Great historic district. Watch out because anything you eat will try to kill you. I was a native of New Mexico and very surprised at how spicy everything was. I did get to meet a professional card player so keep your eyes open because nature isn’t the only thing on the menu while you are in town.

Wow, a beautifully vibrant place! Street musicians crooning poetically, incredible native american art(did we mention there were performers singing? Yes!) everywhere. The patrons and businesses are ecclectic and pleasant. It provides huge selections of shops to browse and eateries to enjoy. A magnificent atmosphere, backdropped with the awe inspiring mountain tops. We could just set up shop and live here!! This area left an impression that I do not think we will soon forget.

Its strange to see the plaza as closed and quiet and no festivities during this time of quarantine. Not all people respecting social distance or masks and no one around encouraging these mandates, and businesses more interested in packing as many people as possible for survival instead of safety. Lesson learned, we will stick with Dashing Delivery and solitary outings in nature. :-)

The buildings were beautiful but the shops felt overwhelmingly touristy. I got a pair of turquoise earrings that were marked down 50% & then discounted a little more - it felt like they couldn’t be making money like this unless they were marked up like crazy just to “give the customer a discount.” I did buy gifts for family from a street vendor that seemed more reasonably priced. Worth it to walk around & see the history.

9/30/19: Its still here. Nice gift shops. Native Americans selling their wares. Eateries. Santa Fe is 2 miles high! Im out of breath. I visited 3 very good museums on or near this square during this visit. A Native American art museum. A New Mexican art museum, & another historical museum. There are more museums in Santa Fe that I will visit on my next trip to NM. I had Altitude Sickness, so I was limited with my energy level.

Within the hustle and bustle of the historic district of Santa Fe is this lovely sanctuary. Sit in the shade on a bench and rest. Listen to street musicians, enjoy people watching, or plan your next thing to do in town. The plaza is ringed with shops, restaurants and hotels. Galleries and museums are very short walks away. On the north side of the plaza is the historic Palace of the Governors. Don’t miss the Native American artists selling beautiful jewelry and pottery there. It’s a beautiful space in the city.

Not as much fun as pre-Covid19! The native American market is closed, and although the stores are all open, the plaza is not as vibrant as it used to be. But if you just want to go to the art galleries, this is probaby a good time to do so. Parking is much easier to find and streets are not at all crowded. Lovely place to hang around and doing some shopping. Lots of art places have set up shop in the vicinity of the plaza so it’s an ideal place to buy some paintings with that New Mexican/Native American flavor.I recommend drinking a local pint at one of the cafes situated around the plaza, most of them have locally brewed lagers and it’s a great way to cool off on a hot day.

It really is a beautiful area. I had a nice time walking around and exploring the different shops. My only problem was that it was too darn cold but that has nothing to do with the Santa Fe Plaza. Do you enjoy history? Do you enjoy shops that offer unique works of art and jewelry crafted by Native American, Spanish, Mexican, and Anglo artists and craftsmen? Do you like a wide choice of fun restaurants? Well, if your answer is yes to any of these questions...Santa Fe Plaza is a place you should visit. We enjoy all these things, so the plaza was a truly enjoyable place to experience. What a person would like the best there is certainly subjective; for us it was the history and the ample opportunities to browse and shop in one of a kind shops. In terms of history, the Palace of the Governors, the oldest continuously occupied government building in the United States, was truly impressive. The structure was built by the Spanish governors of the territory of Nuevo Mexico in the early 1600s and has stood the many political changes in the decades and centuries since. Its mind blowing to consider all the stories those walls could tell. The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi is another must see site for lovers of history ( or folks who appreciate religion or architecture). The basilica dates back to the 1800s and is a truly majestic structure. The evening we were there, it was enlivened by a large, joyous, family celebrating what appeared to be a Quinceanara. It was a reminder that the basilica, while brimming with history, is very much a living house of worship. The shops and galleries in the plaza were loaded with dazzling artistic creations. We left with a new perspective and appreciation for Native American, Spanish, and Mexican culture.Santa Fe Plaza, in our experience, is simply a unique and wonderful place. If you have the chance...visit. You wont be disappointed.

Been excited about visiting Santa Fe for months in spite of it being a detour. On arrival I could see the old world look immediately and liked it. After getting out and exploring I was a bit let down. Loads of shops but all selling jewellery or Native American/Mexican fabrics and items at extortionate prices. There was an obvious gulf between have and have nots which was sad. I wanted to find a seat in the sun at a cafe and have a drink but this proved really difficult. I visited in May and maybe thats too early but it took the shine off for me. My overall impression was that it was a destination for older, wealthy tourists, happy to spend hundreds or thousands on mementos. Glad I have been but hoped for more depth to the cultural vibe.
