As far as trails are concerned, the loop trail is well maintained but youre never far from the road and the East segment is basically through a camp site. Seemed like car camping options were suited for families. I enjoyed a bit of birding but overall I prefer something that takes me further from civilization.

We thought the proximity to Santa Fe would make this park feel a bit urban but you really are out in the woods in a good way, feeling like you are much farther out. The views are amazing and the campsites are a nice distance apart from each other. The picnic table shelters are a really great amenity and there are some nice trails.

My first time here. And this is exactly what I think of when I envision a state park. Trails everywhere, picnic spots everywhere, pull-offs and options for camping. Roads and structures are well maintained. The state has done a great job with this place. There are even group sites with ample space for camping. And there a USGS ranked summit within the parks confines... Point 9440.Ill definitely be back.

We stayed a night in one of the 3 yurts. It was very easy to reserve online. The Yurts are located on their own loop adjacent to the RV campground and across from the regular campground. There is a gate that you are given the code to the day before your arrival. So it is very private and secluded. The Yurts themselves are so cute and come with 6 cots with matresses you can arrange any way you like. There is also a propane heater. There is a huge bear locker for all your food. There are many trails in the vicinity and up the road to Ski Santa Fe, so plenty to do. The table at the site was a bit small so we were glad we brought our card table for extra space.

One of my favorite parks. No water available and only pit privies, hence my lower rating. My camping experience contrasts sharply from a year ago when the park and national firest were shut down -- a direct result of the many folks who completely disregarded the seriously dangerous fire ban mandate. Cold and wet conditions have kept the throngs away and the intermittent creeks were flowing nicely. The falls were flowing and also a pleasure to visit. Kudos to Ranger Garcia who runs a tight ship on his watch.

Dates of stay: 6-8 July 17: No water. Apparently there has not been water for quite sometime, but the only thing it currently mentions on the state park website is that there isnt water to the RV Dump Station. It should read NO WATER THROUGHOUT ALL CAMPING AREAS. Nice park/area...heavily wooded. The main camping area is on the right just after the Hyde Park Visitor Center (as you are traveling 475 N). The RV loop is down a bit more on the left. RV Loop has power, paved spots, and concrete picnic tables (these sites are all reserved via the website). The park closely parallels NM-475. You will hear and see vehicles, but its not extensive by any means. The sign at the entrance to the main campground does not recommend RVs 35 feet or bigger. Id have to agree with that. The spots arent really set up to easily drive past and back into a spot. Although Spot 6 would fit a large 35 ft RV its almost impossible to drive past the spot and back in even with a 12-18 ft travel trailer. Spot 8 and 29 are easy to back in with a trailer trailer. Spot 26 is a nice pull through. The main road through the campground is one-way. The website states 50 Developed Sites, but several areas were not open (the loop that has Spots 1-4, the area with Spots 34-36 and the overflow were closed). The loop that has spots 11-17 is very tight for a travel trailer...Im actually quite surprised it is not restricted just to tent camping. A large 5th wheel (if it wasnt 35 ft it wasnt too far from that length) got stuck on that loop (see pics). I believe the driver stopped on the incline just before the very tight turn at the top of the loop and could not get going again (kept spinning tires...4wd too!) The Rangers tried helping with a front end loader/backhoe, but it was too much. The next morning a large wrecker truck spent 3 hours getting the rig freed. There are two pay stations, one at the beginning of the main road and one about half-way through the park. The vault toilets are not cared for as well as the other SPs Ive stayed at. The two by Group Site #2 in particular needed attention (one had no toilet paper and the other had no lock on the door) Nice hiking trails throughout the park. West Circle Trail (2.2 miles) was a good workout...(steep and rocky in areas, loose rock/dirt, etc). Waterfall trail nice, but the waterfall was more like a water-trickle. You can get a good idea if the waterfall is in full effect because the trail up to the fall parallels the creek that the waterfall feeds...if no water in creek, no water at the waterfall. Still a nice little hike and nice rock face. No cell service...I have Verizon and there was no service at the park...if you drive 3-4 miles in either direction on NM-475 you start picking up service. Santa Fe Ski Area is about 6 miles from the park.

Small mountaineous campground. Self-pay registeration system with little to no information to guide you through the process. If you pay more than required - its your loss and their gain. There is no cellphone service; the grounds are covered by gravel and various sizes rocks. The only way to secure a full hookup campsite (water and electric) is to make advance reservations. These are usually level campground sites.Mountainous sites are first come first served. Some may have electric while others may not. Mine had no utilities and my chassis was too low for me to drive up the hill to park near my grill and covered picnic table. So, I parked on the street. Never using the grill or covered table. Basically, I paid $40.00 to park on the street and use my own resources. This Campground is beside a highway that is heavily traveled. Speeding vehicles all day and night. There is a RV dump station up the highway.I wont camp here again. However, I met the nicest Forest Rangers.

Just visited this park. It is a really nice place and very close to Santa Fe making it convenient. The only problem that I had was with the availability of water. Their website says water at the Rangers station, and when I went to check, the Ranger station was closed. It said office hours 10am - 4pm, and I was there at about 3:30pm. To top it off, the water supply was locked!! Had it not been for the really nice Camp Host who spared me a gallon of his water, I would have had to go backinto town to get some. I wish the Ranger would keep the water unlockedwhen he is out of the office.

Hyde Memorial State Park is located on Hyde Park Road about halfway to the Santa Fe Ski Basin. For serious hikers, the park is a great starting point for many off trail adventures up the steep slopes to the mountains above. As always, be sure to take plenty of water, food, protective clothing and be sure to wear sturdy hiking boots. Trekking poles come in handy on the steep uncharted slopes. And, there are campsites if you decide to spend a night or two. Santa Fe is only 30 minutes away.

Lots of downed wood you can collect and burn. Did the 3 mile Circle Loop and Waterfall trail. Climb is 1300 feet. Great views of the Santa Fe National Forest. We didn’t have a car but had no trouble getting into town on our Specialized Como electric bikes. 10 miles of 30mph downhill out using no battery and 10 miles of 8mph uphill in 2-3.

Decent place. Views arent so outstanding, but its nice. Visitor center was closed when we pulled up, though that was where we were supposed to get our $5 parking permit. Had to drive around to multiple campsite stops to find a site that actually had permits to avoid a $25 fine. No bathroom at the visitor center either-- also have to drive up to a campsite for that. Aside from that though, we completed a difficult hike with our dog and enjoyed ourselves.

Campsites are first come first serve. Gate locks at 10pm for some camp ground areas. We hiked the circle tail and the trail was marked quite well. We wanted to see the waterfall as well, but other hikers told us that it was too late in the season (September), and the waterfall was dried up. It is right outside of Santa Fe, but we still lost signal about 10 minutes before arrival. Also if your not a big camper they do have yerts you can reserve in advance and even the basic shelters are pretty nice compared to most places.
