just a little confusing. Those tree canopy walkways and the light filtered through the leaves is something amazing. If not divine.Ofcourse I was speaking from a spiritual perspective, and we were smoking a blunt. Lol

The name is off-putting, who ever heard of a slough? But this city owned park is gorgeous. It has ponds and trees and grasst to walk on and a trail system that only lacks one thing, Trail markers. How can you waste such pretty land is anybody,s guess? Oh yes you can come out but youre always wondering is this where you came in...Is Sarasota that poor?People love bringing their dogs here because of the Wide Open Spaces.

My dogs think this is heaven. Walk through the woods out to the green pasture by the lake, how does it get any better? Only negative is that this is county land and they stopped providing poop bags a few years ago, although many people try to keep the bags stocked.

This is really a Hidden Gem of Sarasota. It doesnt seem like much but its a huge park with beautiful lakes and plenty of room to wander with the family. Its also centrally located so its a quick 5-minute ride and you can escape all the traffic and craziness.

An
Review №89

Nice place to walk your dog? Ok, well, this park is a little more spacious so when all these people are passing you with their dogs your not bothered too much like some of the smaller parks.Aside from that theres a really nice back area with trails, a nice bridge where the trees shade it later in the day, ive seen woodpeckers, owls, and hawks several times here. Theres a dock next to the water. Two sides to view the pond/lake. Plenty of shade but plenty of sun if you want that too. Has restrooms. Nice place. Only thing i dont like is the white dirt parking area thats dusty. Other than that its a nice spot. Two other enter/exit areas other than the main. So 3 ways to come or go if not more.

Love the choice of being in the open near the pond, or being under the shade on trails. I come here often with my dog during the summer. Just wish there was more parking to accommodate all of the locals when it gets busy during season.
